CHAPTER 28: MAN VS. BATGOS (1)

"So, what crazy plan do you have for this thing?" Alara asked.

Studying the bat that was flying just 20 feet away, Lukas found that he didn’t have an immediate answer.

Because he had been asleep, Lukas never saw the beast’s initial attack. Still, he knew it was able to outmaneuver his soldiers.

Now that both the Spigon and 7 of his soldiers were gone, was there anything they could really do? None of the footsoldiers were going to be of use here, as they already had their own tasks.

It was just Alara and him facing against a giant bat of destruction.

"Well?" Alara prodded.

Shaking his head, Lukas admitted, "I don’t know."

Alara slapped her forehead with her sword hand before saying, "Fine. But figure it out before we die, please?"

Then she readied her stance, somehow replicating it perfectly even while floating in midair. She was so focused that she barely heard Lukas whisper, "Sorry."

"What?"

"Sorry," Lukas continued. "I’m sorry that I’m so useless."

Alara let out a sigh of heavy frustration at that comment. Then she muttered, "I thought I told you to stop talking like that."

"If you say some stupid shit like that again, I’m dropping you."

"What!" Lukas exclaimed, his eyes wide. "D-don’t do that!"

"Then I suggest you find a way to beat this thing." Alara said before letting Lukas go.

’Ah! Wha- what the fuck!!’

Lukas spread as arms as wide as he could as wind smacked against his face.

’She was serious? What the hell!’

Closing his eyes, Lukas called out for the Spigon. It had already bailed him out once.

’Come on...’ Lukas thought before realizing he had already stopped.

Opening his eyes, he saw that he was floating in midair once again. Scanning the sky, he quickly found Alara and couldn’t help but wonder if she was some kind of air nomad.

"Die, you piece of shit bat!" Alara screamed as she swung her sword viciously through the air.

’Nah, too murderous.’ Lukas decided.

Alara zipped through the air with unfathomable speed.

Her blade shown in the moonlight as it made its arc, threatening to decapitate the bat in one strike.

"Grahh!" Alara yelled.

Then, right before she would’ve struck the bat, she threw herself back instead.

Looking closer, Lukas realized that the bat had raised its wing. The movement was just too fast for him to notice. Yet somehow, Alara dodged at the last second.

’This is an entirely different league of fighters,’ Lukas realized.

Then he turned his attention inward and asked, ’Hey Nina, can you use that new perk thing on the bat?’

He already knew he couldn’t use it on Alara, as she was far too strong.

[Yes. Even if they are strong, it is still easy to compile the information of a beast.]

[Compiling the information obtained by [Divine Eyes]]

As the system went to work, Lukas couldn’t help but smile. It turned out that the purchase wasn’t actually a waste.

In the past 3 days he made his daily revenue exactly at midnight, giving him 360 gold.

A small part of him wanted to save up for his new weapon, but when he searched through the shop there was one perk he needed. The [Divine Eyes] perk.

Therefore, he had bought it during the second night of their journey for 40 gold.

[Analysis complete]

[1 Ghydean Marsh Bat detected.

Hp: 425,000/425,000]

[Perk must be upgraded if the host would like more information.]

[Potential upgrades:

Learning the beast’s weakness: 50,000,000 gold.

Full stat breakdown: 500,000,000 gold.]

Lukas’s eyes widened at the last text.

’Pretty expensive, no?’

[Meh. You have an infinite wealth system. Very soon, these numbers could be nothing but a decimal point to you.]

Lukas nodded his head, knowing that what the system said was true.

"Ahh!"

Lukas’s eyes jolted back to the fight after he heard Alara’s scream. Then his face grew completely white.

She was glaring at the bat in front of her as an entire waterfall of blood poured from her forehead.

Using the heightened vision his [Divine Eyes] gave him, Lukas could see that she was bleeding from a huge gash in her forehead. The bat struck first blood.

"Give me a potion now!" Lukas screamed aloud

[Gold deducted: 10]

[Minor Elixir of Life purchased]

The potion instantly appeared in his hand. However, he quickly realized that he had no way to get it to her.

She was currently at least 20 meters away, and he had no idea how to utilize this air magic of hers.

"Give me something that can help me move!"

[You can’t afford any aerobic devices right now]

"What the fuck?!" Lukas screamed in desperation as his eyesight grew red.

"You’re saying I can’t do anything!" Shaking his head, Lukas wondered if he could throw it to her.

No, she was too far. And maybe he could yell for her, but...

Swish!

The bat lunged at Alara. Because she was distracted by Lukas’s outburst, she barely managed to turn around in time to raise her sword.

Caring little for the parry, the bat shrieked as his arm was caught directly by the swords blade.

Still, its forward momentum wasn’t stopped and its claws sliced Alara’s right cheek, causing it to bleed profusely.

At the same time, Lukas suddenly fell through the air. Her magic bubble caught him almost instantly, but he knew it wouldn’t last for long.

She was weakened, and only getting weaker. More than that, she was wasting her magic keeping him afloat.

’Maybe...’

Lukas closed his eyes as he raised his voice.

"Drop me!! D-don’t worry about me dying, I have a plan!"

Internally, he waited for the sudden rush of wind hitting against his skin. He would have to time it perfectly, but if he drank the elixir just as he hit the sand...

She would be able to focus solely on the bat.

"Idiot!" Alara shouted as something hit him hard in the chest.

"Why does every one of your plans involve dying?!" The deep pain in her voice forced him to open his eyes.

He was shocked to find that her face was flushed, and even if she called him an idiot she didn’t hold any malicious anger in her eyes.

"I told you to find a way to kill the bat," she muttered. "That doesn’t mean you tell me to drop you thousands of feet for a plan."

She punched him again before grabbing the elixir, drinking it in one gulp, and turning around to face the bat.

It was zooming right for them, but Alara was prepared. Raising her sword, she let loose a savage yell before flying to the bat.

At the same time, Lukas thought of an idea to win.
