My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 226: Car Accident
CHAPTER 226: CHAPTER 226: CAR ACCIDENT
Midway through the dinner, Landon Sutton sent her a WeChat message, asking where she was.
Shannon Quinn wasn’t sure if he was looking for her for some reason, or if it was as usual, she would just glance at his message and not reply.
"Shannon, I saw you drove here earlier, can I trouble you to give me a ride to the exhibition center later?"
"Sure."
"My brother’s hotel is also near the exhibition center, we’ll catch a ride with you then."
It wasn’t anything particularly inconvenient, so Shannon Quinn cheerfully agreed.
Shawn Pierce went to the cashier to pay the bill, while Sylvie Pierce walked Shannon Quinn out of the restaurant, arm in arm.
They had only known each other for two days, yet seemed like sisters with an unusually close bond.
After Shawn Pierce finished paying, he came out and seeing Shannon Quinn preparing to drive, he considerately said, "Let me drive."
Shannon Quinn nodded and handed the car keys to Shawn Pierce, she and Sylvie Pierce sat in the back seat together.
In the car, Sylvie Pierce didn’t idle; she shared funny stories about her brother’s childhood without holding back.
Chatting made time fly, and they soon reached the exhibition center.
"Then I’ll head off, let’s go shopping together when we have some time."
"Alright."
Sylvie Pierce waved to her brother again, then playfully winked and signaled him to seize the opportunity.
After restarting the car, something felt off to Shannon Quinn once Sylvie Pierce got out.
She even started to have wild thoughts, feeling she was too careless earlier and shouldn’t have let Shawn Pierce drive.
Even though Shawn Pierce now gave her an impression of not being a bad person, he wasn’t absolutely safe either; if he drove her to some unknown place, she wouldn’t know what to do.
Sylvie Pierce had mentioned earlier that the hotel wasn’t far from the exhibition center, yet it’s been several minutes and they hadn’t arrived.
Shawn Pierce seemed to notice her unease and explained with a smile, "I’m here for the first time, not very familiar, I’m just following the navigation. Let me know if we’re taking the wrong route."
Shannon Quinn gave a dry laugh and nodded: "Alright."
"Do you work nearby?"
"Yes, right behind the restaurant earlier."
While waiting at the traffic light, Shawn Pierce turned to look at Shannon Quinn once, then faced forward again, speaking to her through the rearview mirror: "You look familiar, but I can’t seem to recall where I’ve seen you before."
"Really? Maybe I just have a common face."
Shawn Pierce chuckled: "Not really, you’re quite beautiful. If Shirley hadn’t said you’re 25 and already have a child, I would’ve believed you were still in college."
Shannon Quinn laughed shyly: "That’s a bit of an exaggeration."
"By the way, why didn’t you bring your child today? I heard from Shirley that he’s very cute."
"... He’s at an interest class."
"Are you free tonight? Bring your child out for dinner together, I quite like kids."
"Tonight might not work, I have something at home, maybe another day."
Shannon Quinn hesitated several times, wanting to say she wasn’t considering any romantic relationships, but as he hadn’t mentioned pursuing her or marriage, she couldn’t say much.
Luckily, her worry was unnecessary; Shawn Pierce had no ill intentions towards her, and politely thanked her once they reached the hotel: "I’ll head back to the hotel now, take care on your way."
"Alright, go rest."
After seeing Shawn Pierce off, Shannon Quinn hadn’t even released a sigh of relief when she spotted Shawn Pierce stopping and chatting with a man at the hotel entrance.
That man wasn’t just anyone; it was Landon Sutton.
Shawn Pierce seemed surprised to encounter Landon Sutton here, looking a bit astonished.
Shannon Quinn watched from the car, sensing the two seemed like good friends.
Earlier, Sylvie Pierce mentioned her brother had served in the military; it’s possible they were Landon Sutton’s comrades.
Such complicated relationships, Shannon Quinn truly didn’t want to get involved.
Watching Shawn Pierce walk into the hotel while Landon Sutton came straight toward her.
Suddenly unsure whether Landon Sutton had seen him, she quickly maneuvered around the car and sat in the driver’s seat.
As she was about to start the car, someone knocked on her window.
Shannon Quinn didn’t need to look to know who it was; she reluctantly rolled down the window, wondering why she should be afraid, after all, she hadn’t done anything wrong.
"Boss Sutton, anything?"
"Why were you with him?" Landon Sutton frowned, clearly displeased.
Shannon Quinn raised her eyebrows, playing it cool: "Who? You mean Mr. Pierce? A match through a friend, why? Boss Sutton intends to interfere in his business partner’s personal matters too?"
"Shannon Quinn, are you doing this on purpose?"
Usually, he’s the one playing tricks on her; seeing him flustered was a rare chance for Shannon Quinn to enjoy, leaning on the window, smiling as she watched Landon Sutton: "I don’t quite understand what Boss Sutton means, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be off then?"
This sudden encounter between Landon Sutton and Shawn Pierce was undoubtedly connected to Sylvie Pierce; rather than taking it out on Shannon Quinn, it was better to deal with the root issue.
He glared at Shannon Quinn before turning and striding away.
Shannon Quinn felt as though she had finally won against him once, feeling somewhat happy inside as she started the car to turn around.
Landon Sutton pondered whether he should confront Sylvie Pierce directly; he suspected Sylvie knew about his past with Shannon Quinn, playing naive while introducing her to her brother, truly startling him.
If Shannon Quinn truly got involved with Shawn Pierce, with a choice between brotherhood and the woman he loved, he didn’t want to make such a decision.
He turned back toward the hotel intending to find Shawn Pierce, but hadn’t reached the entrance when he heard a loud crash behind him...
The previously orderly traffic suddenly became chaotic, pedestrians drawn by the noise started gathering towards the accident site.
"Did someone crash?"
"Yeah, how did they get so careless?"
"I saw the collision myself, scared me to death!"
"What happened?"
"The Audi was about to cross the road, and out of nowhere, a black car from the right lane seemed drunk, ignoring the wide open road and just plowed straight into the white car, speeding all the way."
"Oh my god, the car’s wrecked, are they okay?"
Among the noises, Landon Sutton only caught one piece of information: a white Audi car.
He remembered it was the car he gave Shannon Quinn.
And she had just been driving that car.
Landon Sutton immediately rushed towards the gathering crowd, his surroundings noisy with a variety of voices, some discussing the incident while others called the police and ambulance.
For the first time, he felt his mind become muddled, staring at the crumpled white Audi for two seconds before sprinting forward.
The black car collided from the side, pinning Shannon Quinn’s car against the median undergrowth, the car body severely deformed.
