My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 145: Didn’t Miss Me?
CHAPTER 145: CHAPTER 145: DIDN’T MISS ME?
Perhaps it was the Danish language that made the foreign man feel very at ease. Shannon Quinn couldn’t understand what he was saying in response, but she could tell he was happy to chat with Landon Sutton for a bit.
Landon Sutton got to the point, nodding towards Shannon Quinn with his chin, and said to the man in Danish, "This lady is my girlfriend, and I’d like to switch seats with you, is that okay?"
The man nodded happily, stood up, took his backpack from the overhead bin, chatted briefly with Landon Sutton, and then followed the flight attendant to a seat in first class.
After the man left, Landon Sutton didn’t sit down right away. Instead, he looked at Lynn Kendall and said, "Is it convenient to switch?"
Lynn Kendall glanced at Shannon Quinn, seemingly calculating something in her mind, and shook her head apologetically with a smile, saying, "I don’t really want to, you can sit here."
Landon Sutton didn’t push further, he nodded with a smile and turned to find a flight attendant. He seemed to say something, and the flight attendant glanced over here with difficulty, nodded slightly, and then Landon Sutton returned to sit in a seat by the aisle.
Lynn Kendall curiously began to ask, "If I’m not mistaken, you’re Mr. Sutton, right?"
Landon Sutton nodded, but his gaze went straight past Lynn Kendall to Shannon Quinn.
Shannon Quinn seemed to want to pretend she didn’t know her, and at the mere touch of their gazes, she quickly turned to look out the window.
"I’ve heard a lot about you! But you just said...you’re Shannon’s boyfriend?"
Even though Shannon Quinn’s gaze wasn’t on them, her ears were perked up listening to their conversation.
Landon Sutton didn’t directly confirm, nor did he outright deny it, instead showing a wistful expression, smiled and said, "I’m just one-sidedly in love."
Lynn Kendall was even more incredulous, saying, "Such an outstanding man like Mr. Sutton can’t win a woman’s heart?"
Landon Sutton looked at Shannon Quinn and answered, "Isn’t she the one?"
Lynn Kendall also turned with a smile to Shannon Quinn, saying, "I didn’t expect Shannon to have such skills?"
As Shannon Quinn was at a loss about whether to explain, a flight attendant walked over with a sweet smile and said to Lynn Kendall, "Excuse me, Miss, we noticed an issue with the safety features in your seat. To ensure your safety during the flight, we would like to move you to an available seat in the rear, is that okay?"
Lynn Kendall turned to look at her seat and glanced at Landon Sutton, seemingly reluctant to leave, but considering her own safety, she reluctantly stood up, somewhat displeased, said to the flight attendant, "These things should have been checked earlier. What if something happens during the flight?"
"We apologize for the inconvenience."
With her bag in hand, Lynn Kendall said to Landon Sutton before leaving, "Mr. Sutton, if it’s convenient, let’s talk after the flight."
Landon Sutton just smiled and didn’t reply.
After Lynn Kendall left, Landon Sutton looked at the deliberately evasive Shannon Quinn and said, "Hasn’t it been that long since we last met that you don’t recognize me anymore?"
Shannon Quinn shot him a sideways glance, only to see him slide directly into Lynn Kendall’s previous seat.
"...Didn’t they say there was a problem with this seat?"
Landon Sutton looked at Shannon Quinn, fastening his seatbelt as he said, "Is Miss Quinn worried about me, or is she unwilling to sit next to me?"
Shannon Quinn replied unceremoniously, "I don’t want to sit next to you."
She subconsciously placed her hand on her stomach, but fortunately, her clothes were loose, and her belly wasn’t showing much yet. Hopefully, he wouldn’t notice anything, but with the news being so widespread, he probably already knew.
Landon Sutton chuckled, shamelessly saying, "I want to sit next to you."
"Don’t joke, they’ve already said this seat is unsafe. Move back."
"If I hadn’t said that, how could we enjoy some alone time?"
Shannon Quinn rolled her eyes at him, sarcastically saying, "You must know my current situation. If you really cause the Rhodes Family to kick me out, I’ll cling to you and never let go."
"That’s just what I want," Landon Sutton said, sitting up straight, about to speak, when Aidan Lockwood came over, glanced at Landon Sutton, and looked at Shannon Quinn, asking, "What happened? Why did Lynn go to the back?"
