CHAPTER 434: CHAPTER 434: I NEVER EVEN MINDED YOU

Simon Rhodes reached out to lift her chin, raising her head and asked her, "Did Grandpa talk to you before?"

Skylar Vance pursed her lips in silence, without uttering a word she already gave Simon Rhodes an answer.

"I should have thought of this earlier."

"But it wasn’t Grandpa who drove me away, he just came to analyze the pros and cons with me, the decision was mine."

"That old fox can only bluff you like that."

"It’s not because Grandpa doesn’t like me that I left, I just felt I was causing you too much trouble. Although you never complained about me, I could see it."

Simon Rhodes: "Now it’s fine, everything has been made clear, Grandpa has no objections, as long as you come back with me. Even if there are more problems in the future, we will solve them together, okay? Don’t leave me saying it’s for my own good anymore, as long as you’re by my side, any problem is not a problem."

Skylar Vance: "Really? Grandpa has no objections? Didn’t he just find you a date?"

Simon Rhodes: "What he does is his business, I didn’t agree, and I told him, I won’t marry anyone other than you. His tricks only work on you, not on me."

Skylar Vance pouted: "But what if Grandpa gets upset?"

Simon Rhodes smiled, stroking her belly: "If there’s something going on here, how could the old man not be happy?"

"He just likes children, still doesn’t like me."

"It’s enough that I like you."

Skylar Vance snuggled in his arms, unable to suppress a smile.

With him by her side, even dreams were beautiful.

At night he had a fever, perhaps because of the rain he was caught in during the day.

Skylar Vance awoke from her sleep, feeling as if there was a ball of fire burning in the bed.

She turned on the bedside lamp and looked at him lying beside her, his brows furrowed with a light sweat on his forehead.

She got up and rummaged through the desk drawer for fever reducers, wrung out a towel to wipe the sweat from his forehead, and called softly: "Simon, get up and take your medicine before going back to sleep."

Simon Rhodes groggily opened his eyes to look at her, probably not clear if he was dreaming or not, he mumbled something and closed his eyes again.

Skylar Vance struggled to support him up from the bed, stuffed the medicine into his mouth, and poured water after it.

He was half-awake, not knowing what was going on but cooperating while taking the medicine.

Skylar Vance sat by the bed, using her phone to search online for ways to reduce fever.

She repeatedly wiped his forehead and palms with a warm towel.

After busying herself until after five, his temperature finally went down and Skylar Vance breathed a sigh of relief.

Skylar Vance lay by the bed, just closing her eyes when she heard a weak voice say: "Are you worn out?"

"Oh, so you know?"

Simon Rhodes smiled, taking her hand and said: "I’ve been in a daze but I knew you’ve been taking care of me."

"Do you feel better now?"

"Much better, just a bit thirsty."

Hearing this, Skylar Vance immediately got up to fill a cup with warm water from the water dispenser, handed it over, and he tilted his head back and drank it all.

"Do you want more?"

Simon Rhodes placed the empty cup on the bedside table, then pulled her hand: "The sky is still dark, let’s sleep a bit more."

Skylar Vance smiled, kicked off her slippers, climbed onto the bed, lying back by his side, snuggled into his arms, but said with a disdainful face: "You smell sweaty."

"Do I?"

Skylar Vance was too tired to care about cleanliness, resting on his arm, she quickly fell asleep.

Since the store opens at eight, Skylar Vance only slept for two or three hours before the alarm clock woke her.

Fighting sleepiness, she crawled out of bed, yawning as she opened the door.

The rain hadn’t stopped, the ground was damp and it felt a bit chilly.

Skylar Vance shivered, wrapping her coat tighter around her.

Feeding the cat, watering the flowers, cleaning while preparing breakfast.

Just as she was about to go upstairs to call Simon Rhodes for breakfast, she bumped into him coming down.

He had taken a shower, his hair still wet, wearing the set of clothes she had lent him, because she had washed his clothes last night and in this damp cold weather, they hadn’t dried yet.

"There shouldn’t be many customers in the morning, right? Why not sleep a bit more?"

Skylar Vance motioned with her chin towards the cats strutting around the room, saying: "I had to get up to serve these guys."

Simon Rhodes frowned and looked around, asking her: "What do you need to do?"

Skylar Vance: "I’ve done it all, come and have breakfast, it’s vegetable porridge, something light."

Simon Rhodes smiled, reaching out to take the spoon she offered, tasted the porridge in the bowl, and said: "You’re becoming more and more domestic."

"I’ve always been domestic, haven’t I?"

"Stop pushing your luck."

Skylar Vance chuckled, picked up her sandwich and sat across from him, taking a big bite.

Simon Rhodes put down the spoon, frowned, and asked her: "Why don’t I have one?"

Skylar Vance: "You’re sick and need a light diet, be a good boy and drink your porridge. There’s another bowl over there, finish it and it’s your lunch for today."

Without a word, Simon Rhodes stood up, grabbed her hand holding the sandwich, took a big bite, then nonchalantly sat back in his seat, satisfied and began chewing.

Skylar Vance frowned, looking at her sandwich, now half missing, and looked at Simon Rhodes with grievance: "Did you even brush your teeth?"

Simon Rhodes: "No."

"Ugh, disgusting."

Simon Rhodes swallowed, took a sip of porridge joyfully, and said to her with a smile: "Just kidding, I brushed them."

Skylar Vance rolled her eyes, resumed munching her sandwich.

Then she heard Simon Rhodes leisurely add: "I used your toothbrush."

"Poof!" Skylar Vance nearly choked.

"Why such a big reaction? I didn’t mind you."

"Really, Simon, how did you become so slovenly?"

Simon Rhodes: "How is this slovenly? I at least brushed my teeth."

Skylar Vance found it both frustrating and amusing: "Didn’t I leave a new toothbrush in the cup for you? Didn’t you see?"

Simon Rhodes: "Really? Didn’t notice."

Skylar Vance stared at him for several seconds, disbelief in her eyes, then quickly "thump-thump-thump" ran upstairs to check the bathroom.

Thankfully, he was joking, he had opened the new toothbrush for him.

She knew her neat-freak couldn’t possibly use her toothbrush.

Yet he could lie so calmly, she wondered where he learned it from.

When she went downstairs, seeing him obediently drinking porridge, Skylar Vance said nothing, settled into the hammock chair by the bed, cradled a cat, and gradually fell asleep.

Simon Rhodes walked over and noticed, he wanted to call her upstairs to sleep but worried if he woke her she wouldn’t sleep, so he went upstairs to fetch a thin blanket, carefully covering her.

Then he sat at the table closest to the door, noticed two young girls chatting about to enter, he stepped out to tell them: "We’re not open yet, come back in the afternoon."
