My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 167: She Broke Up with Ryder Griffin
CHAPTER 167: CHAPTER 167: SHE BROKE UP WITH RYDER GRIFFIN
Sheila Yardley swallowed and nervously asked, "...What do you mean?"
Caleb Grant straightened up, putting some distance between them. He looked at her with a somewhat blurry gaze, and after a moment of silence, he said, "If you don’t understand, I’ll teach you. Take off your clothes."
Although Sheila Yardley had considered this possibility beforehand, she naively thought Caleb Grant wasn’t that kind of person.
Unexpectedly, he truly turned out to be a hypocrite who hides behind a facade.
"I have a boyfriend, even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t degrade myself like this."
As Sheila Yardley turned around, her hand had not yet touched the doorknob when Caleb Grant casually reminded her, "Is your dignity more important or your mother’s life? You decide for yourself. I won’t stop you if you want to leave, and I can give you time to go back and think it over. Once you make up your mind, you can come back to me anytime."
Sheila Yardley hesitated for two seconds before opening the door and quickly leaving without looking back. She only stopped when she reached the side of the main road, squatting down and bursting into tears.
Everything was piling up, suffocating her.
She hadn’t told Ryder Griffin about her mother’s deteriorating condition, or rather, never had the opportunity to tell him.
He verbally said he forgave her and wasn’t angry anymore, but his attitude towards her had become unpredictable.
He used to be proactive in asking about her mother’s condition, but now he seldom mentioned it. To be precise, the time he spent with her had significantly decreased.
She worried if he didn’t love her as much anymore or if he was waiting for her to bring up breaking up.
Sheila Yardley dared not think further about it, and she hadn’t had the mental energy to dwell on these matters lately.
She didn’t know if Caleb Grant’s conditions could genuinely secure the right kidney or if he was deceiving her for his own amusement. She didn’t want to have any more involvement with him.
There must be another way to find a suitable kidney source.
Sheila Yardley comforted herself and prayed.
However, the miracle did not happen, and Catherine Yardley’s condition worsened day by day.
After barely getting through another week, the doctors issued a critical illness notice.
Sheila Yardley couldn’t think of any other way and found Shannon Quinn, hoping she might have a way to obtain a suitable kidney.
Shannon Quinn, however, didn’t have the capability. Though she was affiliated with the Rhodes Family, it was in name only.
The only hope perhaps lay in her own kidney, but her circumstances were special, and her due date was approaching. Even if the match were successful, she wouldn’t be able to undergo a transplant in the short term.
In early spring, the sky was overcast with light rain. Shannon Quinn was counting the days, her due date was imminent, and she was packing her things, preparing to stay at the hospital.
Giving birth was something every woman would experience; it seemed like such an ordinary thing, yet it was no small matter, especially for a woman who hadn’t given birth before, the nervousness and fears were unavoidable.
She had envied those women who were meticulously cared for by their husbands during pregnancy; she herself had once hoped for that too.
Now she held no hope for love, nor did she expect the man occupying her husband’s position to appear when she needed care.
She was worried that when her water broke, she wouldn’t be able to cope alone at home, so she went to the hospital early for peace of mind.
Catherine Yardley’s ward was two floors away from hers; after finishing her check-up, Shannon Quinn went to the ward downstairs but didn’t find Catherine Yardley, nor were Sheila Yardley and Julian Yardley there.
She casually grabbed a passing nurse to inquire, "Where is the patient in this room?"
The nurse glanced at the room Shannon Quinn pointed at and said, "Are you Ms. Yardley’s family? You should know her condition is not optimistic. I heard she was sent for emergency treatment when I came on duty this morning. I don’t know the specifics; you’ll need to ask her attending physician."
"...Thank you."
Shannon Quinn stood in a daze at the ward entrance, even the hurried footsteps behind her did not pull her thoughts back.
"What are you doing here? Where’s Sheila Yardley?" Julian Yardley, coming from somewhere, asked anxiously.
Shannon Quinn shook her head numbly. Julian Yardley said, "She didn’t come to see you these last couple of days?"
"No, what’s wrong? What happened?"
Julian Yardley sighed, "She broke up with Ryder Griffin."
Shannon Quinn fell silent, lowering her eyes. She didn’t seem surprised at the news, only a little regretful.
"Ryder Griffin slept with Lynn Kendall. This morning I accompanied her to see Ryder Griffin. We originally meant to ask for his help, but we bumped into them."
"Where is she?"
"She said she wanted to talk to Ryder Griffin alone. While I waited downstairs, I got a call from the hospital and came over first."
"Does she know about the situation at the hospital?"
"She knows; she was just here at the hospital. I went downstairs to complete some formalities and when I came back up, I didn’t see her."
"How is she emotionally?"
Julian Yardley was silent for a moment and then said, "She seemed calm, but the calmer she is, the more abnormal it is. My mother’s situation and the situation with Ryder Griffin, I’m afraid she might do something reckless."
"She shouldn’t; Elaine isn’t the kind of person to be that fragile. Besides, with your mother’s condition so unstable, she wouldn’t do anything foolish now. You go out and look for her, think about the places she usually goes. I’ll watch over things at the hospital. If anything happens, I’ll call you."
Julian Yardley hesitated for a moment; it seemed he had no other choice. Both women were the most important people to him, and he didn’t want either of them to have an accident.
Leaving the hospital, Julian Yardley rode his motorcycle to Sheila Yardley’s school and several places where she had worked before, asking her friends. He searched almost all the places and asked all the people he could, but there wasn’t a trace of Sheila Yardley.
Stopping his motorcycle by the roadside, feeling frustrated and upset, he drove to Ryder Griffin’s workplace...
Sheila Yardley didn’t expect to return to this place again. Standing outside the villa gate, her expression remained calm yet couldn’t hide the mist in her eyes. Her eyes, red from crying, showed she had just been crying, yet she tried hard to suppress her emotions.
She had already noticed signs of Ryder Griffin’s infidelity earlier, but it was as if not piercing through this layer of the window paper kept her deceived in the dark.
What she didn’t anticipate and refused to accept was Ryder Griffin’s affair was with Lynn Kendall.
She remembered Lynn Kendall mentioned wanting revenge on her, but didn’t expect it would be through such a method.
Lynn Kendall was indeed ruthless and had completely won, taking away what was most important in her heart.
Thinking of these things, tears flowed again. She took a deep breath, watching the black car approaching in the distance. She hurriedly wiped her tears, instinctively stepping back a bit, watching the car slowly stop in front of her, and Caleb Grant getting out.
He looked somewhat fatigued yet maintained his unapproachable demeanor as he walked towards Sheila Yardley, slightly tilting his head to regard her, "Have you thought it through?"
