CHAPTER 294: ANGEL OF DEATH

"AHHH!"

"NO! SAVE ME!"

"I CAN’T DIE LIKE THIS!"

Wonhee could hear it all.

She could hear the demoted Hunters frightened screams before falling to their deaths— unable to use their powers because their ranks, even the grades of their skills, were all downgraded to F-Class.

And F-Class Hunters were really no different from normal people.

CRAAASH.

SPLAAAT.

Wonhee was a high-ranking Awakened People, hence her hearing was sharp.

She heard brones breaking, and even some flesh splattering on the asphalt. There were even some who lost their limbs before falling to their death. After all, hundreds of weapons also fell along with the (now) F-rank Hunters.

It was heartbreaking, of course.

She wasn’t an angel— she had blood in her hands. After the second apocalypse started, she was forced to kill people who tried to kidnap her for her guiding abilities.

However, this was the first time she had killed this many Hunters at the same time.

"You’ve changed, Chu Wonhee."

"I really don’t want to hear that from someone like you, Seodam Oppa," Wonhee said, still taunting Lee Seodam by calling him "oppa." "Now I understand why you and your "friends" are so afraid of the world going back to normal. You can’t do anything once your powers are taken away from you."

"How could they do anything when you took their powers away from them while they were suspended in the air?" Lee Seodam asked angrily. "You did this on purpose— you purposely flew up here so that we’d follow you."

"Should I praise you for figuring that out on your own, Oppa?"

"Why didn’t you take my abilities away? You could have easily killed me if you did."

To be honest, Wonhee couldn’t take away Lee Seodam’s abilities the way she did to the other Hunters.

The System explained to her why.

["Chu Wonhee, the Anti-System Virus treasures Lee Seodam the way the Tower treasures you. Hence, the skill granted to you isn’t enough to take away Lee Seodam’s abilities since he’s being protected by the Virus. It would be a different thing if you summoned this skill before Lee Seodam and the Virus developed a deep bond. After all, the more the Virus and the System care for the two of you the more powerful you become. Unfortunately for us, Lee Seodam isn’t the only person the Virus cares about— so be prepared to fight his allies, too."]

In short, Wonhee couldn’t touch Lee Seodam’s abilities because of the Virus’ protection. And it wasn’t just her ex-boyfriend. She also couldn’t take back the abilities of Lee Seodam’s closest allies who were also close to the Virus.

But this bastard doesn’t need to know that.

"You have to live long enough, Seodam Oppa," Wonhee lied with a straight face. "You have to live long enough to see me return this world to normal."

Of course, that hit a nerve.

Because the world returning to normal is Lee Seodam’s worst fear.

Lee Seodam’s face turned red from anger, but his pupils shook as if he was scared. "I’m glad I didn’t bring everyone here," he said bitterly. "I’ll be back with them, Chu Wonhee— and the moment I return with them is the moment you die along with your foolish ideals."

Wonhee laughed sarcastically. "Of course, Oppa. You can bring your friends. After all, you can’t do anything right on your own."

Lee Seodam cursed under his breath before disappearing.

Unbeknownst to Wonhee, that moment earned her the title ’Angel of Death’ all over the world.

WHEN WONHEE landed on the ground, she tried her best not to look down at the Hunters who fell to their deaths.

And I was the one who killed them all.

The Hunters who didn’t have flight skills survived, but only for a moment.

Song Moonho, Graham, Yeon Soobin, and Jang Semi killed all the (now) F-Class Hunters who tried to run away after their ranks and skills were downgraded.

We have no choice but to kill them because of their heavy crimes.

"Hee-ya..."

Wonhee could tell that she broke her older siblings’ hearts. After all, the "baby sister" that they treasured all this time had turned into a cold-blooded mass murderer.

On the other hand, Song Moonho and Yeon Soobin looked curious about her new skill.

"Don’t ask questions, but I now have the ability to downgrade or take back the abilities of the Awakened People who want me dead," Wonhee explained vaguely. "Taking back the enemies’ abilities is harder since I need to spend more Mana when activating that skill. Since there are hundreds of Hunters who showed up here, I only used my skill that allows me to reduce their ranks and skills from their original grades to F-Class."

That explanation seemed to suffice because everyone nodded their heads thoughtfully.

Wonhee thought she managed it well.

Until her older brother spoke.

"So, what’s the catch?" Yeon Soobin asked, his voice shaking a bit as if he already knew that the price Wonhee had to pay for that skill was heavy. "What did the System ask in return before giving you that ability?"

Oppa is really quick-witted.

Wonhee could have lied, but she knew it wouldn’t work on her older siblings. "My remaining lifespan."

Jang Semi, who didn’t cry in front of other people when their parents died, broke down.

Even Yeon Soobin bawled his eyes out, blaming himself for being an "inadequate" older brother even it wasn’t true.

I’m sorry for breaking your hearts, Unnie and Oppa.

Song Moonho and Graham avoided their gazes as if they wanted to give their family some privacy.

That’s nice of them.

Wonhee had business with Song Moonho, but she couldn’t say anything because of her older siblings.

Ah, I have some business with Moonho-ssi, but I guess we can discuss it later.

BLERGH.

Wonhee suddenly coughed up blood, shocking Song Moonho whom she was having a meeting with.

The Hunter immediately handed a handkerchief for her.

"Do you need potion?"

"No potion can fix my heart at this point, Moonho-ssi," Wonhee said, smiling bitterly. "I’m now paying the price of receiving that power ability from the Tower."

In short, it was only a matter of time before her heart turned into a portal.

"Then tell me," Song Moonho said in a serious tone. "How can I help you?"

"Bring me to Hwang Frost," Wonhee said after wiping the blood off of her mouth. "I will free and awaken the strongest Hunter in the world."