Before Shannon Quinn could explain, Landon Sutton spoke up first, "Mr. Lockwood, long time no see."
Aidan Lockwood smiled and nodded, "Mr. Sutton, are you also going to Vorland?"
"Yes, on a business trip. I happened to run into Shannon," Landon Sutton said, then turned to glance at Shannon Quinn, and said to Aidan Lockwood, "The plane is about to take off. Mr. Lockwood, you should return to your seat. Shannon is in good hands with me here, don’t worry."
Aidan Lockwood glanced uneasily at Shannon Quinn, but considering the number of people on the plane, Landon Sutton wouldn’t do anything to her, "Then I’ll leave it to you, Mr. Sutton."
"It’s everyone’s responsibility to take care of a pregnant woman."
With that statement, Landon Sutton sent a chill down Shannon Quinn’s spine, making her entire body stiffen.
The plane taxied and took off, and Shannon Quinn sneaked a glance at him, quietly pulling the small blanket up over herself.
"Are you really pregnant?" Landon Sutton suddenly asked.
Shannon Quinn figured he already had an answer in his heart. Lying at this point would only raise his suspicion, but she didn’t directly acknowledge it either, instead responding impatiently, "What’s it to you?"
He merely replied calmly, "That may not be the case."
Shannon Quinn felt a pang of guilt upon hearing him continue, "What if the child is mine?"
"What nonsense are you spouting?!" Shannon Quinn lowered her voice, glaring at him fiercely, "I told you I took medicine after that night!"
"So, did you sneak around with other men behind my back?"
"So what if I did?" Shannon Quinn retorted, realizing she had said something wrong, she quickly corrected, "Whether I did or not is none of your business, you’re just the tip of the iceberg of my many men, don’t think too highly of yourself."
"Would you dare say that to your husband?"
"None of your business! I’m going to sleep, don’t talk to me, don’t disturb me!"
Shannon Quinn was already quite annoyed, and seeing Landon Sutton only made her more angry.
Almost every conversation with him left her fuming.
Landon Sutton chuckled, watching her turn her head toward the window, throwing a little fit.
Looking at her with her eyes closed and her slightly puffed-up expression, he found her quite cute.
His gaze drifted down to her belly, not showing any signs of pregnancy. Just by looking at her face, she seemed to have lost some weight compared to before the pregnancy.
Thinking about the things she had endured during this time, the smile on his face dimmed, a hint of heartache and remorse filling his eyes.
He didn’t bother her anymore; having gotten up early, and facing a ten-plus hour flight, she needed a good rest.
He needed a good rest too.
Since receiving the news of her incident, he hadn’t been able to sleep soundly. The bumpy journey back had been tiring, and now that she was right next to him, he felt a sense of relief and finally closed his eyes.
When the airplane meal was finally served around noon, Landon Sutton lowered her tray table and set everything up before waking her to eat.
He was so considerate that he even opened the utensil package for her.
Shannon Quinn noticed this detail but didn’t say any words of thanks, just quietly ate her food.
"Is it enough? Should I share some with you? After all, you have the appetite of two now," he said jokingly.
Shannon rolled her eyes silently and didn’t verbally respond, but used her hand to block her meal box, silently refusing.
He thought someone as particular as Landon Sutton wouldn’t eat airplane food, but he didn’t seem to mind at all.
What she found even more perplexing was that this man could eat a meal box with such a dignified air, making Shannon feel unworthy of eating such common food.
"What are you doing in Vorland? Business?" he asked while eating.
Shannon came back to her senses and grunted a sullen "hm", without saying more.
Seeing Shannon reach for the bottled water, Landon Sutton calmly took it from her just before she grasped it, naturally unscrewed the cap, and handed it back to her.
This earned him another eye roll from her, and he nonchalantly said in a low voice, "It’s been a while since we last met, don’t you miss me?"
"I wish you’d never appear again!"
"You’re so heartless, at least we had one night together, can’t you be a bit more courteous?"
Shannon sneered, "Some people take an inch and want a mile!"
"If I wanted a mile, do you think I would need your permission?"
It wasn’t Shannon’s first time experiencing his unreasonable behavior, so she simply cleaned up the leftovers and ignored Landon Sutton.
In the afternoon, he asked a flight attendant for a newspaper to read, which made things much quieter. Shannon got up to use the restroom, came back, and fell asleep again.
