CHAPTER 385: CHAPTER 385: I MIGHT HAVE FALLEN FOR YOU

"Shaw is back?" Mrs. Rhodes called out upon hearing, coming out of the living room.

Susan Wilde glanced at Shawn Rhodes guiltily and then smiled and nodded at Mrs. Rhodes, bending down to change into slippers.

Mrs. Rhodes came over, noticing Susan Wilde’s hair was slightly damp, and immediately said, "You child, coming home so late and not calling Shaw to pick you up? What if you catch a cold from the rain?"

Susan Wilde: "I saw it was so late and Shaw was also tired from work, so I just took a taxi home myself."

Mrs. Rhodes: "Go take a hot shower first, I’ll heat up some soup, drink some hot soup after you’re done."

Susan Wilde nodded, glanced at Shawn Rhodes, and hesitantly walked upstairs, with Shawn following her to his room.

Susan Wilde took out her pajamas from the wardrobe, stealing glances at Shawn Rhodes several times in the process.

He seemed to be holding back anger, but he kept his face expressionless and didn’t say much.

After she found her clothes, he went over to the bathroom to show her how to get hot water, where the shampoo was, which bottle was the shower gel.

Susan Wilde looked at him as if he was a monster, wondering if Mrs. Rhodes installed cameras in the room, forcing Shawn to be so considerate and attentive.

After closing the bathroom door, Susan Wilde carefully scanned the room, doubting anyone would be so twisted as to install a camera in the bathroom, right?

But Shawn’s strange behavior puzzled her.

Soaking in the bathtub, immersed in warm water, leaning against the tub’s edge, she relaxed and enjoyed it.

She faintly heard voices outside the room, it seemed Shawn was on a phone call with someone.

Couldn’t hear what was said, but from Shawn’s tone, their conversation didn’t seem pleasant.

Since she wasn’t home alone, even though the bath was enjoyable, Susan Wilde didn’t linger too long, rinsed off, put on pajamas, and headed out.

When she pushed open the bathroom door, she saw Shawn sitting by the bed, head down, looking at his phone, looking troubled.

She didn’t ask if something was wrong with Shawn, she just silently picked up the hair dryer he left by the bedside, plugged it in, and dried her wet hair.

Among the buzzing hum of the hairdryer, she seemed to hear Shawn say something but couldn’t make it out clearly.

She turned off the hairdryer and asked him, "What did you just say?"

Shawn stared at her for two seconds and said mildly, "Nothing, just dry yourself and come down."

Mrs. Rhodes had made a soup with unknown herbs, it smelled rich, and Susan Wilde drank two bowls, warming her body.

"Alright, I’ll clean up, you two rest quickly, you have to work early tomorrow."

Susan Wilde: "Mom, you should rest early too."

As soon as she finished speaking, Shawn grabbed her wrist, pulling her upstairs.

As soon as the door closed, Susan Wilde broke free from his hand, looking at the only bed in the room, she asked, "How do we sleep?"

Shawn said, "We sleep together."

Susan Wilde: "Are you kidding? If Miss Dixon finds out, she’d flay me alive."

Shawn gave a cryptic smile and said, "Don’t forget, you’re my wife, sharing a bed with me is only natural, isn’t it?"

Susan Wilde: "Everyone might think it’s natural, but we know our twisted affairs well. We’ve been married for so long and you’ve kept yourself pure for your Miss Dixon, aren’t you going to break your own rules tonight?"

Shawn chuckled, stepping closer, "Why not?"

Susan Wilde was startled, instinctively retreated a bit, though she felt he was only joking with her, recalling his actions towards her that day made her think some actions were indeed possible from him.

After avoiding him a bit, Susan Wilde feigned calmness and told him, "I’m putting this out there, if I get pregnant, I absolutely won’t get a divorce, and then your Miss Dixon will only ever hold a dishonored identity, and the child in her belly will only grow up to be a despised illegitimate child."

Shawn lightly chuckled, lowered his eyes, turned away, sat on the bed, pointed at the European-style chaise by the window, "You’re small, you should fit there."

Susan Wilde turned her head to look at the narrow chair, she could sleep there, but would definitely not sleep comfortably.

But compared to sharing the bed with him, comfort was a lesser concern.

She walked over, rolled up the thin quilt from the bed, took a pillow, walked to the chaise, and curled herself to lie down.

The chair wasn’t wide, if she turned at night carelessly, she’d fall off.

Shawn glanced at her, said nothing, reached out and turned off the room’s light.

Susan Wilde’s eyes blinked in the darkness, she closed them, preparing to generate sleepiness.

Suddenly, from somewhere in the room came a "beep" sound.

The familiar text alert immediately pulled Susan Wilde out of sleepiness; considering Shawn was also in the room, she hesitated on the sofa for a few seconds.

During her hesitation, the text tone rang out again.

In the dark, Susan Wilde glanced at Shawn and then lifted the quilt, using the dim light from outside the window, found her purse by the dressing table, fished her phone out and quietly returned to the sofa.

As expected, the text was from Simon Rhodes, letting her know he got home safely, asking if she was asleep.

Though these questions were mundane, Susan Wilde’s heart subtly pounded.

Any message from him would make her heart race.

"Hate that the person in the room is me and not him?"

While Susan Wilde was replying to the text, Shawn’s voice suddenly sounded in the quiet room.

Realizing what he meant, she imitated his way of speaking, "Do you resent that you’re in a room with me and not her?"

Shawn chuckled, and Susan Wilde didn’t pay attention to what his laughter meant, she continued typing her reply to Simon Rhodes’s text.

After several seconds, Shawn said again, "If from the moment we married, I started managing this marriage well with you, do you think we’d have an outcome?"

Susan Wilde frowned, turned to look at him in the darkness, puzzled by his sudden question, and replied logically, "Any outcome wouldn’t be good, we’re not the same kind of people."

Shawn: "That’s what I originally thought too."

Susan Wilde sat up from the sofa, and looking in his direction said, "I feel you’ve been quite strange these past couple of days."

Shawn: "Am I strange?"

Susan Wilde tentatively asked, "What’s up? Regretful about divorcing me?"

Shawn suddenly reached out and turned on the room’s light, in the brightness, met her eyes, Susan Wilde felt somewhat uncomfortable.

Evading his glance, she picked up her phone to disguise her awkwardness.

"I might have started liking you."

His voice was gentle, like a murmur.

But Susan Wilde heard it clearly.

Surprised, she looked up at him, then smiled, "Stop joking, okay? If there’s something you want to say, just say it, no need to use this trick to get close to me."
