CHAPTER 242: CHAPTER 242: HAS SOMEONE DIED HERE?

"What’s wrong?" A familiar voice came from the other end of the phone.

Upon hearing Landon Sutton’s voice, Shannon Quinn immediately felt a lot more at ease.

The fear in her heart made her disregard any dignity, and her voice trembled slightly as she spoke, "I heard the knocking again just now. Get up and check if there’s anyone outside my door from your side."

"Knocking again? Did they say anything?"

"No, not a word." She shrank at the head of the bed, staring at that door.

Within seconds, Landon Sutton’s voice came simultaneously from outside the door and through the phone, "Shannon, it’s me."

Only then did Shannon Quinn dare to get off the bed, immediately going to open the door, and upon seeing Landon Sutton standing there, she finally felt safe.

She poked her head out to glance down both sides of the hallway, finding it empty with no one in sight.

She reached out to pull Landon Sutton tightly into the room, nervously closed the door, and pulled him inside, speaking in a very low voice, "Wait, it’s definitely going to knock again in a while!"

Landon Sutton laughed, "Did it scare you silly?"

"It’s really scary! You didn’t hear the knocking; it’s the same rhythm every time!"

"Could it be someone playing a prank?"

"Then why only knock on my door? And at this hour, who would be so bored?" Shannon Quinn pulled him to sit by the bed and said seriously, "Have you ever heard a story? Maybe something else has been living in this room, and I moved in and took its place, so it purposely scares me to make me leave!"

Landon Sutton put away his smile and stared seriously at a spot behind her, saying in an earnest tone, "Look behind you."

Already on high alert, Shannon Quinn was startled upon hearing this, and without caring about anything else, backed away with weak legs towards him.

Landon Sutton reached out to catch her, who nearly stumbled, and chuckled.

Upon hearing his laughter, Shannon Quinn realized she had been tricked, angrily pushing him away, "You’re scaring me!"

Landon Sutton laughed, ruffled her hair, and said, "With me here, what are you afraid of?"

"What if it possesses you?"

"I’m full of yang energy; it can’t get near me."

Shannon Quinn glared at him and angrily sat on the bed.

Landon Sutton stood in front of her, asking, "So what do we do now? We can’t just sit here all night waiting for it, can we?"

Shannon Quinn sat on the bed with a serious face, seeming to ponder something.

Landon Sutton sat by her side and said, "Just sleep, I’ll keep watch."

Shannon Quinn glanced at him, still unsure, and stood up, saying, "I feel this room isn’t habitable. Did someone die here?"

"What on earth is in your head?" Landon Sutton lovingly tapped her head and then said, "You could move to my room if you’re uncomfortable here."

Shannon Quinn thought it wouldn’t be safe even if he moved over, and she didn’t want anything to happen to him.

She started packing her luggage, "This room is uninhabitable, you hurry and help me move my things to your side."

Landon Sutton chuckled silently as she haphazardly stuffed things into her suitcase. He helped carry it, reminding her as they headed to the door, "I only have one bed on my side."

But Shannon Quinn wasn’t concerned about that; she hurried him out, seemingly unwilling to stay a moment longer in that room.

Once outside, she said, "You should cancel this room tomorrow; it’s bad luck."

"Alright." Landon Sutton replied as he took out the room card and opened his own room’s door.

Shannon Quinn stood close to him, glancing around suspiciously, and when she saw the hallway camera, said, "There’s surveillance; tomorrow I’ll ask the owner to check what’s going on."

Landon Sutton pushed open the door, letting her in first, placed her suitcase down, and looked at the single bed in the room, "Half and half?"

Shannon Quinn looked around; there wasn’t even a sofa, but the bed was big enough. Besides, compared to that eerie knocking, sharing half a bed with him was nothing.

They’d already had a child together, and her fear made her no longer care about such matters.

"Half and half it is." She said, walking over to the bed and settling on one side.

Landon Sutton chuckled, sitting on the bed, "Not scared anymore now? Get some sleep, it’s so late."

Shannon Quinn curled up in the blanket, her back to him and facing the window, not speaking.

"Shall we turn off the light?" he asked.

Shannon Quinn looked at the glaring light, then said hesitantly, "Keep a small one on."

After the sound of the light switch, only dim light remained in the room.

Landon Sutton lifted the blanket and lay down on the large part of the bed she left unoccupied.

"You can come over a bit; there’s so much space."

After he said that, she didn’t move, already at the bed’s edge.

There was only one blanket. Seeing her unmoved, he moved closer, shifting the blanket towards her.

"Still scared?"

Knowing he was right behind her within arm’s reach, Shannon Quinn’s inner panic nearly vanished, murmuring softly, "Just find it strange. Tomorrow, we must check the surveillance!"

"Okay, now sleep."

There were no more knocking sounds, and in the silence, his breathing was clearly audible.

Was he asleep?

She turned to face him. The dim light cast his facial contours distinct and vivid.

She recalled when she didn’t know he and Vincent Rhodes were the same person, and she had traced this face in the dark inch by inch.

Even though she couldn’t see then, she felt he wasn’t as hideous as rumored.

They were less than half a meter apart. He lay on his back, seemingly deep in sleep.

Shannon Quinn withdrew her gaze, lying flat, synchronizing her breathing with his and quickly fell asleep.

As she fell asleep, Shannon Quinn’s positions were still proper, but she became restless once in slumber.

In the middle of the night, Landon Sutton was awakened by her kicking.

Before sleeping, she kept a distance, now half of her body was sprawled over him.

Thinking about it, they hadn’t really slept together before; he never knew she was such a restless sleeper.

He reached to remove her leg from him, but in just two seconds, she wrapped him with arms and legs again, perhaps mistaking him for her life-sized plushie at home.

With a helpless sigh, he turned, holding her in his arms, pressing her legs down with his own, forcing her to sleep peacefully.

To be honest, holding her once more felt really nice.

She had gained some weight, felt snug and soft in his embrace.

He took a deep breath, resting his chin on her hair, inhaling the faint scent from her hair, and comfortably closed his eyes.
