CHAPTER 191: TAKING ACCOUNTABILITY

"MISS CHU, it’s dangerous to be near a newly awakened Hunter."

Wonhee only snapped out of it when Taeil— one of Soobin’s best Hunters— approached her. She turned to him with the intention of asking why he and the others were there as if they had been there before her.

However, Taeil’s reaction was quite surprising.

"Why are you crying, Miss Chu?" Taeil asked, his face darkening with worry. "Did Lee Seodam harm you?"

[I’m crying?]

Wonhee touched her face, surprised to find her cheeks wet with tears.

But she was even more surprised when Taeil suddenly asked the three Hunters with him to apprehend Lee Seodam.

"Taeil Oppa, I’m fine..."

Kim Taeil was the captain of the elite team under Soobin’s direct supervision.

[They work for APA, but they’re not APA Hunters.]

Kim Taeil was also one of the select few who knew that she was Soobin’s younger sister way before it was revealed to the public.

[He took care of me before I got Ahyeonnie as a bodyguard.]

"You don’t look fine, Miss Chu," Taeil said firmly. He was smiling, but his eyes looked serious. "You’re pale and shaking."

Oh.

That may be true, but...

Wonhee glanced at Lee Seodam.

Two Hunters grabbed each of Lee Seodam’s arms. Fortunately, her ex-boyfriend didn’t resist. Lee Seodam actually was looking at Wonhee with a worried look on his face.

She avoided Lee Seodam’s gaze because she felt awkward.

"Let me escort you to the next room while we wait for Vice President Yeon, Miss Chu," Taeil said, calmly this time. "My men will take care of the rest."

"Oppa, Seodam-ssi didn’t do anything to me. So please, don’t treat him like a criminal," Wonhee said, avoiding Lee Seodam’s gaze. And then she focused on Lee Seojin who was weakly wiping the blood off his mouth with the back of his hand. "I’d like to stay here and talk to Lee Seojin. Can you give us some privacy?"

***

"WHERE’S Hee-ya?"

That was Soobin’s first question as soon as he saw Kim Taeil outside Lee Seojin’s room.

He didn’t use his teleportation skill because he didn’t want more people to find out about that ability of his.

[It’s always wise to keep a skill or two hidden.]

Kim Taeil and the other Hunters bowed towards Soobin politely as a greeting.

"Miss Chu asked us to leave the room because she wanted to talk to Lee Seojin-ssi in private," Kim Taeil said politely. "We did as we were told after we secured the room."

Soobin nodded, and then his gaze landed on Lee Seodam who was standing between two of his Hunters. He then turned to Kim Taeil. "What happened to that kid?"

"Miss Chu was pale and trembling when we found her, so we thought something happened."

"What?"

"But Miss Chu assured us that it has nothing to do with Hunter Lee Seodam," Kim Taeil explained. "Still, we’re keeping an eye on him."

"Well done, everyone."

"Thank you, Vice President."

[Since Hee-ya wants to talk to Lee Seojin alone, I should just wait for her instead of barging in. I’ll call Semi Noona first.]

After that...

Soobin gestured Taeil to follow him.

After bringing the younger Hunter to the empty room next door, he put a device that served as a soundproof barrier around the room.

"Taeil-ssi, did Lee Seojin awaken as a Hunter?"

Kim Taeil was one of the Hunters that Soobin cherished and nurtured.

[After all, he’s an Appraiser— Kim Taeil can check a newly awakened Hunter’s basic stats. And he’s more accurate at appraising than the device I invented for the same job.]

That was why Soobin snatched Kim Taeil from APA and made him his person.

"Lee Seojin woke up as a Hunter, indeed," Taeil said, and then he gulped down. "And the kid woke up an A-Class Hunter. But, for some reason, it feels like his stats are higher than his current level. I won’t be surprised if Lee Seojin becomes an S-Class soon."

"He’s more talented than Lee Seodam?"

"I believe so, Vice President. The kid’s talent is immeasurable," Taeil said while nodding. "That’s probably why Lee Seojin’s awakening is taking a heavy toll on his body. Hunters don’t usually get seizures after awakening."

Oho?

That was interesting.

Soobin touched his chin. "We need to recruit Lee Seojin then."

"Can we do that, Vice President?" Taeil asked worriedly. "Lee Seojin is Hunter Lee Seodam’s younger brother. Won’t he naturally follow his older brother’s footsteps and work for President Kwon Jiwoong?"

"Don’t worry about that," Soobin said, patting Taeil on the shoulder. "Lee Seojin likes Hee-ya more than his own brother, so he’ll definitely come to our side."

***

"ARE YOU alright, Jin-ah?" Wonhee, sitting on the chair next to the bed, asked worriedly. "Should I call a doctor? I have some high-grade potions with me. But I’m not sure if I can feed them to you since we still don’t know if your body can already consume them..."

"I’m alright, Noona," Seojin said weakly. "Thank you for worrying about me."

"I heard you kept looking for me every time you woke up."

"It’s because I have something to ask you, Noona."

"What is it?"

"Did I awaken as a Hunter for you, Noona?" Seojin asked carefully. "The System asked me to protect Noona with the power that it granted me."

Oh.

Wonhee could only sigh.

[The System is doing too much.]

***

[LEE SEOJIN awakened... and I can tell his more powerful than I did when I first awakened.]

Seodam wasn’t an Appraiser.

But he could instinctively tell that Lee Seojin was stronger than him now.

[How could that happen?]

Seodam washed his face with the cold water from the running faucet.

He was able to get away from Yeon Soobin’s men by telling him that he needed to use the bathroom.

Here he was now— washing his face.

"Are you sure you don’t know why your little brother woke up as a strong Hunter?"

Seodam raised his head, surprised to see that his reflection had changed.

A man who had the same face as him— only older— stared back at him with a haughty look on his face.

"You know who gave Lee Seojin that much power."

Seodam clenched his hands tight. "Chu Wonhee..."

"Who gave you the right to say my Wonhee’s name so casually, huh?"

Ah.

The image that Seodam in the mirror disappeared— now he was looking at his own reflection...

... and he also saw Hwang Frost standing behind him.

[When did he get here?]

"Is the Virus messing with your head?" Hwang Frost asked, suddenly grabbing the top of Seodam’s head with his hand. "Should I blow your brains out to kill the Virus?"

Seodam, who suddenly felt threatened and scared for his life, finally snapped.
