My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 189: Erin Bishop Gets Married
CHAPTER 189: CHAPTER 189: ERIN BISHOP GETS MARRIED
Shannon Quinn was taken aback, "Are you talking about Cole? Who told you such nonsense? He’s just turned twenty."
"Love doesn’t care about age, besides, twenty isn’t that young anymore. Those youngsters know how to make a girl happy. Don’t get so charmed that you run off with him and lose your way."
Shannon smiled and said, "What are you thinking?"
"I’m just worried you’ll get blinded by love. I’m reminding you, you have a kid, so if you’re going to look, find a mature man to take care of you. Don’t end up raising a son for yourself."
Shannon rolled her eyes, "Mr. Hughes, with your imagination, it’s a pity you’re not a scriptwriter."
Liam Sterling laughed, "This is just a friendly reminder, it’s best if you have no such intentions. But Shannon... what kind of man are you looking for anyway?"
"Looking for what man? Leo is about to grow up. I take care of him now, and later he’ll take care of me."
Liam was amused by her words, yet there was a subtle emotion hidden in his smile. Many times he wanted to confess his feelings to her, but she seemed to only see him as a friend. He was quite afraid that if he confessed and failed, he’d lose the current way they interact.
After a pause, Liam said faintly, "He must be really outstanding for you to be willing to marry him."
Shannon suddenly froze. How long had it been since anyone had mentioned him? Thinking about him and mentioning him to others felt like two entirely different experiences.
She laughed dryly to cover her emotions, responding evasively, "Just eat your meal, why mention that?"
"Actually, I’m quite curious as to why you two divorced."
"We just weren’t suitable."
"Then what do you think is suitable?"
"It’s hard to say. You just feel it."
Liam feigned a light-hearted tone, jokingly saying, "Then what do you feel about me?"
Shannon gave another eye roll, "Mr. Hughes, don’t joke around with me."
Liam’s smile deepened, yet only he knew the bitterness behind it.
After the meal, Shannon returned to her room. From the moment Liam asked about Vincent Rhodes at the table, her mind had been a mess.
Sitting at the edge of the bed, looking at the sleeping child, she couldn’t help but marvel at the power and wonder of genetics. The child was so young, yet his eyebrows and eyes bore such a striking resemblance to him.
Lately, why has she been thinking about him more and more frequently?
Shannon took a deep breath, tucked Leo in, and turned to go out to the balcony for some fresh air.
She intended to divert her attention, but the scene before her greatly resembled the place she once traveled far and wide to see Vincent Rhodes.
There were still so many memories between them, it seemed.
It’s been over a year since they separated. Why is she caring more and more about his affairs?
After returning from her business trip, Erin Bishop came looking for her. On the way home from the airport, Erin said, "Shannon, I’m planning to get married."
Shannon was driving, turned her head to glance at Erin, then focused on the road ahead, asking her, "Have you thought it through?"
"Yes, I’ve thought it through."
Noticing the absence of joy on Erin’s face at the prospect of marriage, Shannon thought for a moment and asked, "Are you acting on a whim or are you really prepared?"
Erin lowered her gaze, took a deep breath, and said, "I don’t even know what I’m thinking. Yesterday, I went to see Zane Rhodes."
"Saw him?"
"Yes, I don’t understand what he’s up to. I could finally manage not to care, but he seems to always be around me. Several times when I went out or for dinner, I saw his car. Once, even on a plane on an overseas business trip, I ran into him. You tell me, is this a coincidence? I absolutely don’t believe it."
"Maybe he’s secretly keeping tabs on you, so is that why you sought him out?"
"Yeah, I’ve seen him several times, but he says nothing, doesn’t reply to texts. Yesterday I confronted him, asking what he meant by it all. Shamelessly, I straightforwardly asked if he still wanted to be together. He said I was overthinking, and it made me so angry I invited him to my wedding next week right then and there."
"So that’s why you’re recklessly saying you’re getting married."
Erin sighed lightly, "It’s not quite reckless. After going back, I’ve thought it over. I don’t want to keep lingering in the past. I’ve given us both a chance, so there won’t be regrets in the future. As for him, I don’t want to know what he’s thinking. Once married, I’ll settle down and live my life."
Shannon nodded with a mild smile, "Fair enough. You’ve done enough for him; let the past go. Life moves on."
"I used to always believe I would marry for love, not merely for living’s sake."
"Marriage, at its core, is just life. As long as he’s good to you."
"Yes, I’m just considering that he’s good enough to me for now. What about you, Shannon? When do you plan to find another?"
"Me?" Shannon smiled and shook her head, "I don’t plan to remarry any time soon. I feel like things are just fine as they are now."
"You might feel it’s fine, but what about Leo?"
Shannon jokingly said with a smile, "With a wonderful mom like me, what more could he possibly want?"
"True, with so many godparents around, Leo certainly isn’t short on love."
This time Erin came over, apart from talking heart-to-heart with Shannon, she was also planning her wedding with Susan Wilde.
The wedding wasn’t meant to be grand, focusing only on relatives and friends from both sides.
While accompanying Erin to choose wedding dresses, Shannon felt a slight twinge of envy.
She had been married before but never got to properly wear a wedding gown.
Recalling the day she married Vincent Rhodes, it was all a blur. She freed herself from the Quinn Family, moved into a new home, without the imagined fear or anxiety. Now, thinking back, it all felt like a dream.
A week later, to attend Erin’s wedding, Shannon returned to that city.
The wedding was set in a traditional church, sacred and cozy.
She saw Zane Rhodes nearby and noticed that from the moment Erin appeared, his eyes hardly left her.
Following her woman’s intuition, Shannon felt Zane must have feelings for Erin. Yet, what she couldn’t fathom was why he’d watch his beloved marry someone else just like that.
The wedding concluded beautifully, and the moment the ceremony ended, Zane left alone.
Erin was busy hosting and couldn’t attend to Shannon. So Shannon found Susan Wilde to chat.
Susan Wilde said enviously, "Sigh, I’ve seen all kinds of weddings, yet I wonder when I’ll finally get to plan one for myself."
"Your guy still not planning on getting married, huh?"
"Yeah, he says he wants to develop his career first, then think about marriage."
Shannon joked, "Well, you’d better keep an eye on him. Once a man becomes successful, sometimes he feels he can find a better woman. Don’t let him be swayed away when that happens."
It was just a joking comment, but Susan Wilde suddenly said very seriously, "Shannon, don’t say that. I’m honestly worried about that. I feel like he’s different from before."
