CHAPTER 382: CHAPTER 382: DEPENDING ON YOUR BEHAVIOR, DEPENDING ON MY MOOD

Seeing Skylar Vance’s evasiveness and the genuine fear in her eyes, Shawn Rhodes halted his steps, not wanting to create more psychological shadows for her.

"Do you think you have any chance with him?" Shawn asked.

Skylar kept a safe distance from him and replied, "I think that’s none of your concern."

Shawn chuckled lightly, lowering his head, "Indeed, it’s not my concern. You’re the one scorned by others, not me. In the end, I still count as a victim of this marriage."

Skylar wasn’t concerned about who was the so-called victim in this marriage. She believed it was their own choice, whether voluntary or not; none of them was entirely innocent.

After the divorce, regardless of the consequences, they would individually bear them, and she had no intention of arguing over who was right or wrong to end it.

She had already prepared herself psychologically for the aftermath of choosing Simon Rhodes.

"So when do you plan to divorce?" Skylar asked tentatively.

Shawn smiled and sat back down on the sofa, "Depends on your performance, depends on my mood."

Skylar chuckled along, "Alright, I’m not in a rush. Just worrying that when that someone’s child is born, it might just end up a bastard."

After saying that, Skylar turned and went back to her room.

Shawn irritably grabbed the glass of wine he had poured for her earlier and downed it in one gulp.

Skylar returned to her room and moved a stool from the dressing table to brace against the door.

She was a bit scared, wondering what unreasonable action Shawn might take after drinking.

Early the next day, Mrs. Rhodes arrived.

Skylar was awakened by the noise of the car outside, and out of courtesy, she got up and planned to go out to greet her.

When she walked to the door, she realized there were signs of movement in the chair she had propped against the door the night before.

It had only been moved a short distance, probably Shawn had tried to get into the room, found the obstruction, and closed the door again.

However, the chair could only add some force to the door, if he really wanted to enter, he could easily push open the door with a bit of strength.

Based on his previous temperament, it was possible he might have even overturned the chair, but last night he indeed hadn’t come in.

No time to analyze his changes in recent days, she opened the door and greeted Mrs. Rhodes, "Mom, you’re here so early?"

Mrs. Rhodes smiled warmly, "I brought breakfast for you both. I intended to let you sleep a bit longer, but I seem to have woken you up too. Since you’re up, just freshen up and come out for breakfast."

Skylar nodded, but as she turned to go into the room, Mrs. Rhodes’s expression suddenly darkened, asking them, "Why is Skylar still sleeping downstairs? Are you still sleeping in separate rooms?"

Skylar froze, as she hadn’t thought of an explanation yet, but Shawn said, "Didn’t I tell you before? Skylar likes the downstairs room, so I moved down to stay with her."

Mrs. Rhodes then smiled knowingly, "Oh, my memory is getting worse, I forgot about that."

Skylar breathed a sigh of relief, went back to her room for a quick wash, and came out to have the breakfast Mrs. Rhodes brought.

During breakfast, Mrs. Rhodes naturally gave sincere and earnest advice again.

Speaking of divorce, Skylar was quite reluctant to part with Mrs. Rhodes.

She felt they were treating the elderly unfairly in their current state. Mrs. Rhodes always treated her very well, considering Skylar as her own daughter, and always gave Shawn a hard time without blaming Skylar.

Yet she had been deceiving the elderly all this time. When the divorce comes, the one who’ll be most upset would probably be Mrs. Rhodes.

Skylar took a deep breath, thinking that Mrs. Rhodes had always hoped for a grandchild. Perhaps when she learned that Rowan Alder was carrying Shawn’s child, the elderly lady would be happy too.

Her belongings were already packed beforehand, Shawn had clothes there too, so she didn’t take any spare clothes, only some work-related documents. After breakfast, she left with Mrs. Rhodes to return to the Rhodes Family home.

The room arranged for her was Shawn’s old room, but despite its size, there was only one bed.

Skylar began worrying about sleeping arrangements at night, but she believed Shawn would surely figure it out.

He loved Rowan Alder so much; naturally, he wouldn’t do anything to betray her.

He cleared half of the wardrobe for her, and Skylar made a show of hanging her clothes from the luggage inside.

After tidying up, Shawn drove her to work.

Skylar thought he would drop her at the corner, but Shawn drove straight to her company’s entrance.

In the parking spot outside, she immediately noticed Simon Rhodes’s car.

Skylar glanced at Shawn, uncertain if he had seen it, and felt anxious as she got out of the car.

Seeing Shawn also stepping out, Skylar looked at him with puzzled eyes.

Shawn circled around the car and stopped in front of Skylar, who raised her head and gazed at him full of confusion.

Suddenly, he reached out and held Skylar’s head, and even though she instinctively dodged, she couldn’t avoid his kiss landing on her brow.

Just as Skylar realized what he was doing, wanting to push him away, he had already released her and smiled briefly before turning back to the car and driving away.

Skylar was puzzled by his inexplicable actions until she caught sight of Simon Rhodes through the shop’s glass window, instantly understanding Shawn’s intentions.

It was deliberate.

Though perhaps Simon wouldn’t blame her, entering the premises to face Simon, Skylar felt a bit guilty.

From the moment she stepped inside, Simon’s gaze was fixed on her, making it hard for her to pretend not to see.

Skylar hesitated and eventually sat down across from Simon Rhodes.

He said nothing, lowered his eyes, and opened a bag beside him, taking out a breakfast box and handing it to her.

Skylar lifted the lid, reaching to take the spoon he passed over.

Though she had eaten breakfast, not feeling hungry, she didn’t want to disappoint Simon’s thoughtful gesture.

Especially after Shawn’s earlier actions, she dared not meet Simon’s eye directly.

Lowering her head while eating the still-warm pastries in the box, a flash of white passed before her eyes.

As she raised her head to check, a force pressed her head down.

Lifting her gaze at the same moment, a sharp pain came from her brow, and she saw him holding a tissue, forcefully wiping the spot Shawn had touched.

Skylar felt her brow was rubbed red, and even the makeup powder applied in the morning was likely wiped clean off.

But she dared not utter a single word of complaint, and when he let go, Skylar quietly touched her forehead and adjusted her bangs.

Watching him toss the tissue disdainfully into the trash can by his feet.
