CHAPTER 240: CHAPTER 240: I CAN BE A KEPT MAN, TOO

After arriving in that familiar city, Shannon Quinn felt a bit sentimental, as if she hadn’t been back for two or three years.

Ever since Catherine Yardley moved away, she hadn’t come back to this place.

"Not much has changed." Shannon Quinn said as she walked out of the airport.

Landon Sutton chuckled, "It hasn’t been that long, how much could it change?"

"But there’s still a sense of unfamiliarity; I’ve kind of forgotten what it looks like here."

"That way, you can get a new sense of freshness. Want to have a look around?"

Shannon Quinn thought for a moment and asked him, "What’s your plan?"

"My plan is to accompany you. If you want to look around, we can set off later."

"Let’s go with your plan first."

"Sure, we’ll have plenty of time to explore later."

They were picked up by a luxury RV, its opulence made Shannon Quinn a bit speechless. From the inside, you couldn’t tell this was a vehicle at all; it was equivalent to a five-star hotel, and living comfortably here wasn’t a problem at all.

Shannon Quinn walked into the RV, inspecting the interior layout.

But Landon Sutton seemed very familiar with the setup inside, heading straight to the dining table and said, "It might be evening before we arrive. Eat something first, then take a nap, and you should be there when you wake up."

An attendant was on the RV to serve them, bringing them meals and desserts, something Shannon Quinn hadn’t expected - to travel with such luxury.

While sipping the soup Landon Sutton served her, she remarked, "Rich people really know how to enjoy life."

Landon Sutton maintained a straight face and said, "Yeah, tagging along with a rich woman is the only way to enjoy such treatment."

"Young Master Rhodes, don’t mock me. I’ve worked hard for years, and I’m still unsure if I can match your monthly expenses."

"I don’t spend much. I rarely drink, I’m quitting smoking, I’m not picky with food, and I can even enjoy being taken care of."

Shannon Quinn rolled her eyes, "Please don’t, I don’t want to raise two sons."

"I, on the other hand, would like to raise two daughters."

Shannon Quinn pretended not to understand his insinuation and just focused on eating.

Everything in the RV was great, except it only had one bed. Though it was a double bed, given their current relationship, it still felt a bit awkward.

Shannon Quinn would get sleepy after eating, and the gentle sway of the RV, no matter how steady it was, only intensified it.

While watching TV on the sofa, she began to doze off. The sofa in the RV wasn’t as big as the one at home, so Shannon Quinn curled up to fall asleep.

Landon Sutton seemed to be working on the computer nearby. When he turned and saw her curled up and asleep, with the TV still on, he quietly approached her and gave her shoulder a gentle pat, turning off the TV with the remote.

Shannon Quinn opened her eyes and glanced at him, asked, "You’re not sleeping?"

"I have some work to finish. Go to the bed; it isn’t good for your wounds to curl up like that."

"It’s okay, I’ll just nap here for a bit." She adjusted her position to lie flat, closed her eyes and said, "Go on with your work. If you’re tired, have a rest too, don’t... ah!"

In the middle of her sentence, she suddenly felt herself being lifted, causing a gasp from the drowsy Shannon Quinn. Instinctively, she clutched Landon Sutton’s clothes tightly, and realized she was already on the big bed by the time she came to her senses.

"You need to rest well to have the energy to enjoy later. Sleep, I’ll wake you when we arrive."

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Shannon Quinn pulled the blanket over herself, watching as he turned around and returned to his work.

Sometimes, she really felt sorry for him. She started reflecting, realizing she had been longing for him to treat her exceptionally well, to make her happy and satisfied with everything. But thinking back, she seldom did anything for him in return.

When she awoke again from a deep sleep, it was already pitch black outside the window.

The road had become a bit bumpy, and the lighting inside the vehicle made it hard to see anything outside except her own reflection in the window.

She sat up on the bed and leaned her face against the window.

It was dark, not a streetlamp in sight, she couldn’t see anything, had no clue where they were.

Turning her head towards the desk area, she saw the chair was empty, the laptop closed with documents neatly arranged beside it.

Soon, she noticed Landon Sutton leaning back on the sofa with his eyes closed.

She sat on the bed, staring blankly at him for a moment; despite looking tired, his good looks were unaffected.

She moved slightly, intending to get off the bed to use the restroom, and as soon as she put on her slippers, she heard his voice: "Awake?"

She wasn’t sure if he hadn’t been sleeping or just a light sleeper, but despite her efforts to be quiet, she’d awakened him.

"Awake now?"

Shannon Quinn didn’t answer but asked, "Where are we? Why is it so dark?"

He glanced at his watch for the time, and replied, "Almost there."

"Are we in the mountains? Why aren’t there any lights on the road?"

Landon Sutton smiled but didn’t reply, keeping her in suspense.

Shannon Quinn didn’t press further; even though the destination was unknown, having him by her side quelled any fear.

After using the restroom, she saw residential lights appearing along the road, and rows of small colorful lights lining the sides.

Maybe because she had just come from the darkness without a single beam of light, the sight of the lights made her feel wonderful.

"We’re here." With Landon Sutton’s reminder, the RV gradually slowed to a stop.

"Let’s go." He gestured to her, waiting by the door.

Shannon Quinn stepped off the RV to find herself in front of a building.

The building was mostly of wooden construction, a quaint type of inn. The yard in front of the villa was lively, with a few young people having a self-service barbecue. A guy with a guitar was playing an unknown folk song, and you could hear the laughter from those chatting in the yard, enjoying the night breeze.

Behind her, Landon Sutton instructed his casual subordinates: "Take the luggage upstairs. Your rooms are on the first floor. We might be staying here for two or three days, so enjoy your time. I’ll inform you when we leave."

The two subordinates and the driver nodded happily, "Okay, thank you, boss."

After the instructions, Landon Sutton walked over to Shannon Quinn, who was gazing around. He assumed she remembered the place, asking casually, "What’s up?"

She withdrew her gaze and looked at him, simply saying, "Waiting for you."

"Let’s head upstairs, take a shower then come down to eat."

Shannon Quinn nodded, following Landon Sutton upstairs.

She vaguely felt a sense of familiarity, but then she thought many inns had similar decor, so she didn’t dwell on it.

Landon Sutton felt a bit disappointed she didn’t mention having been here before; apparently, she completely forgot about that time.

Not surprising, she doesn’t even remember him, let alone this inn after its renovation.
