Chapter 211: THE MISSING HEIRESS
CHAPTER 211: THE MISSING HEIRESS
WONHEE enjoyed the reaction that she got from the Seons.
Chairman Seon Chu looked shocked after hearing that his daughter was still alive.
President Seon Chanwoo looked as shocked as the chairman, as if he didn’t want her sister to be alive after all this time.
[No wonder Bitna wants them dead.]
Only Seon Chang-ho, Wonhee’s brother-in-law and Bitna’s uncle, looked happy and relieved by the good news.
"Hee-ya, where did you hear that news?" Chang-ho asked, his face full of hope and anticipation. "Is our Chowon really alive?"
"Yes, Brother-in-law," Wonhee said while smiling and nodding. "Bitna— I mean, Seon Chowon is still alive. And she’s very healthy." She glanced at Chairman Seon and President Seon meaningfully. "So, you can’t declare her dead."
Chairman Seon, who seemed to have gotten over his shock already, scoffed at what Wonhee said. "Do you have evidence that my daughter is still alive? We’ve used all our family’s resources to find her for the last eight years. It’s long enough for us to legally declare my daughter dead."
Wonhee didn’t like what she heard.
But someone else reacted first.
"There’s no such thing as ’long enough’ for you to legally declare your daughter dead in today’s modern law, Chairman Seon," Hamin said bluntly. "The dungeon breaks caused countless people to go missing ever since the Outbreak. APA changed the law regarding presumption of death because the government doesn’t want our citizens to lose hope in finding their missing loved ones. Hence, if the person went missing because of a dungeon break, you cannot legally declare them dead unless you have solid evidence that they are really gone."
Chairman Seon frowned, but he couldn’t refute what Hamin said.
President Seon, on the other hand, still had something to say to Wonhee. "Miss Chu, do you have proof that Seon Chowon is still alive?"
"Yes," Wonhee said confidently. "I’ve personally met Seon Chowon."
"I’ve also talked to her recently," Hamin added. "She’s alive and still very cheeky."
President Seon scoffed. "Again, we need solid evidence. Anyone can say that they’ve met Seon Chowon."
That was a valid demand.
Wonhee wondered how much she could reveal, though.
[I’m not sure if either Bitna or the System wants to reveal to the Seon Family that Bitna is stuck in a dungeon.]
But her worries soon disappeared when her Status Window appeared before her.
[Legendary Friend is calling...
Answer or Reject]
Oh.
[Bitna changed her name again from ’Cabbage Kid’ to ’Legendary Friend.’]
"Seon Chowon is calling," Wonhee said, pressing the Answer button. "Here is the evidence that you’re looking for."
And, a moment later, Bitna’s cold voice echoed in the conference room.
["Chairman Seon Chul, if I find out you’ve touched the things that my mother had left for me, I’ll kill you."]
Oh.
Wonhee felt a shiver down her spine.
[Bitna called her father by his full name, and she’s speaking informally to him...]
She could feel Bitna’s anger.
["And you— Seon Chanwoo. How are you and our dumb maknae? Is Seon Chanyeol living well? You better. Ruining your lives is only fun if you’re living well."]
"Seon Chowon!" President Seon yelled angrily as he got up from his seat. It seemed like Bitna’s harsh words convinced him that the person talking was really his younger sister. "How dare you threaten your family like that?!"
["You were the ones who made me feel I was no longer a part of your family. I’m not Seon Chowon anymore— I am the karma that will bring you all down. If you legally declare me dead, I’ll kill THAT family, too."]
"Seon Chowon!" Chairman Seon yelled as he slammed his hands on the table as he got up from his seat. "You better take back what you said!"
["I WON’T— SO YOU BETTER MAKE SURE MY INHERITANCE AND MY MOTHER’S BELONGINGS ARE STILL THERE WHEN I RETURN!"]
Wonhee covered her ears with her hands when Bitna’s loud voice literally made the entire room shake.
Chairman Seon and President Seon actually fell on their butts.
The shaking only stopped when Bitna was done yelling.
Wow.
Her Legendary Friend was really powerful— the vibrations of Bitna’s loud voice alone caused the entire room to shake even though she wasn’t physically there.
[She’s really angry.]
Wonhee understood Bitna’s feelings, but she was worried that some innocent people in the building might get hurt accidentally.
[I need to calm her down.]
"Bitna-ya, my brother-in-law is also here," Wonhee said carefully. "You remember Chang-ho Oppa, don’t you?"
There was silence on the other line for a few moments before Bitna spoke again.
