My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 183: Give Me My Money Back
CHAPTER 183: CHAPTER 183: GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK
After a whole day of busyness without a proper meal, Shannon Quinn did feel a bit dizzy, so she went along with Liam Sterling’s words, saying, "A little, I’ll go find something to eat, maybe a little hypoglycemic."
"Alright, do you want me to go with you?"
"No need, I’ll be back soon."
Shannon politely declined, but Liam still stood up to follow, saying, "I’ll take you to the restaurant on the second floor. I’ll smoke a cigarette."
"Old smoker."
"I smoke much less now than before, you’re really wronging me here."
Liam led Shannon to the restaurant on the second floor, instructed the kitchen to make two dishes, and also did not linger, he went to the restroom and then returned to the scene.
After Liam sat down, Aidan Lockwood asked him, "What’s up with Shannon?"
"Hungry, went to grab a bite."
Aidan laughed and said, "You two are getting along so well?"
"Absolutely."
"To what extent?"
Liam was taken aback, glanced at Aidan with a smile, "What are you thinking of?"
"You have no thoughts about her?"
Liam suddenly felt a little embarrassed, silly-grinned, answering, "I do have thoughts, but..." Liam paused, looking at Aidan hesitantly, "She still talks about being your person, you two have been partners for so many years, do you have feelings for her? If she’s your person, as a brother, I wouldn’t dare to make a move."
Aidan laughed, saying, "You can’t win her over."
"Why do you say that?"
"Try if you don’t believe."
"That may not be the case, if I do win her over, you better not regret it."
Aidan just smiled confidently, making Liam feel rather unconvinced.
Before long, Shannon Quinn returned to the scene and sat back in her original position.
Liam turned to glance at her, said nothing.
Just that more or less, he understood Aidan’s reason for being so certain.
He found himself unable to even bring up the topic of dating with Shannon, clearly, he had quite good conditions himself, yet he could not speak up.
Because, truly, Shannon Quinn had no romantic feelings for him, at most, he was just a pretty good friend.
If he took a step forward, with Shannon’s character, they probably couldn’t even be friends afterwards.
She is an independent and assertive girl, it’s not easy to impress her, moreover, she has been through a failed marriage, it’s apparent she now focuses everything on her child, if he confessed now, she might be pushed to leave.
It looks like this matter cannot be rushed, it seems to be quite a long-term thing.
However, Liam didn’t lose confidence, after all being near water, he just waited for the day when Shannon needed a man to rely on, then he would propose what would fit right into her intention, wouldn’t it?
For now, maintaining a good relationship first, and besides, growing affections over time isn’t impossible.
Thinking like this, the expression on Liam’s face became much better.
The backstage dressing room, which had been bustling earlier, had now quieted down.
Sheila Yardley, burdened with thoughts, was tidying up the messy clothes, turned around, and was about to hang the clothes in her hand on the side rack when she noticed out of the corner of her eye a silhouette at the door, upon seeing clearly who it was, she was taken aback, opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say, and for a moment, was somewhat surprised by Caleb Grant’s appearance.
"...Mr. Grant, what brings you here?"
Caleb had evidently been standing at the door for a while, only when Sheila noticed him did he step into the room, "Why are you alone?"
"Oh, they are all helping out in the front, I had some free time, so I came to tidy up a bit."
"Is this your daily work?"
Sheila was stunned for a moment, glanced at Caleb, unsure what he meant by that.
Was it a simple inquiry or did he look down on her work?
She nodded, not explaining further, turned back to continue sorting clothes.
"Actually, you only need to take care of me; you don’t have to work so hard."
Sheila stopped her movements, turned her head to look at Caleb, saying, "Taking care of you is temporary, this is my long-term job, something I have always insisted on."
"Having determination is a good thing."
From Caleb’s expression, Sheila couldn’t discern whether he was genuinely encouraging her or being sarcastic, so she quietly said, "As long as I complete the tasks you’ve instructed, the rest doesn’t concern you."
"Alright, carry on with your work."
Sheila thought he was about to leave when he said that, but when she turned back to look, not only had he not left, but he also sat down on a chair near the makeup table.
She didn’t mind him, silently continuing her work.
Neither of them noticed when a man passing by the door paused for a moment, looking in twice before moving on.
Soon after the man left, Sheila’s phone beeped with a message: Come out, staircase on the left-hand side.
Sheila wasn’t sure what Ryder Griffin wanted again, but she was very aware that he was no longer the same as before. After what happened last time, she was on guard.
Looking back at Caleb, who was lazily leaning on the chair as if he had fallen asleep, perhaps a bit exhausted.
She gently put down what she was holding, walked out of the room quietly, carefully closing the door behind her, then headed to where Ryder mentioned.
Arriving at the staircase, she saw him with a cigarette between his fingers, unshaven despite his usual image-conscious self, looking rather desolate.
She stood at a safe enough distance, ready to flee in the other direction if needed, looked at Ryder, and calmly asked, "What’s the matter?"
"Who’s that man?"
Sheila was taken aback, guessing he saw her with Caleb in the room earlier, moreover, he had likely seen him last time when Caleb picked her up at school.
She didn’t rush to clarify, perhaps she didn’t even intend to, lowering her gaze, she softly said, "That’s my own business."
Ryder sneered, "When did you hook up with him? Lynn Kendall says you’ve been tangled up with a man for a long time now, I didn’t believe it before, but now it seems neither of us is any better."
Sheila chuckled, "Well, just take it as such."
"Over the years, you clearly know how much I’ve put into you. I admit I was wrong, but you haven’t been any better, it’s both our faults this relationship ended up like this."
Too lazy to correct anything more, she truly hadn’t expected Lynn Kendall to have such an influence, turning a man completely inside out: "So be it, I wish you happiness."
Ryder laughed mockingly, "I heard that man has quite a background, otherwise, you wouldn’t have gotten into bed with him. I won’t say more, just return the money I spent when your mom was sick, and let’s call it even for what I spent on you, you don’t mind, do you?"
