My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 62: After Your Life?
CHAPTER 62: CHAPTER 62: AFTER YOUR LIFE?
The medical staff on the vehicle performed emergency treatment and stopped the bleeding for Landon Sutton, while also inquiring about Shannon Quinn’s condition.
She was uninjured, aside from being frightened.
Landon Sutton was pushed into the surgery room, leaving Shannon Quinn outside.
A doctor approached her, suggesting a check-up to see if she had internal injuries, but Shannon Quinn politely declined.
Firstly, she had not been hit, and secondly, she was worried that if she underwent a check-up, her pregnancy might be revealed to Landon Sutton.
Shannon Quinn was giving her statement, explaining what happened at the scene.
It wasn’t long before Ronan Rhodes and Erin Bishop arrived almost simultaneously, emerging one after the other from adjacent elevators.
"What happened to Master Nate?!"
"Are you okay?"
Their voices overlapped; Ronan was naturally concerned about Landon Sutton, while Erin Bishop was asking about Shannon Quinn.
Shannon Quinn looked at the two of them and just shook her head numbly.
Erin Bishop had already inquired about the situation and brought over some clean clothes, pulling Shannon Quinn aside, "Let’s change your clothes first, you don’t want to catch a cold."
Ronan Rhodes, seeing Shannon Quinn’s dazed expression, assumed she was also shaken. Knowing he might not get much from her, he approached the police officers who were still there to ask about the situation.
Erin Bishop took Shannon Quinn to the inpatient department downstairs, found an empty ward, and let Shannon take a shower.
Once changed and out of the shower, Shannon Quinn stepped out, and Erin Bishop was waiting outside for her.
"Finished washing?"
"Thank you, Rona." Hearing she was in trouble, Erin came running without a second thought, such a friend, Shannon Quinn thought she might only have this one.
"What’s there to thank for? Are you hurt? Should we check to make sure the baby is okay?"
Shannon Quinn shook her head, "I’m fine... When the car came, he pushed me away, or else it might be me lying in the surgery room now."
"I told you, Landon Sutton is quite a man; at critical moments, he’s willing to risk his life to protect you." Erin Bishop said, noticing Shannon Quinn’s low spirits and the uncertainty surrounding Landon Sutton’s condition while lying in the hospital room, coughed lightly, and changed the topic, "How did this happen?"
"I don’t know... but I feel it wasn’t an accident."
"Not an accident? Someone intentionally drove into you?"
Shannon recalled the scene when the incident occurred, "The car suddenly accelerated towards us, then drove off after hitting us."
"Was the person targeting you or Landon Sutton?"
"Do you remember that June Yardley I told you about?"
"I remember, could it be her? That’s a vicious move. Could she be targeting the baby inside you?!"
"Recently, I’ve had some conflicts with her, and this kind of thing is indeed something she might do, but she doesn’t know I’m pregnant."
"Could this crazy woman be after your life?! How brazen! Let’s wait for the investigation. There’s surveillance everywhere; she can’t possibly get away!"
Shannon Quinn pondered silently for a while and then said, "It might not be her either."
Before the incident, Jett Quinn had sent her some strange messages, but after the accident, her phone went silent, and she hadn’t received any more messages from him.
"Then who else could it be? Simon Rhodes’ enemies?"
Shannon Quinn pursed her lips and whispered, "Actually, when we were outside earlier, Jett Quinn sent me a few messages. I feel he was following me nearby, but I never found him. If it’s about what happened that night, it’s possible he could be seeking revenge on us."
And such reckless actions also seemed like something Jett Quinn would do.
"Outrageous! People like him should be locked up in prison! Shannon, don’t be afraid, the investigation results will come soon."
Shannon Quinn remained silent, her greatest worry was not who crashed into her or their motives, but rather, she was most concerned about Landon Sutton’s condition.
After all, he was injured saving her, and now, she had no idea how severe his injuries were or if there might be any life-threatening complications or long-term effects...
In that split second, there was no time to think, he instinctively pushed her away...
The "Surgery in Progress" sign remained lit, the tightly closed doors showed no signs of movement.
Erin Bishop sat outside the surgery room with Shannon Quinn, waiting. At this time, any words of comfort seemed futile; only seeing Landon Sutton walk out of the surgery room safe and sound could ease Shannon Quinn’s worries.
Ronan Rhodes, having understood the situation from the police, returned to the surgery room entrance, looked at Shannon Quinn waiting outside, fell silent, then walked over, "I’ve understood the situation; the police are also tracking the hit-and-run vehicle."
"... How is he?"
"Master Nate... I just asked the doctor, they said there’s no life-threatening danger, but his left leg is broken, he has multiple external injuries, and whether there are other internal injuries still needs to be determined from further tests."
Hearing that Landon Sutton was not in life-threatening danger, Shannon Quinn breathed a sigh of relief, but thinking about his usual noble and elegant demeanor now lying on the ground rain-soaked and barely breathing, she felt distressed and even a bit guilty.
"... I’m sorry."
"Hey, it’s not your fault, no need to apologize. It’s getting late, maybe you two should go back first. I’ll wait here; if you’re worried, just leave a contact number, and I’ll inform you of any updates."
Erin Bishop said nothing, only tilted her head to look at Shannon Quinn, letting her decide.
"No need, I’ll wait until he comes out."
Even if they asked her to leave now, she couldn’t rest easy.
The more she thought about it, the more she felt it was her selfishness that caused this. If she wasn’t worried about Jett Quinn causing trouble and hadn’t suggested going home, maybe none of this would have happened.
Night had fallen, the rain still hadn’t stopped, the hospital had fewer people than before, and the corridor was quiet, with only the occasional sound of Erin Bishop’s WeChat notifications and new messages.
Ronan Rhodes occasionally went to the smoking area to have a cigarette, then returned to wait by the surgery room door.
Shannon Quinn sat there with a blank expression, but her mind was wondering, where were Landon Sutton’s family?
So much time had passed since the accident, and aside from Ronan Rhodes arriving first, she hadn’t seen any of Landon Sutton’s relatives show up.
Had his family not been notified?
Thinking back, she’d known him for so long, and it seemed he never mentioned his family.
Lost in thought, her phone in the bag rang, startling Shannon Quinn. After a moment, she retrieved her phone from her bag, surprised that Simon Rhodes was calling her at this time.
"Hello... Big brother."
"Where are you?"
"At the hospital."
"Hospital? What happened?"
Thinking of his friendship with Landon Sutton, Shannon Quinn didn’t hide anything and told Simon Rhodes the truth.
Through the phone, she could tell Simon Rhodes was quite anxious, but his worries seemed to lean more towards Landon Sutton than Shannon Quinn.
