CHAPTER 272: CHAOS’ EXISTENCE

[You cannot merge more [Glacial Shard] cards, maximum limit reached. Upgrade the system to proceed.]

[You cannot merge more [Fireball] cards, maximum limit reached. Upgrade the system to proceed.]

Hal frowned at the notifications in front of him.

Spending a whopping ten thousand Chaos Points from his current savings of more than eighty thousand, thanks to the carnage he orchestrated at the savannah, he was finally able to get permanent copies of even the rarer cards like [Chrono Trap] and [Fireball (Soulfire)], getting them to past level 100.

As for the more common ones, they hit the limit after reaching level two hundred, which Hal naturally didn’t expect.

He thought he could merge cards indefinitely...

’Damn it...I have a lot of extra cards...What do I do with these?’

Hal couldn’t help but feel that he had wasted a huge amount of points that could’ve made a significant difference.

’Hmm? Or maybe level 200 is the limit for the level 2 system? He mused.

Perhaps that was the case.

2...200...it kind of makes sense when he thought about it.

And so, Hal decided to navigate his way to the upgrade window.

’F-Fifty thousand Chaos Points...’

He could upgrade it today, since he has the points to, but was it worth it?

Ultimately, the benefits of doing so are still far beneath the disadvantages.

It was better to allocate his points to upgrading his higher-tier cards for now...

With around seventy-seven thousand points remaining, Hal used the seven thousand extra to upgrade the draw chances twenty-eight times.

He then used ten thousand for [Uncommon]-tier draws, reserving twenty thousand points each for [Rare], [Unique], and finally, the highlight of the night: the [Epic]-tier draws.

Many times had [Winter’s Grasp] saved his life.

If he could have even a few limited-use [Epic]-tier spell cards, then he would be increasing his chances of surviving in what was apparently an ancient temple.

His card draw chances are more than decent now, and with the bonus from continuous draws, Hal was able to obtain 754 [Uncommon]-tier spell cards for only ten thousand points.

While his selections for the said tier were more limited compared to a tier lower, the fact that he was finally able to add attributes for the spells he often used, like [Piercing Light], delighted him.

He now had about seven [Uncommon]-tier spells that surpassed level 100, with the others trailing at a rather inconsistent range of levels.

The lowest among them, however, was at least higher than level 50.

Hal also decided to merge those who had limited charges.

After all, as long as he wouldn’t use their final charge, he could still merge them with a permanent durability copy in the future.

He then proceeded to draw [Rare]-tier spell cards.

Hal finished around ten minutes later.

While his spell cards of this tier varied in levels more than those in the previous tier, his most-used spells had at least leveled up to low-forties, though it’s quite the shame that [Gravity Ball] cards remained elusive, stuck at level 15.

Hal was beginning to like the spell lately, as it proved extremely effective in offense.

He just needed to set it up well.

Still, Hal was satisfied drawing 265 [Rare]-tier spell cards out of four hundred draws, leaving him eager to test how strong he currently was, considering he now had Advanced Aethersight as well.

Perhaps he was stronger than the Fell Hag now?

Then a realization dawned on him:

Cedar was undoubtedly an elite wizard, and now, Hal believed he was stronger than the former.

’Am I at the level of Master Wizards now?’ He mused, uncertain whether he was getting way too ahead of himself again or if his judgment was correct.

There was also a chance that he was still within the category of elites instead of masters...

It was useless to speculate, though, as only through real combat could he truly gauge himself.

So, Hal temporarily put the matter on the back of his mind and proceeded with the [Unique]-tier draws.

[Boohoo! No cards drawn!]

[Boohoo! No cards drawn!]

[Congratulations! You’ve drawn a [Rare]-tier card!]

[Boohoo!...]

...

He finished around five minutes later, checking the information on a few cards that he could immediately think of a use for, such as [Mana Fins]—a spell that would allow him to basically move like a fish in water.

Another limited-use, [Unique]-tier spell card that he obtained was [Luminous Wisp]—an indestructible spell that would illuminate a huge area for ten whole minutes.

Hal obtained a total of twelve cards in this draw, all of which leaned towards utility.

This was why he stopped after using only ten thousand points.

Instead, he would invest them in the [Epic]-tier draws.

Hal believed that emergency points are important.

However, he shouldn’t be in an emergency immediately after entering, and he would probably earn points inside the ancient temple.

And so, settling with noting his utility options for now, Hal proceeded with the "main event".

His heart raced at the thought of having a total of 100 [Epic]-tier draws.

Surely, he would at least obtain five cards...

[Boohoo! No cards drawn!]

[Boohoo! No cards drawn!]

His heart bled for the first time in a while as the seemingly mocking sighs of a jester assaulted his very soul more than ten times in a row, and it didn’t end there, ruthlessly continuing until the twenty-fifth draw.

Hal’s breathing was heavy and ragged. It was evident that he was trying hard not to blow up in utter fury.

After upgrading draw chances and drawing thousands of times to maximize the continuous draw bonus, he only got one [Epic]-tier spell card?!

Seething, he tapped on the card he obtained, trying his best to read its effects despite his turbulent heart.

And then his anger vanished:

Hal gulped, and his heart began to race wildly.

This was the first time he drew a Chaos-type spell.
