My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 234: Her Pettiness
CHAPTER 234: CHAPTER 234: HER PETTINESS
Landon Sutton turned his head and glanced at Shannon Quinn before replying, "I do plan to do that, and I suppose I should have properly introduced Shannon to you all before to avoid such misunderstandings."
Shawn Pierce awkwardly laughed, looking carefree, and said, "Luckily we found out in time, or it would have been a real joke."
The usually lively Sylvie Pierce sat quietly aside, her face looking rather displeased despite her forced smile.
Shannon Quinn was unsure whether Sylvie Pierce’s approach was coincidental or a careful calculation, but she hoped Sylvie would give up any thoughts about Landon Sutton and that they could continue being friends.
Mom was right; love is never about yielding. If Landon liked Sylvie, she might choose to wish them well. But since Landon liked her, why should she suffer to fulfill a relationship with a friend she isn’t particularly close to?
Shawn Pierce, after learning about Landon Sutton and Shannon Quinn’s relationship, completely dropped all thoughts about Shannon and kept calling her "Shannon sister."
It was clear he had a genuine friendship with Landon, as they were brothers who always stuck together.
Moreover, his personality was straightforward and didn’t seem calculating.
Around four o’clock, Landon said he had to go pick up the kids, and Shawn understood they should prepare to leave too.
Shannon Quinn politely offered for them to stay for dinner, but Sylvie said she had other plans and declined.
The two left with Landon who was going to pick up the kids, while Shannon stood up and walked to the balcony.
Soon, she saw the three of them come out of the building, with the siblings getting into Landon’s car.
She wasn’t sure if someone had requested the ride, or if Landon had politely invited them, but she saw Shawn naturally sitting in the backseat while Sylvie opened the front passenger door and got in.
The sight made Shannon frown in displeasure as she watched the car start up and drive away.
She returned to the living room, and while watching TV, all she could think about was Sylvie sitting in the front passenger seat.
As she thought about it more, she became increasingly uncomfortable, and suddenly realized how petty she’d become.
Such a trivial matter could make her so unsettled.
Leo’s school ended at four thirty, and she wondered if Landon had been delayed by taking the Pierce siblings, as it was nearly five when he returned.
Catherine Yardley was absent today, so Landon brought back some groceries, "Take these to eat with Mom, Uncle’s going to make dinner now."
"Isn’t Uncle eating?"
"Just save one for Uncle."
Leo happily nodded and said alright, then changed his shoes and ran towards Shannon Quinn.
"Slow down! What song did you learn today?" Shannon hugged Leo close, smoothing his hair while asking.
Leo obediently answered about his lessons, then used his small hand to offer Shannon a mini cream puff.
Shannon chatted with the boy for a while in the living room while Landon remained in the kitchen preparing dinner.
Once Leo started watching cartoons, Shannon got up to go to the restroom and then headed to the kitchen.
While cutting vegetables, Landon glanced at her with his peripheral vision and turned his head to face her, asking, "Are you hungry?"
Shannon didn’t answer, just walked into the kitchen and watched him cut vegetables.
When she didn’t reply, Landon thought she was simply bored and continued chopping. As he raised the knife, she asked, "Did you drop them off at the hotel?"
Landon nodded, "Yes, first picked up Leo, then dropped them off. Why?"
He could sense Shannon had some emotions but couldn’t pinpoint the reason.
Shannon pouted, "Just asking."
Landon set down the knife, turned to her, and laughed lightly, "Is this jealousy?"
"Who said I’m jealous?"
"I only did it for Shawn. He and I have known each other for over twenty years, but I’m not very familiar with Sylvie. I used to be in closed training, only home once a year, don’t overthink it."
"Why did you let her sit in the front seat then?" Shannon felt she had to voice her frustration.
Landon finally understood what was bothering her and laughed affectionately, "So you get jealous easily?"
"I told you I wasn’t jealous."
Patiently, Landon explained, "She mentioned feeling car-sick and wanted to sit in front. I didn’t think much of it, besides there aren’t only the two of us in the car; are you worried we’d do something?"
"Hmph, do whatever you like. We haven’t remarried yet anyway; you still have time to regret."
"Regret what? If you’d messaged me saying you didn’t want her in front, I’d have asked her to move back immediately."
"I’m not that petty!" Shannon said before turning and leaving the kitchen.
Landon’s smile was helpless, but he enjoyed this jealous side of hers.
Landon’s explanation satisfied Shannon, as she returned to the living room and felt the tension ease away.
Soon, it was almost New Year’s Eve, and Shannon was recovering well, though she hadn’t been going out much. For one, Landon wouldn’t allow her to go out, fearing accidents; secondly, the weather was cold, and Shannon herself didn’t want to venture out.
During this period, Landon was like a hired nanny, preparing meals and picking up the child.
Catherine Yardley was never truly settled about Julian Yardley, and with Landon taking care of things here, she often went to visit Julian Yardley, giving this tiny family of three more time together.
With Catherine’s room available, Shannon thought it was quite sad to have Landon constantly staying in a hotel, so after some days, she asked him to temporarily stay.
Less than half a month passed, but it completely transformed Shannon’s lifestyle and habits; she even felt like they were already a three-person family, except Leo still called him Uncle rather than Dad.
Shannon still wanted to wait until after remarrying to tell Leo the truth.
On the night before New Year’s Eve, Landon, as usual, lulled Leo to sleep while Shannon was watching TV in the living room. He walked over and sat beside her, "Shannon, I need to discuss something with you."
Shannon turned to him in confusion.
"With New Year’s Eve coming, Grandpa insists I go back tomorrow night, and I wanted to hear your thoughts on whether you’d come with me."
Upon hearing that, Shannon’s first reaction wasn’t whether to go back with him, but it suddenly hit her that he wouldn’t be with her and Leo for the holiday.
"Hmm?" He asked again, as Shannon hadn’t responded.
"Not now, our relationship isn’t mature enough at the moment. Plus, Leo isn’t aware of these things yet; going back now would be too rushed."
