My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 18: A Narrow Encounter with an Old Foe
CHAPTER 18: CHAPTER 18: A NARROW ENCOUNTER WITH AN OLD FOE
Landon Sutton frowned, feeling slightly uncomfortable inside.
He sent flowers to the shop just to show that man, but he didn’t expect to anger Shannon Quinn.
But the fact that she got so upset, could it be she was afraid the man would misunderstand?
"Alright, I’ll listen to you."
After he said this, he hung up the phone. Shannon Quinn hadn’t reacted for a moment, took a deep breath to calm her emotions. She really felt like she was being driven mad by him these past two days.
"Knock knock," Aidan Lockwood made a gesture by knocking on the door, then walked straight in, handed her a freshly brewed cup of hot tea, and asked, "Are you okay?"
Shannon Quinn pulled up the corners of her mouth, smiled, and shook her head: "Nothing’s wrong."
"Is this how you treat all your admirers?" Aidan Lockwood seemed to be joking as he asked.
"Just a bit annoyed."
"Have you ever considered finding yourself a partner? Landon Sutton has pretty good conditions."
Shannon Quinn casually said, "I’m not worthy of him, let’s not talk about this, I still need to hurry and complete that Westerland design draft."
"Hmm, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Only when your mind is calm will good inspiration come. If it’s really tough, I can give you two days off, taking a walk might be good."
"No need, I’m fine."
Shannon Quinn felt that even during the time she had just gotten married, she hadn’t been this emotionally turbulent. She rarely treated others with that kind of attitude; Landon Sutton seemed to be the first.
Once she’d calmed down a bit and thought back, was her tone just now a bit too much? However, as long as it could make Landon Sutton stop pestering her, then too much was too much.
After that call, Landon Sutton didn’t appear again, and everything seemed to have returned to peace.
Until three days later, at a fashion show, he appeared on site as the investor, and Shannon Quinn was there as the designer.
They met backstage; he really did as she asked, pretended not to know her, neither greeted each other.
Shannon Quinn then realized that when he’s not proactive, he seems like a high god, meant to be admired by all, as if no one could approach him.
It’s as if the man who was clinging to her those days wasn’t him.
The designer arranged to walk the runway with their model, Shannon Quinn was considered experienced.
For this reason, Aidan Lockwood specifically hired someone to train her for a few days.
"Master Nate, have you taken a liking to any of the girls? I can go help negotiate for you."
Landon Sutton’s gaze rested solely on Shannon Quinn who was on the stage. Clearly, she was not the main character, yet his gaze couldn’t move away from her.
Though she wasn’t tall, only about 160 cm, standing next to supermodels made her look even shorter. Fortunately, her body proportions were quite good, just wearing a white shirt and light jeans with high heels, her slender, straight legs looked very long.
He couldn’t help but recall the scene from that night...
"That designer looks quite nice; she’s my type. I’ll go ask her after it’s over," Ronan Rhodes said, supporting his chin, staring at Shannon Quinn with wandering thoughts.
"Try paying attention to her."
Hearing Landon Sutton’s words, Ronan Rhodes thought he misheard, then asked in surprise, "Master Nate, you interested in that girl?! If you fancy her, just speak out. Leave the rest to me. If I can’t deliver her to your bed, it’s my loss!"
Landon Sutton shot Ronan Rhodes a glare, and he instantly shut his mouth sheepishly, but couldn’t help taking another glance at Shannon Quinn.
Thinking that he’d never seen any woman before at Landon Sutton’s side, it felt like women didn’t exist in Landon Sutton’s world.
Suddenly protecting her like a calf, what exactly is this woman’s background?
Could it be she’d managed to seduce him after being back for just two days?
Shannon Quinn followed the model to walk around the runway once, and Landon Sutton sat at the very front row. Although the lights below the stage were adjusted pretty dimly, Shannon Quinn still noticed Landon Sutton’s presence.
Moreover, when she saw him, it seemed like his gaze was fixed on her. She only glanced hurriedly, without taking a closer look.
While turning around to walk back, it seemed like a psychological effect, she kept feeling a cold gaze was staring at her.
Once she walked stiffly to the backstage, Shannon Quinn let out a sigh of relief.
The backstage lounge area was much quieter; she took out her phone to check the time, replied to two WeChat messages.
Picked up a bottle of mineral water, checked it over, and after confirming it was new, opened it and took a sip.
The fashion show still had some time before ending, couldn’t leave anytime soon.
"Shannon, what are you hiding here for? The boss is looking for you everywhere."
Shannon Quinn looked up at Yara Hughes, collecting her wandering thoughts, "What’s the matter?"
"Just noticed you were missing, so asked around," Yara Hughes looked at her meaningfully, moved closer to say, "Are you hiding from Landon Sutton?"
Shannon Quinn, guilty, avoided her gaze: "Why would I hide from him?"
"I’m telling you, Shannon, don’t be unaware of your blessing; it’s Landon Sutton! He’s actively pursuing you! Can’t believe you’re not reciprocating. You really don’t secretly like our boss, do you?"
Shannon Quinn rolled her eyes and reached out to cover Yara Hughes’s mouth, "Stop spouting nonsense!"
Yara Hughes giggled, pried her hand away, continued analyzing, "Otherwise it doesn’t make sense. If there’s no one in your heart, you definitely wouldn’t be so ruthless in rejecting Landon Sutton. But if it’s really the boss, it’s not bad either; compared to Landon Sutton, the boss is better, after all, you’ve known each other for so many years, saying..."
"Shut up!" Shannon Quinn feared others gossiping about her and Aidan Lockwood; in this working environment with constant proximity, even jokes felt awkward, especially since neither she nor Nathan Lockwood had any such intentions.
"There’s someone in my heart, but it’s not the boss. Don’t speak of this again!" Shannon Quinn went along and blocked Yara Hughes’s mouth, preventing her from spreading more rumors.
Yara Hughes was stunned for a moment, then gossipy pursued further, "Who is it? How come you never mentioned him? Which guy? Is he better than the boss and Landon Sutton? Are you guys together? Why haven’t I seen him? Could it be you’re just having a crush?"
Hearing Yara Hughes’s string of questions, Shannon Quinn felt her head was about to explode, stood up, and said, "I’m going to the bathroom."
"Shannon, you haven’t answered me yet! Come on, tell me!"
Shannon Quinn, in high heels, quickly walked toward the restroom’s direction, while Yara Hughes just stood at the door, watched her fleeing back, muttering a couple of sentences.
Standing by the sinks between the men’s and women’s bathrooms, Shannon Quinn finally felt her ears quiet down.
She didn’t go to the restroom, washed her hands instead, then took out lipstick from her bag, touched up her makeup in front of the mirror.
Halfway through applying, footsteps sounded from the men’s bathroom beside her, Shannon Quinn caught a glimpse from the corner of her eye, initially not paying attention.
When the man walked out and stood beside her, Shannon Quinn saw his appearance clearly in the mirror, instantly widening her eyes, the lipstick motion was frozen.
What they call enemies cross paths...
