My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 56: Mr. Sutton Is Looking for You
CHAPTER 56: CHAPTER 56: MR. SUTTON IS LOOKING FOR YOU
"Ding dong"
Hearing the doorbell, Shannon Quinn immediately put down the kitchen utensil in her hand, walked to the door to check the display screen, and although she guessed it might be Landon Sutton, she still felt a bit nervous.
I wiped the water off my hands on the apron and took a deep breath before opening the door.
"Is... there something you need?"
Landon Sutton smiled and handed her a box, saying, "A friend gave me some pastries. I’m not much into sweets, so why don’t you try them?"
Shannon Quinn glanced down at the exquisite bag in his hand, just the packaging alone already indicated it was quite expensive.
Seeing her remain silent, Landon Sutton added, "Don’t worry, I haven’t poisoned it."
"That’s not what I meant." Shannon Quinn quickly explained, "It’s just that your friend gave them to you, and I..."
"It’s fine, just take them. I’m in a rush to get to the office."
Seeing him lift his wrist to check his watch, seemingly in a hurry, Shannon Quinn hesitated before reaching out to accept the bag: "Thank you."
He just smiled and then turned the corner, heading towards the elevator.
Shannon Quinn withdrew her gaze, looked down at the bag in her hand, went inside, and opened it to take a look.
The box was covered in French, appearing to be a pastry brand from Eldoria. She didn’t know its price, but she tried one, and it was sweet but not cloying, very delicious.
Recalling the first time he brought her breakfast, even though it was from her favorite place, she ultimately threw it in the trash, and now thinking back, she felt she had been somewhat inconsiderate.
After breakfast, Erin Bishop drove and dropped Shannon Quinn off at the studio first.
The studio was as usual. Once work hours started, everyone was busy with their own tasks.
"Shannon, is the boss coming back today?"
"Today? I haven’t heard anything."
"Wasn’t it mentioned in the chat group?"
"Oh... I didn’t notice."
"You’re so close with the boss, he hasn’t called you to tell you?"
"If there’s nothing urgent, why would he call? He’ll return naturally when it’s time."
Yara Hughes clicked her tongue twice and leaned closer, regretfully asking, "Shannon, is there really no chance between you and the boss?"
Shannon Quinn glanced up and gave her a hard look, causing Yara Hughes to immediately back off a bit, still grinning as she said, "I’m just concerned about you. I heard from Assistant Griffin that the girl abroad is the boss’s classmate, not his girlfriend."
"Which Assistant Griffin?"
"The one the boss took on as an apprentice last year? The one who’s always in charge of the Westerland branch, Gary. He said every time the boss goes there, he’s only busy with work and doesn’t even meet that woman."
"You’re always hearing these things and not focusing on work. Instead, you should learn from the good habits of your seniors, not just gossip around."
"I’m just thinking about your future! Whether it’s Landon Sutton or the boss, if you snag either one, your latter half of life would be worry-free."
"Stop meddling in unnecessary things and go reorganize yesterday’s plans for me to review in the afternoon."
Yara Hughes pouted, muttered softly while walking away, "A woman who’s only into work won’t get married."
Shannon Quinn sighed deeply, truly feeling she wasn’t in a design company but a paparazzi agency.
Just as she picked up her pen and drew a couple of strokes, the desk phone rang, and the voice of the receptionist girl came through: "Shannon, Mr. Sutton is looking for you."
"Landon Sutton?"
"Yes, yes, yes."
Shannon Quinn slightly furrowed her brows, wondering why he came over again?
The previous rumors hadn’t settled down yet, and now it seemed another wave of them might start.
She stood up, tidying her clothes. After she became pregnant, she rarely wore business attire, nor high heels, opting mostly for casual dresses and flat casual shoes.
She had lost some of her professional edge, but gained a touch of gentle beauty.
When she arrived downstairs, she saw the receptionist girl beaming, serving tea and water politely.
Landon Sutton always had a gentlemanly demeanor. No matter when you saw him, he never seemed out of sorts.
Even when there was a fight last night, he didn’t have that air of unruliness.
"Mr. Sutton, how come you’re here?" Shannon Quinn sat across from him and started the conversation.
Landon Sutton took a sip of tea and said, "I have a business fashion exhibition coming up, and I wanted to discuss a collaboration with you. I wonder if Miss Quinn has time."
In the past, Shannon Quinn might have promptly said, "I don’t have time," but now she hesitated before saying, "Let’s hear it, Mr. Sutton."
Landon Sutton briefly introduced it, mainly inviting Shannon Quinn to contribute a few works.
Seeing his earnestness this time, and owing him a favor, she agreed.
She originally thought this would settle her debt to him, but then he said, "After all the help I gave you last night, won’t you at least treat me to a meal?"
Shannon Quinn chuckled awkwardly, thought for a moment, and said, "How about lunch?"
"I have a lunch meeting, let’s do dinner. I have a feeling you’re quite the cook, so let’s have it at your place. I’ll be back by around six."
Shannon Quinn wrinkled her brow in deliberation, wanting to say it might be inconvenient at home. If Vincent Rhodes suddenly came back and saw her having dinner with another man, she wouldn’t be able to explain it with a dozen mouths.
But before she could refuse, Landon Sutton stood up, saying, "I won’t keep you. I also have some things to attend to. I’ll call you this evening."
After speaking, he turned and left the store. Shannon Quinn glanced at the cup he had sipped from, took a thoughtful breath, and returned to her studio.
Many things seemed clear and straightforward at first, but now she couldn’t quite understand how they turned out like this.
She had clearly planned to keep a distance from Landon Sutton from the beginning, yet now she was about to invite him to her home for dinner.
But it was also a bit of her private intention, in case Jett Quinn came causing trouble again, she might still need Landon Sutton’s help.
With neighbors, keeping good relations was always important.
After work, she first went to the supermarket to pick up some fresh ingredients, detoured to Erin Bishop’s home to retrieve Landon Sutton’s cat, and when she drove back home, it was around five o’clock.
She didn’t pause and immediately began preparing the ingredients, wanting them to start dining as soon as Landon Sutton arrived.
She used to think that aside from Vincent Rhodes, she would never cook for another man.
Landon Sutton probably frequented high-end restaurants, accustomed to exquisite dishes, so she wondered if he would even appreciate her cooking.
She brought out her signature dishes, not wanting to be laughed at later.
"Ding dong"
Hearing the doorbell, Shannon Quinn quickly jogged over, worried that Jett Quinn was here to cause trouble again. She cautiously opened the display screen to check, and seeing Landon Sutton standing outside, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Glancing at the clock on the wall, it was only five-thirty; why was he back so early?
