My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 34: In Such a Hurry to Find Someone New?
CHAPTER 34: CHAPTER 34: IN SUCH A HURRY TO FIND SOMEONE NEW?
Shannon Quinn was taken aback upon hearing this: "Me? Forget it, I don’t have the energy."
Even if she was single, she wouldn’t get involved with a man like Landon Sutton.
"Don’t put all your focus on work. It’s important to play sometimes. But one thing I must tell you, don’t get into bed with anyone before marriage. If a man wants to sleep with you as soon as he meets you, just say goodbye. Don’t be fooled by those jerks. We girls must love ourselves first, so others will love you too."
Erin Bishop talked a lot, sharing life advice with Shannon Quinn along the way. Shannon was used to it and had learned a lot about life attitudes from Erin’s words.
The car arrived at the dim sum restaurant, where the man they were meeting was already sitting at the reserved table, alongside a middle-aged woman who looked like his mother.
Shannon Quinn followed Erin Bishop over, and Erin greeted them politely: "Hello, you must be Mr. Miller, right?"
The man looked up, adjusted his glasses, and quickly stood up to shake hands with Erin: "Yes, yes, Aaron Shaw. Hello, please have a seat."
The man was short and quite thin, with a side-parted hairstyle, slightly crooked teeth, and a bit of a speech impediment.
Erin Bishop felt he wasn’t her type at all, but she sat down out of politeness.
"And this is..." The woman looked at Shannon Quinn and asked with a smile.
Erin immediately said: "My cousin, who came along with me."
The woman and the man exchanged a glance, as if plotting something, and then the woman said: "I heard Miss Bishop runs a company?"
"Just a small business."
"Being a woman and doing business, it’s not easy, is it? Are you usually very busy? If you get married, will you have time to take care of the family? Also, my son isn’t young anymore, and you don’t seem to be either. If you get married, I hope you’ll have a child soon, then..."
"Auntie, that’s a bit presumptive, isn’t it?" Erin interrupted the woman. Hearing this, she wanted to flee immediately. What did she mean, she’s not young?
"Auntie, let me tell you my conditions. First of all, I don’t want to live with parents after marriage, so you’d better have a house in Southcrest for convenience. Also, I’m the only daughter in my family. My mom said the bride price should be 880,000 for good luck, and other than that..."
"Miss, are you here for a blind date or a robbery? If we had a house in Southcrest and could afford 880,000, do you think my son would still be unmarried?" The woman stood up and said, "Son, let’s go."
"Mom... let’s at least talk it out."
The woman then said to Erin Bishop: "No wonder you can’t get married! Almost thirty and still demanding, you’re lucky someone even wants to marry you!"
Erin Bishop didn’t argue with her. Watching them leave while muttering insults, she suddenly felt relieved.
Shannon Quinn said beside her: "Did you bring me here to learn how to handle blind dates?"
"Exactly, I was being polite to her, did you see how frustrating she was? She opened her mouth and said I’m not young, but women bloom at thirty, and I’m not even thirty yet!"
"Those things you said about the bride price and the house, were they really your family’s demands?"
"I was just making stuff up. My mom is eager to marry me off, she’d take any man, let alone ask for a bride price. I think if two people are compatible, material wealth isn’t a problem; just work hard together. It’s just those men who are incompetent yet accuse others of being gold diggers, poor yet stagnant, that I can’t stand."
Shannon Quinn rarely considered these things and hadn’t experienced much. When she thought of marriage before, she felt numb, just taking things one day at a time.
Regarding love and marriage, her concept was blank.
The love portrayed on TV is different from reality.
"Ding dong" Her phone on the table suddenly buzzed. Shannon Quinn glanced over and, seeing the long string of numbers, immediately sat up, her nerves on edge.
Then she tried to act nonchalantly, picked up the phone, and opened the text: So eager to find someone new?
Shannon was momentarily stunned, then looked around, seeing no one suspicious.
How did Vincent Rhodes know?
Guessing he misunderstood, Shannon replied: Here with a friend, not for a blind date.
After waiting for a while with no reply, Shannon sighed and put down her phone, regretting that she had responded at all. It always ended up this way.
"Mae called again." Erin Bishop shrugged helplessly and put the call on speaker: "Mae, got a new match for me?"
"My dear, I’ve arranged almost everything suitable at the matchmaking agency for you. Are you trying to pick a flower here?"
"Mae, the introductions are getting more ridiculous, aren’t they? They talk about having kids right at the meeting. Is this how a blind date works?"
"Mrs. Miller also called me back earlier. She asked about a cousin of yours. Is your cousin single? She seems interested in her."
Erin Bishop and Shannon Quinn exchanged glances, then couldn’t help but laugh. Erin said: "Mae, if I can’t tolerate them, do you think my cousin is stupid? Besides, my cousin just entered her twenties; she can find anyone she wants, why go for that old mama’s boy? Tell her to forget it."
"I’m just asking, so I have something to report back. I just registered another one who’s 32, looks decent in the photo, a programmer. Want to exchange contacts and meet up when convenient?"
Erin Bishop was silent for two seconds, as if pondering, then said: "Alright, tell him to come by now; I’m still at the restaurant, can save on a meal."
"Okay, I’ll call him now."
"Oh, by the way, Mae, if you have any young guys in their twenties, keep an eye out for me. I’m looking on behalf of my cousin."
Shannon Quinn, who was eating breakfast and minding her own business, almost spat out her soy milk when she heard that.
She could still hear Mae on the other end saying: "There are plenty of those in their twenties. If you have time this afternoon, you can come to the agency and take a look."
"Alright, I’ll call you when we come by this afternoon."
Erin Bishop seemed quite pleased with the arrangement and hung up, while Shannon Quinn complained: "Why are you dragging me into this?"
"What do you mean dragging you into this? I’m helping you. I know you just haven’t taken that step yet. I was resistant when I started doing blind dates, but later I found it quite interesting, seeing all kinds of people."
Shannon Quinn couldn’t conveniently say the truth, so she just used an excuse: "I... I haven’t planned on marrying so soon."
"Who said going on blind dates means you have to get married? It’s just to see how things go, make some friends. Plus, you’ve never even dated, so you need to gain some experience."
Shannon Quinn didn’t know how to explain, and by afternoon, she found herself, somewhat dazed, accompanying Erin Bishop to the matchmaking agency.
