My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 390: Get Lost Now
CHAPTER 390: CHAPTER 390: GET LOST NOW
The soundproofing of the hospital room is excellent, once the door is closed, it’s very quiet.
Susan Wilde sat by the bed, looking at the sky where the sun had just risen.
Having walked through the gates of death, it was like a rebirth for her.
Surviving gave her a new perspective on life.
She used to be afraid of the forbidden relationship with Simon Rhodes and didn’t dare to be with him.
When she thought her life was about to end, her greatest regret was that she hadn’t properly expressed her feelings to Simon Rhodes.
Given a second chance by God, she would pursue what she wanted more bravely than before.
Simon Rhodes, worried about her being alone in the ward, didn’t run to her favorite rice noodle shop, but instead packed breakfast from a nearby shop for her.
Although the taste wasn’t as good as her favorite place, she was hungry and ate heartily.
"Is it enough? If not, I can get you another bowl." Simon Rhodes asked with a smile as he watched her finish even the soup.
Susan Wilde wiped her mouth with a napkin and asked him, "Can I be discharged later?"
Simon Rhodes raised an eyebrow and said, "Looking at the way you gobbled that down, you should be able to."
Susan Wilde: "Then I want to go out for a good meal at noon."
Simon Rhodes: "Sure, I’ll take you for a good meal."
Susan Wilde suddenly thought of something and asked him, "Have you had breakfast?"
Simon Rhodes: "I thought you just woke up and wouldn’t be too hungry, so I planned to eat whatever you couldn’t finish, but you even drank the soup."
Susan Wilde laughed a little embarrassedly, "For a big boss like you of The Rhodes Group, you’re saving on a few dollars’ worth of soup?"
Simon Rhodes: "After all, if it goes on like this, I’ll need to save up for a wife and kids, how can I not save a bit?"
Susan Wilde understood the implication behind his words but pretended not to, lowered her head, and shifted the topic by asking him to clear away the boxes on the table.
...
In the vast bedroom, the curtains were tightly drawn, letting in only a dim light.
Shannon Quinn sat in the armchair by the window, holding a magazine, occasionally flipping the pages, her gaze wandering, appearing a bit distracted.
She was getting antsy from being cooped up at home, feeling that her body was fine, but Catherine Yardley insisted she stay in for a month before she could go out.
Every day she was pampered with good food and drink; she didn’t want to step on the scale to see how much weight she’d gained.
"Ding dong——"
The doorbell rang, and Shannon Quinn immediately put down the book and ran over to open the door.
Thinking it was Susan Wilde or Erin Bishop coming to keep her company, she was surprised to find a man standing outside.
Shannon Quinn looked him up and down, "Why are you here?"
Seth Fairchild gave her a smile, "Feeling better?"
Shannon Quinn: "What do you want?"
Seth Fairchild lifted the box in his hand, "A friend sent me bird’s nest soup, which is useless to me. I thought it might be a good way to help you nourish your body, so I brought it over."
Shannon Quinn glanced at the box in his hand and asked suspiciously, "Is it expired?"
Seth Fairchild: "Do you really think so little of me?"
Shannon Quinn: "Then why didn’t you save it for June Yardley?"
Seth Fairchild was slightly taken aback but didn’t explain much, simply saying, "She doesn’t like it."
Shannon Quinn contemplated, unable to figure out Seth’s motive. Seeing that he seemed to be genuinely kind, she extended her hand to take the item from him, "Is there anything else?"
Seth Fairchild raised an eyebrow and asked, "Aren’t you going to invite me in for a seat? You can’t even spare a glass of water for me?"
Shannon Quinn: "My mom’s not here, and I’m a patient myself, no one’s here to play host for you."
Seth Fairchild: "I can help myself."
Shannon Quinn: "I’m a married woman, being alone with you in a room might raise eyebrows with the neighbors."
Upon hearing this, Seth Fairchild laughed and said, "You’re a married woman, yet your husband hasn’t been home for so long; that’s what the neighbors will talk about."
Shannon Quinn had always felt that Seth Fairchild had a way of speaking that rubbed her the wrong way, and originally hadn’t planned to let him in. After what he said, she was even more reluctant: "If you’re okay, I’ll close the door. I need enough rest and don’t have time to chat."
Seth Fairchild appeared as if he wanted to say more, but Shannon Quinn unapologetically slammed the door shut with a "bang."
"You should eat less of the bird’s nest soup; you look like you gained weight."
Inside, Shannon Quinn shouted back, "Mind your own business, get lost!"
Seth Fairchild chuckled and turned to leave.
Shannon Quinn carried the bird’s nest soup inside, carefully inspecting the expiration date on the package and using a special app to translate the text on the box, making sure there were no harmful ingredients and that it hadn’t been tampered with, before dispelling her suspicions of Seth Fairchild.
Actually, it’s not that she didn’t trust Seth Fairchild’s character; she knew he wouldn’t resort to such petty tricks.
However, given Seth Fairchild’s close relations with June Yardley, even if she didn’t guard against him, she had to guard against June Yardley.
Especially with Claire Yardley’s incident, she didn’t believe June Yardley would let it go so easily.
Perhaps she was waiting for Shannon Quinn to let her guard down and planning something behind her back.
Feeling bored at home, Shannon Quinn found it unbearable.
So, she asked Aidan Lockwood to assign her some work tasks to pass the time.
Recently, she’d heard from the work group that Aidan Lockwood seemed to have a girlfriend, but she wasn’t sure if it was true.
When Shannon Quinn asked him, he only said it was a high school classmate, not a girlfriend.
She wondered if perhaps they hadn’t progressed to that stage yet and Aidan was saying this to avoid any awkwardness, or if they were really just friends.
Shannon Quinn somewhat understood the concerns parents have about their grown-up single children, much like how she worried about Aidan Lockwood’s marriage.
Having known him for so many years, she had been married, divorced, and remarried, with her child already in primary school, yet she had never seen Aidan Lockwood date anyone.
The work group, meanwhile, frequently buzzed with gossip.
Back when Shannon Quinn was around, there were rumors about her and Aidan Lockwood. After she left, the gossip changed almost daily.
As long as a woman appeared by Aidan’s side, the young ladies in the work group could write ten-thousands-of-words long romance novels about it.
Upon receiving the design drafts assigned by Aidan Lockwood, Shannon Quinn finally had something to occupy her time.
Having not picked up a pencil in a while, she looked at the white paper before her, uncertain where to begin.
In the whole afternoon, she only managed to sketch out a rough diagram, and she wasn’t satisfied with it.
This left Shannon Quinn feeling a bit frustrated.
When Leo came back from school, he immediately ran to Shannon’s room saying, "Mom, Grandma bought you something delicious!"
Shannon put down her pencil, turned to Leo with a smile, and asked, "What did you learn at school today?"
Leo mumbled, "You wouldn’t understand even if I told you."
Shannon: "I can handle primary school problems."
Leo: "The last time you told me a solution, I got it wrong, I was the only one in class who missed it."
Shannon: "That was because Mommy didn’t read the question properly."
Leo: "If Dad was here..."
Halfway through his sentence, Leo stopped, both his and Shannon’s smiles froze for a moment before Leo quickly changed the subject, "Come eat before it gets cold and doesn’t taste good."
