CHAPTER 36: CHAPTER 36: HAD A FIGHT WITH YOUR HUSBAND?

Shannon Quinn felt that Vincent Rhodes seemed somewhat unfamiliar tonight, or perhaps she had never truly known him.

Previously, she thought he was the type of person who remained calm and collected, handling any situation with ease. However, tonight he seemed emotional, even somewhat unreasonable and petty.

She clearly felt aggrieved by the situation, yet he placed all the blame on her.

"Has anyone ever told you that you’re selfish?" Vincent asked.

"You’re the first," she replied.

"We’ve been married for two years, and you’ve never fulfilled the duties of a husband, yet you’re so harsh in your demands of me. You say I’m wrong for not publicly admitting we’re married, but how do you expect me to acknowledge it?" Shannon took a deep breath, continuing, "I say I’m married, but when people ask about my husband, I respond that I’ve been married for two years yet don’t even know what my husband looks like?"

"You don’t want the trouble my presence could cause you, and I also wish to live my life peacefully without the turmoil of the false identity as the Rhodes Family’s Young Madam disturbing my peace!"

After a brief silence, Vincent finally said, "Is this your justified reason for going out on dates with other men?"

"I’ve already explained, whether you believe it or not is your choice."

Shannon knew there were aspects of this matter where she was at fault, but why did he pin all the blame on her?

In the darkness, she heard the man take a deep breath, saying, "The explanation is yours to give, but don’t let me find out about it happening again."

At first, Shannon hadn’t felt overly wronged, initially feeling somewhat guilty, but Vincent’s tone made her very resistant.

After saying so much, she hadn’t hoped he would open up about his concealed matters, just wished he would at least apologize, yet he still maintained an attitude as if he had done nothing wrong.

She took a deep breath, not saying anything further to him.

He said nothing either, yet delayed leaving. Shannon set the alarm on her phone, lifted the quilt, and lay down with her back to him.

"Is your injury healed?" After a long while, he spoke again.

Shannon moodily replied, "That’s my problem."

She heard him take a breath, but couldn’t see his expression or know what he was thinking.

Soon, he vanished into the darkness.

The lights in the room turned on, and Shannon flipped over in some frustration, covering her head with a pillow.

Sometimes she felt Vincent was quite caring, buying her a car and sending medicine twice, but more often, she felt he was a selfish man.

She perceived that he never considered things from her perspective, always able to push the blame onto her no matter the situation.

He even forbade her from having any opinion of him, having reminded her more than once that he had bought her for a high price.

Perhaps to him, she should obediently be a commodity without thoughts or soul.

Thinking about this, Shannon felt it might be better if he never appeared, at least no one would interfere with her life.

The next day, it began raining, seemingly having started from last night.

This kind of rainy day made Shannon feel even more depressed inside.

In the morning, she only drank a glass of milk, then packed her things and left.

Whether it was a coincidence or not, as she stepped out, the door beside hers opened, and Landon Sutton walked out from inside.

He seemed surprised for a moment, then said, "Morning."

Shannon remained silent, not wanting to acknowledge Landon. Feeling already upset, she had even less desire to talk to him.

With her head down, she walked into the elevator where he stood beside her. There were other people in the elevator too, but nobody spoke.

At the B1 floor, Shannon stepped out first, with Landon following behind. She took two steps for every one of his, covering the distance easily, "Arguing with your husband?"

Shannon adjusted the slipping strap of her shoulder bag, quickening her pace.

"A small quarrel between a young couple is normal, don’t let it upset you," Landon advised.

Shannon still ignored him, acted as if he didn’t exist, took out her car keys, opened the car door, bent down to get into the driver’s seat, ready to drive away, but Landon suddenly reached out, holding her car door, preventing her from closing it.

"What the hell do you want?!" Shannon appeared somewhat angry, clearly releasing the pent-up frustration from Vincent onto Landon.

Landon only chuckled, saying, "If life becomes unbearable, you might as well be with me."

Shannon took a deep breath, seemingly calming herself, then turned to Landon and said, "I have a spare tire in this car, I don’t need anyone!"

"The car doesn’t need one, but you do," he replied.

Shannon felt her words were harsh; anyone else might have walked away long ago, yet Landon’s thick skin continued to cling stubbornly.

"It’s a waste of talent; is President Sutton’s spare tire something no one dares to use?"

"We’ve already slept together, so what does it matter whether they dare or not?"

"Shut up! Let go!"

"Drive safely, and don’t lose your temper so early in the morning." Saying this, Landon casually closed her car door for her.

Shannon immediately started the car, didn’t look at him, and drove away.

As he watched her car disappear from view, the smile on Landon’s face also faded as he sighed.

Although she had already explained why she attended the matchmaking yesterday, Landon still felt unsettled.

He feared the day she truly met someone she considered suitable, and would demand a divorce, disliking neither Vincent nor Landon.

He wished to have more contact with her, to have opportunities to speak more, yet she wouldn’t even look at him.

A buzzing sound came from his pocket, shaking Landon from his thoughts.

Landon glanced at his phone, frowned, and answered the call.

Not knowing what was said on the other end, he simply responded with a brief "Hmm," then quickened his pace and drove off, evidently having something urgent.

Meanwhile, Shannon’s car was still on the road when she received a text message. With her phone in her bag and busy driving, she didn’t read it until she arrived at her studio.

Initially thinking it might be from Vincent again, she was surprised to see it was from an unfamiliar number. After reading the content, she knew who it was.

The message read: I’m heading out, might return in a few days; someone will deliver the keys to your studio later, please take care of the cat.

Reading the message, Shannon frowned slightly, wondering if Landon Sutton was up to something again?
