My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 231: I Don’t Want to Wait Any Longer
CHAPTER 231: CHAPTER 231: I DON’T WANT TO WAIT ANY LONGER
Shannon Quinn glanced at him seemingly unintentionally and murmured, "Mmm."
After Landon Sutton sat down, he looked around, got up, and threw away the snack packaging Shannon Quinn had left on the table while watching TV. While tidying up, he said to her, "Didn’t the doctor tell you to avoid certain foods?"
"I ate non-spicy stuff."
"Non-spicy doesn’t mean nutritious."
Shannon Quinn pouted and didn’t reply, picking up the remote control to change the channel from a commercial.
Leo carried a tray of washed grapes into the living room, handing them to Shannon Quinn before eating. "Mom, these are for you."
Shannon Quinn propped herself up from the sofa. Leo, ever so thoughtful, hurriedly put the fruit tray on the coffee table and went over to help Shannon Quinn. Though not adding much strength, the gesture was heartwarming.
Landon Sutton saw that Shannon Quinn’s spirits and recovery seemed good and felt reassured.
Seeing Catherine Yardley busy alone in the kitchen, he naturally couldn’t just sit idly by. He quietly got up and walked towards the kitchen.
As Shannon Quinn stuffed grapes into her mouth, her gaze followed Landon Sutton curiously, wondering what he was going to do, only to see him head straight into the kitchen.
He spoke softly, and Shannon Quinn couldn’t hear what he said in the kitchen, but immediately saw Catherine Yardley ushering him out, saying, "No need, no need, there’s nothing you need to help with. It’s smoky here; go sit outside and relax, watch Shannon and Leo for me."
"I’m watching Leo!" Shannon Quinn shouted towards the kitchen, "Mom, give him something to do. It’ll be faster with two people cooking. I’m starving."
Having said that, Landon Sutton naturally wouldn’t sit idly, and Catherine Yardley didn’t refuse anymore and assigned Landon Sutton some simple tasks.
Originally, it was assumed Landon Sutton had never been in a kitchen and wasn’t skilled in household chores, but unexpectedly, he was quite adept, and Catherine Yardley became increasingly satisfied with Sutton.
"You work faster than our Shannon."
Landon Sutton replied with a smile, "When I’m home, if I have time, I cook for myself."
"It’s good you can cook, that way Shannon won’t go hungry."
Landon Sutton smiled, clearly understanding the implication behind Catherine Yardley’s words.
Now having won over Shannon Quinn’s son and mom, it’s only her left.
Shannon Quinn felt much better physically, but the family still treated her like an invalid to serve, sparing her the effort, directly bringing food to the coffee table.
"These two dishes are made by Sutton, his cooking is better than mine, Shannon, try them."
Shannon Quinn’s chopsticks aimed at the plate, then switched to the one next to it, saying, "I still think mom’s cooking is the best."
Catherine Yardley knew she was deliberately being difficult, so she proactively placed a piece of rib in Shannon Quinn’s bowl, saying, "How do you know if it’s good or not without trying?"
Shannon Quinn, tempted but feigning reluctance, tasted the meat and placed the bone aside, saying half-heartedly, "It’s okay, edible."
Meanwhile, Leo was entirely different, he loves ribs, and after eating several pieces, he sat next to Landon Sutton, looked up with admiration, and said, "Uncle’s cooking is delicious."
"Really? Then I’ll often cook for you, okay?" Landon Sutton said, then both his and Leo’s gaze turned to Shannon Quinn, concerned she might disagree.
But Shannon Quinn said nothing, pretending not to hear, and reached out with her chopsticks for another piece of rib.
Landon Sutton thought her lack of objection indicated tacit approval.
He couldn’t fathom why her attitude seemed to change, maybe the care during her hospital stay moved her?
After the meal, Landon Sutton helped clean the kitchen alongside Catherine Yardley, who entrusted him with finishing up.
"With Sutton’s help, I’ve felt much more relaxed."
Shannon Quinn, dissatisfied, remarked, "Mom, that’s favoritism. I’m physically limited now, but I helped with chores when I was well; why didn’t you praise me?"
"Sweetie, our Shannon is good too. With Sutton here and it not being too cold these days, I’ll take Leo for a walk in the park."
"Is Uncle Sutton coming too?" Leo, tidying up toys nearby, immediately asked.
Catherine Yardley replied, "Your mom’s injured, needs someone around, so Uncle Sutton won’t be going with us."
Leo quickly figured out something and said, "Alright then, Grandma, let’s go now."
Shannon Quinn knew Catherine Yardley’s intention well; thinking about being alone with Landon Sutton made her a bit nervous.
Catherine Yardley took Leo out, leaving only the sound of the TV in the room.
Shannon Quinn leaned on the sofa, facing the TV, but her gaze was slanted towards the kitchen.
Watching Landon Sutton take out the trash bag and go outside, she opened her mouth wanting to tell him where the garbage chute was, but ultimately didn’t speak.
He returned shortly, indicating the kitchen work was almost done.
He washed his hands and came out of the kitchen, Shannon Quinn refocused on the TV, watching him with peripheral vision.
Landon Sutton surveyed the living room, then went to the toys Leo had half organized, placing them on the shelf.
Shannon Quinn had anticipated he would seize the opportunity of being alone to talk to her, but he said nothing, and she felt too embarrassed to initiate conversation, almost bursting from the awkwardness.
Until Landon Sutton placed the last toy on the shelf, he finally pointed at the shelf full of toys and asked Shannon Quinn, "Are these all Leo’s?"
Shannon Quinn glanced at him, then back at the TV, and replied, annoyed, "Who else could they be?"
"All gifts from Leo’s countless uncles?"
"Yeah, you’re the one who gives the least."
Landon Sutton turned to inspect the shelf, containing toys for all ages; his concern wasn’t about those uncles or Shannon Quinn’s suitors, but rather regret for not being part of Leo’s growth.
Seeing these toys felt like a reminder of the years he wasn’t by Leo’s side, bringing a sense of guilt.
"Should I catch up now?" After a while, he responded to Shannon Quinn’s earlier remark.
Shannon Quinn saw him sit beside her, continued fiddling with the TV remote, and said, "It’s too late; Leo doesn’t play with toys much anymore."
"But I don’t want to wait any longer."
Shannon Quinn paused her actions with the remote, remaining silent.
Landon Sutton continued, "Look at us now, I’m unmarried, you’re unmarried, and the kid’s all grown up. Even if you don’t like me that much, at least give it a try."