She had a dream about Vincent Rhodes. His face was blurred in the dream, and when she woke up, she couldn’t remember anything, as if she also dreamed about a child.
She looked down at her belly, tugged the blanket, and turned to glance at the sleeping Landon Sutton beside her.
He was asleep, still sitting upright, arms crossed, head tilted towards her, his brows slightly furrowed, as if he wasn’t sleeping well at all.
At this moment, Shannon had a peculiar feeling. The biological father of the child was sitting right next to her, yet she dared not admit that the child was his, and she didn’t know if she would ultimately have this child...
After more than ten hours of flight, when they got off the plane, Landon Sutton followed Shannon neither too closely nor distantly.
Shannon deliberately quickened her pace and took out her phone to send a message to Vincent Rhodes, asking where he was.
When the message was sent, Landon Sutton’s phone in his pocket beeped.
Shannon didn’t notice anything. After being out of contact with the outside world for over ten hours, it wasn’t surprising that someone as busy as him would receive messages as soon as he got off the plane. Shannon didn’t pay any attention, just looked at her phone for a while, and seeing no response, put it back in her bag and went with her colleagues to claim their luggage.
They arrived at the hotel around four or five in the afternoon Vorland time.
There was no schedule today, so everyone went to their rooms to rest and adjust to the time difference.
Sitting at the edge of the bed, Shannon looked at her phone, the message she had sent hadn’t received a reply, and she had no idea where Vincent Rhodes was now.
Perhaps he was on a flight to Vorland.
"Knock, knock—" The sound of knocking on the door was followed by Aidan Lockwood’s voice, "Shannon? Are you ready? We’re about to go out to eat."
Shannon immediately responded, "Okay, coming."
"We’ll wait for you in the lobby downstairs."
"Okay."
Shannon only knew that Landon Sutton was also staying at their hotel, but she hadn’t expected him to shamelessly join them for dinner as well.
On the way, he acted as if he was well-acquainted, chatting with Aidan about business cooperation. Aidan, being a naturally good-natured person, almost never put on a bad face for anyone and remained polite to Landon Sutton.
Except for Shannon, the other colleagues were pleased with Landon Sutton’s company, especially Lynn Kendall.
Normally good at socializing, Lynn found topics to chat with Landon by.
Throughout the journey and during dinner, Shannon sat quietly in the corner, speaking very little. Not only did she want to avoid further involvement with Landon Sutton, but her mind was on her phone, waiting for messages from Vincent Rhodes.
"President Sutton, let me toast you," Lynn Kendall said, raising her glass to Landon Sutton.
Landon Sutton merely waved his hand, saying, "I quit."
"President Sutton, quitting drinking? People say men only quit smoking or drinking because of women. Could it be..." Lynn said, her gaze shifting between Landon Sutton and Shannon, her implication obvious.
Recently, Shannon’s scandal had been the talk of the town, and her unclear situation with Landon Sutton was difficult to explain.
Landon Sutton didn’t say anything directly, just smiled and raised his glass of tea to her as a toast.
Lynn cheerfully downed her drink, then said, "President Sutton is really the epitome of a good man."
Landon Sutton didn’t really respond to Lynn’s comments, keeping a steady smile while glancing at Shannon occasionally.
Seeing her anxiously checking her phone, he knew what she was waiting for.
Seemingly curious about her reaction, he took out his phone, typed a message, and sent it: "Arrived."
"Ding-dong—" A soft sound signaled the message’s arrival, and Shannon’s eyes lit up as if electrified, quickly grabbing her phone. Her lips curled into a small smile as she saw the reply, and she stealthily sent the hotel address back.
Landon Sutton, having put his phone on silent, secretly read her reply. Looking at her visibly more relaxed expression, he noted how easily a single message from him could make her so happy and content.
After dinner, a few colleagues expressed a desire to explore the area, but Shannon used fatigue as an excuse to eagerly return to the hotel.
Aidan Lockwood, with many affairs to attend to, naturally didn’t join the outing and opted to accompany Shannon back.
Landon Sutton, without hitching a ride, left alone after the meal, likely preoccupied with his own matters.
Back at the hotel, Shannon dared not shower, waiting for Vincent Rhodes while sitting on the sofa.
Nearly asleep with the television on for company, she finally heard footsteps approaching her.