["Uncle Chang-ho, thank you for not giving up on me. If it weren’t for you, those bastards may have legally declared me dead a long time ago. You must have had a hard time dealing with them. I’ll make it up to you when I return."]
Oho?
Wonhee noticed that Bitna’s voice had softened up while talking to Chang-ho.
[She must have seen my brother-in-law as a father figure since her own father seems like a prick.]
"Don’t worry about it, Chowon-ah," Chang-ho said, his voice cracking when he got teary-eyed. "I’m really glad to know that you’re still alive, my precious niece. When can we see you again?"
["I’ll come home soon, Uncle. Please wait for me."]
"I’m waiting for you."
It wasn’t Chang-ho.
Both Wonhee and Chang-ho turned to the person who had just spoken.
"Hurry up and come back," Hamin added in a slightly soft voice. "I’m still waiting, cheeky brat."
["Catch me if you can, Hyung."]
And then the line got cut off.
Wonhee’s Status Window suddenly disappeared.
[Bitna is like a storm that disappears after making a huge mess...]
Well, as her friend, it was her job to clean up after Bitna’s mess.
"I believe that’s enough evidence that Seon Chowon is still alive," Wonhee said calmly while Chairman Seon and President Seon were standing up. "Chairman Seon, President Seon, I’ll have you know that Seon Chowon is a huge part of the project that I’m spearheading. Plus, even APA is supporting this little project of mine. So, think twice before ripping me off."
She immediately went back to business.
Of course, she was glad to know that she was somehow related to Bitna.
[I wonder if Bitna already knew that I’m her uncle’s sister-in-law. I wasn’t that involved in Semi Unnie’s family affairs when my adoptive parents were still alive. And my older siblings were hiding their connection with me back then. Still, I’ll about it later.]
"It seems like Chairman Seon and President Seon need more time to rethink your decision regarding the price you wanted to give me," Wonhee said, getting up from her seat. "Just call me when you have a better deal to offer, Chairman Seon and President Seon."
Chairman Seon and President Seon only nodded.
It seemed like the two were shaken by what happened earlier.
"Brother-in-law, I’m going ahead."
Chang-ho got up from his seat and nodded. "I’ll stay here since I have something to talk about to my brother and nephew. Are you with Ahyeon?"
Wonhee smiled and nodded. "Ahyeonnie is with me, so you don’t have to see me off, Brother-in-law."
Hamin then approached them. "Chu Wonhee, let’s leave together."
***
"DO YOU really not know that Bitna is your brother-in-law’s niece?"
"I only found out now," Wonhee said, nodding while talking to Hamin in the elevator. "I heard that my brother-in-law was looking for his missing niece before, but I was living with Soobin Oppa and Grandpa Suk-yong during that time, so I didn’t hear the details."
Only Wonhee, Hamin, and Ahyeon were in the elevator.
Hence, they could talk freely there.
[Anyway...]
"Hamin-ssi knows that my brother-in-law isn’t really accepted by the Seons, right?"
Hamin nodded slowly. "Even I know that your brother-in-law is the illegitimate son of the previous chairman of the SC Group."
Yes, it was an open secret.
[It became a scandal once, but people got over it quickly because of the Outbreak.]
"My brother-in-law wasn’t really treated like a part of the Seon Family when the previous chairman was still alive, so Semi Unnie barely interacted with the Seons even after getting married to my brother-in-law," Wonhee explained. "And, during that time, I was living with my adoptive parents."
"Ah, I see."
"That’s my reason," she said, turning to the Guildmaster. "How about you, Hamin-ssi? How come you didn’t know that Bitna is the missing heiress of the SC Group? Is it true that you’ve only met her once?"
Hamin nodded indifferently. "We’ve only met once, but we were stuck in a dungeon together for a few weeks."
Oh.
So, Bitna and Hamin got stuck in a dungeon together.
If it was eight years ago...
"Bitna was only seventeen back then?"
"Yeah," Hamin said, nodding. "And I was just a weak rookie Hunter that time."
Their conversation was halted when the elevator doors opened.
Hamin let Wonhee get off the elevator first, and then they walked together while Ahyeon trailed behind them silently.
And when they got to the lobby...
[Why is it so noisy here?]
Her answer was soon answered, though.
After all, it was hard to miss a person as tall as Yejun who towered over the people around him.
Moreover...
[Why does he look extra handsome and dashing today?]
Was it because Yejun was wearing a pair of chic sunglasses that matched his handsome really well?
[Aren’t those sunglasses from the luxury eyewear brand I endorse?]
"Wonhee-ya!"
Oh.
Wonhee was surprised when Yejun spotted her right away, and...
[Is he holding a bouquet of crochet flowers?!]
