CHAPTER 27: CHAPTER 27: WHY NOT GET A DIVORCE

Outside the door, Landon Sutton leaned against the wall, standing by the door with a heavy expression.

Simon Rhodes rushed over after hearing the news, "How is it?"

"The doctor just went in."

Simon Rhodes took a deep breath, hesitated, and told Landon Sutton, "You should go downstairs. Your current closeness to Shannon is not good for you or her. I’ll inform you if anything happens here."

Landon Sutton couldn’t stop worrying about Shannon Quinn’s situation, but when he looked up, he saw the old man standing not far away with a cane, biting his teeth, looking heavy-hearted, and then turned to leave.

Shannon Quinn lay on the bed, the pain from disinfecting the wound awakened her consciousness.

She turned her head to glance at the female doctor treating her wound next to her and spoke with clenched teeth.

"Bear with it, we have to get the pieces of glass out, or it’ll easily leave a scar."

Shannon Quinn didn’t speak, staring blankly at the ground.

It took more than two hours for the doctor to finish treating her wound, a servant brought over a loosely fitted casual dress, not knowing who bought it, just right in case of emergency.

Simon Rhodes suggested she rest for one night before leaving, but Shannon Quinn was worried about Mia at home and planned to leave once her wounds were treated.

As she went downstairs, the traces of the previous farce had already been cleaned up, everything restored to its original state, and both Director Ward and June Yardley were nowhere to be seen.

She vaguely remembered, in her semi-conscious state, the man she saw seemed to be Landon Sutton.

As she prepared to leave the hall, she also saw Landon Sutton standing not far away, chatting with a man in a suit.

He seemed to glance at her when her gaze happened to move away.

Shannon Quinn didn’t go to confirm, lowered her head and walked out.

Simon Rhodes arranged for a driver to take her home.

She had gone with great expectations, but now her heart was somewhat blocked.

She didn’t want to invite such troubles, but others refused to let her go.

Returning home, her back wound seemed even more painful, uncomfortable whether standing or sitting, she took a few painkillers, and lay on the bed in a daze.

Mia was jumping around her room, making rustling noises, knocked over her pen holder from the table, she didn’t speak up, nor did she move to clean it up.

Mia sniffed the pile of pens, seeming to know she had done something wrong, and lay down on the carpet beside the bed.

After the room quieted down, Shannon Quinn somehow fell asleep.

The bedroom and living room lights were still on, the balcony glass door hadn’t been closed, the night wind flowed in, making the curtains sway, on a summer night, it was rather peaceful.

Maybe the medicine had a sleep-inducing effect, but when the room’s lights went out, Shannon Quinn didn’t notice.

The door was opened from the outside, followed by the subtle sound of wheelchair wheels sliding on the floor, heading straight for the bedroom.

"Meow"

The kitten’s meow made Landon Sutton pause, glanced down, but ignored it, stopping by the bed, looking at the woman lying there.

Unwilling to disturb her, he just quietly stared, unaware that the cat suddenly jumped onto the bed, stepped lightly on her back, then leaped to the other side of the bed.

The cat was small, the step light, but enough to send a noticeable pain from Shannon Quinn’s injured back.

She stirred and woke up, yet hadn’t realized there was someone by the bed. She turned her head to look in the direction the cat jumped, then reached for the bedhead, pressed the light switch a few times, but the light didn’t come on.

She might have previously thought the light was broken, but at the moment, she suddenly recalled something.

Not fully rising, she saw a dark silhouette by the bedhead.

If she hadn’t been mentally prepared, she might have been frightened to death by him.

"Is it serious?" he ignored her panic, his hoarse voice asked.

Shannon Quinn sat up, looking at him in the darkness, scrutinized for two seconds, and asked, "How do you know?"

He said, "I know everything about you."

Shannon Quinn frowned, holding back a stomach full of resentment, said, "So you’re just hiding in the dark watching me make a fool of myself?"

Under the mask, Landon Sutton’s expression was pained and gloomy, but he didn’t speak.

Because now, he wasn’t qualified to promise her anything, even being able to watch her in the dark felt like a luxury.

"Vincent Rhodes, what are you afraid of? Do you know what people outside say about you? They call you a monster, a cripple!" Shannon Quinn was somewhat agitated, seeing he didn’t speak, she was helpless, but also wanted to spill out her pent-up words.

"You may endure silently, but I can’t. I don’t know why you chose to marry me back then, but after two years of marriage, I realized speaking to you isn’t important. Instead, carrying the title of your wife, I am insulted and targeted, you hide behind and do nothing. Why should I face all this alone?"

"... I’m sorry."

His apology surprised her, softening her heart a little, Shannon Quinn took a deep breath, decisively said, "Let’s just divorce."

Landon Sutton was silent, when he, as Landon Sutton, deceived her about the divorce, he seemed indifferent, but now hearing her mention it, felt deeply hurt.

"Anyway, being married or not doesn’t make a difference, my presence or absence doesn’t affect your life, but I’ve had enough, I don’t want to deal with those rumors every day, constantly worrying about being framed and ensnared, I just want a simple life."

After expressing her stance, watching the man in the darkness, previously righteous in tone, gradually became guilty under his silence.

"You are not qualified to end this marriage." Landon Sutton said, placing something on the bed with his gloved hand before turning his wheelchair to leave.

Shannon Quinn sat dazed on the bed, deflated.

Indeed, what right does she have to ask for a divorce, after all, when he married her, the Rhodes family spent quite a lot of money, which seemed more than enough to buy her lifetime.

Her nose tingled, tears welled up in her eyes, she tried hard to restrain them, the room’s lights suddenly turned on, the bright light stinging her eyes, with a blink, tears slid down her cheeks.

Miss Quinn hurriedly wiped the tears from her face, looking down at what he had placed beside the bed.

It was a box of ointment, with labels she couldn’t understand in some foreign language, she opened the lid and smelled it, a faint herbal scent, applying a little on the wound on her arm, feeling cool without any sting.

She couldn’t tell whether she should be grateful to Vincent Rhodes or resent him.

Perhaps, to be accurate, she merely jumped from one mire into another, neither were easy to deal with.

Once again, June Yardley refreshed Shannon Quinn’s perception of her; she could do anything when crazy. She felt that if the man hadn’t stepped in to save her tonight, she might have really died at the hands of Director Ward.
