My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 180: New Boyfriend?
CHAPTER 180: CHAPTER 180: NEW BOYFRIEND?
"I feel like the Rhodes Family has been too lenient with the Yardley Family. If it weren’t for the two Yardley sisters, you probably wouldn’t have ended up divorced."
Shannon Quinn smiled, lowered her head, and continued sorting the clothes in her hands. She said, "The reason Vincent and I ended up like this isn’t entirely external. There are also issues between the two of us. Now, I don’t want to dwell on it anymore."
"So, you and Vincent Rhodes really haven’t been in touch anymore?"
Shannon Quinn paused her action of organizing clothes, and couldn’t help but recall that recent meeting.
As she fell silent, Erin Bishop continued to ask, "And you haven’t seen the child at all?"
Only then did Shannon Quinn lift her head, looking at Erin Bishop, she asked, "Is what I’m doing too much?"
"Sigh, a little. But since you’re divorced, you might as well cut everything clean. While the child is still young, you should find someone to marry quickly. That way, the child won’t suspect anything later."
"But I need to meet the right person. Look at me now, I don’t even have time to go out; how can I have time to consider such things?"
Two women who hadn’t seen each other for a long time always had endless topics to discuss. Having a friend to confide in is always a good thing.
In Caleb Grant’s villa, Sheila Yardley sat alone in the living room, staring blankly at the soap opera playing on the TV in front of her, appearing somewhat absent-minded.
"Click—" With the crisp sound of a lock opening, the string in her mind suddenly tightened, and she looked toward the door.
Caleb Grant had a slight hint of intoxication but wasn’t drunk.
He glanced up at the clock on the wall, feeling a bit surprised at the living room being lit at this hour. Without even changing his shoes, he walked directly into the living room and asked Sheila Yardley, who was sitting on the sofa, "Not asleep yet?"
"No..." Sheila Yardley pursed her lips, appearing as if she had something to say but stopped herself.
Seeing him sit down on the sofa, she silently lifted the thin blanket off herself, put on her slippers, got up and went to the shoe cabinet to fetch his slippers, and placed them by his feet.
Clearly, it wasn’t the first time she had done this, otherwise Caleb Grant wouldn’t have accepted her service so nonchalantly and lazily removed his shoes. Sheila Yardley bent down, picked them up, and neatly placed them in the shoe cabinet.
"What’s the matter? Do you have something to say?" Caleb Grant saw through her thoughts, loosened his tie with one hand, and leaned back on the sofa to ask her.
Sheila Yardley nodded and whispered, "I want to take two days off."
"Something up?"
"A business trip for the company."
The scenario resembled a daughter seeking her dad’s permission to hang out with friends. Caleb Grant was silent for two seconds before saying, "Go ahead."
Sheila Yardley seemed surprised by his easy consent. Or rather, she had already prepared herself for a no, but given this regained opportunity, she wanted to do her best not to let Professor Lockwood down.
"Thank you!"
Caleb Grant raised an eyebrow slightly. He hadn’t expected such a small matter would make her feel so grateful and happy; she was too easily satisfied.
"What day are you leaving? Which city?"
"Southedge, the flight is at six tomorrow morning."
Caleb Grant nodded, "Okay, it’s late. Go rest."
"Alright... you should sleep early too." Sheila Yardley looked at him, waiting a couple of seconds before turning back to her room when he said nothing more.
Even though she went to bed, Sheila Yardley couldn’t really sleep and got up at four, washed up, changed clothes, and then heard noises from outside the room.
At first, she thought she misheard, crouched by the door with her ear against it, then confirmed it was real.
Why was he up so early too?
After hesitating for a long time, she pushed open the door, finding no one in the living room. However, the kitchen light was on, and she could faintly hear the sound of utensils clashing.
Standing at the kitchen door, she saw Caleb Grant with his sleeves rolled up, skillfully chopping something on the cutting board.
This was the first time Sheila Yardley had seen him cooking; more accurately, she never knew he could cook at all.
She thought he was the kind of young master who had been pampered since childhood, who would not lift a finger for anything, but unexpectedly, he was so adept at this.
He placed the chopped vegetables into a plate next to him. Possibly hearing footsteps, he turned around and saw Sheila Yardley standing at the kitchen door, "Awake?"
"Mm." Sheila Yardley entered the kitchen, thinking as a paid housekeeper she shouldn’t let her employer do such chores, and said, "What do you want to make? Let me do it."
But Caleb Grant had no intention of handing over the work and simply asked, "Are your things packed?"
"Almost."
"Mm, breakfast is almost ready too. Take your luggage out; I’ll take you to the airport in a moment."
Sheila Yardley was somewhat surprised. Did he get up this early just to take her to the airport? Was breakfast made for her?
She could hardly believe it, yet Caleb Grant did indeed do so.
Breakfast was milk and sandwiches, but somehow, the same ingredients tasted better when he made them.
When they left, he also offered to carry her luggage. To an outsider, it might have looked like they were a couple.
This also reminded her of Ryder Griffin. He used to take care of her meticulously, thinking through everything, even the tiniest details.
But now, everything was different.
She had no expectations for love anymore.
Even if Caleb Grant in front of her was charming enough to attract any girl, she would no longer naively and ignorantly fantasize.
She was fully aware that they were just in a contractual relationship and once the debt was repaid, they would go back to being two people from completely separate worlds.
He escorted her all the way to the security checkpoint, and they happened to run into Aidan Lockwood and another male assistant who had just finished checking in their luggage.
Caleb Grant didn’t greet them; he just reminded Sheila Yardley to text him after she landed and then left the airport.
"New boyfriend?" Aidan Lockwood naturally stepped aside, letting Sheila Yardley stand in front of him, and asked.
Sheila Yardley’s face instantly turned red, she hastily waved her hands to clarify, "No... just a friend."
The male assistant added, not feeling too invested in the situation, "Doesn’t seem like just a friend."
Aidan Lockwood smiled without saying a word, and Sheila Yardley pretended not to hear, standing in front with flushed cheeks, not daring to look back.
Very few people knew about her acquaintance with Caleb Grant and as for the employment relationship, she hadn’t told anyone yet.
When Julian Yardley noticed she was rarely staying at the school dormitory, she simply said she had moved to the company’s dorm, glossing over the truth.
Caleb Grant had come to the school to see her a few times, but since he wasn’t flamboyant, and the car he drove to school wasn’t an eye-catching luxury model, perhaps he didn’t want too many people to know about their connection.
