My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 68: The Green Hat
CHAPTER 68: CHAPTER 68: THE GREEN HAT
"What’s wrong? Not good?"
Shannon Quinn glared at him without answering and turned around to answer Aidan Lockwood’s call.
Perhaps Yara Hughes, the big mouth, had spread the news of her accident, since Aidan Lockwood knew too.
"I’m really fine," Shannon Quinn said to the person on the other end of the phone.
"If you’re fine, why are you in the hospital?"
Shannon Quinn glanced at Landon Sutton lying in the hospital bed and explained to the person on the phone, "Another friend who was with me that day got a bit hurt and is still in the hospital, but it’s nothing serious."
"Then I’ll come by to see you," Aidan Lockwood said before hanging up.
Shannon Quinn looked somewhat troubled, not wanting others, especially colleagues, to know about her connections with Landon Sutton.
Although Aidan Lockwood isn’t like Yara Hughes, who loves gossip and won’t share her private matters with others over tea, Shannon felt it was better for fewer people to know. She didn’t want to explain.
"Which man called?" Landon Sutton lay on the bed with eyes closed and spoke, his eyes still shut, making it seem like he was talking in his sleep.
Shannon Quinn looked at him, put away her phone unhurriedly, and replied, "What does it matter to you?"
Landon Sutton opened his eyes, glanced at her, and said sarcastically, "It’s none of my business. I just feel bad for Vincent Rhodes from the Rhodes Family, who wears a new green hat every day."
"What nonsense are you spouting?!"
"In front of me you act like a virtuous woman, but you have quite a few men around you."
Shannon Quinn frowned tightly, gearing up to argue with him, but seeing him lying in the bed, she restrained herself and deliberately said with a smile, "My husband doesn’t mind, why are you being a busybody?"
"So, you mean... your husband doesn’t mind me pursuing you?"
Shannon Quinn forced a smile and said, "My husband doesn’t mind; it shows I’m excellent when people pursue me, and he’s proud to have such a sought-after wife. But I mind! I have high standards, and I really don’t see you fitting them!"
"It’s not high standards, it’s heavy tastes. Vincent Rhodes from the Rhodes Family doesn’t dare show his face; who knows what kind of bizarre look he has. I’m afraid I can’t match your tastes."
"Who are you insulting?! You’re the bizarre one! My husband is much more handsome than you. He stays out of sight to avoid mortals like you from coveting his beauty. If you keep spreading rumors, I’ll complain to my husband, and you’ll be his first target!"
"Scared, scared indeed. I can’t afford to provoke Vincent Rhodes from the Rhodes Family," Landon Sutton said, yet closed his eyes fearlessly, clearly indifferent.
Shannon Quinn didn’t argue anymore and sent Aidan Lockwood a message to ask his location and sent him the hospital floor details, not wanting him to come to the ward.
Standing outside the corridor staring at the elevator direction, she ran to greet Aidan Lockwood as soon as he arrived.
"Professor Lockwood, I said it’s nothing, yet you still came."
Aidan Lockwood looked down at her and said, "I heard from Yara Hughes that you haven’t been going to the studio while I was abroad."
Shannon Quinn laughed: "I’ve had a lot to deal with recently. Though I haven’t been to the studio, none of my work has been delayed."
"I’m quite reassured with you. Just be careful and take care of your safety, especially considering this time it’s simply luck that nothing major happened."
Shannon Quinn smiled lightly without speaking, not mentioning Landon Sutton saved her. She looked at the fruit basket in Aidan Lockwood’s hand, pondering how to dismiss him when Aidan Lockwood asked, "Where’s your friend? Which room? I bought some fruit."
"Oh... He’s resting now. Why don’t you give me the fruit basket directly? I’ll pass it to him later."
Aidan Lockwood wasn’t clueless and looked at her briefly, asking, "What’s wrong? Afraid for me to see this friend?"
"...No."
"I heard it’s Landon Sutton, isn’t it?"
Seeing that he already knew, Shannon Quinn led Aidan Lockwood to the ward, muttering, "I knew anything said to Yara Hughes wouldn’t stay a secret, she’s like a loudspeaker."
Arriving at the ward, Landon Sutton lazily lifted his gaze when he heard the voice at the door. When he saw it was Aidan Lockwood following Shannon Quinn inside, his attention focused. If not for his body’s inconvenience, he might have sat up from the bed already.
"...This is my boss," Shannon Quinn quietly introduced Aidan Lockwood to Landon Sutton, noticing his unfriendly gaze.
Aidan Lockwood smiled, placed the fruit basket by the bedside, and politely said, "I heard Mr. Sutton got into some trouble because of Shannon, so I came to offer my regards."
Upon hearing Aidan Lockwood’s very natural use of "Shannon," Landon Sutton’s expression worsened, but he wasn’t some hot-headed youth either. He returned the courtesy with a fake smile, glanced at the fruit basket, and said, "Thank you for Mr. Lockwood’s kindness, but unfortunately, I don’t much like fruit."
"Surprisingly Mr. Sutton is picky about food, though they say the less one likes something, the more their body lacks it. Mr. Sutton should pay attention to balanced nutrition for a quicker recovery while bedridden."
Shannon Quinn worried that Landon Sutton might claim allergies to apples or bananas, hurried to ease the tension, saying, "The boss is right; Mr. Sutton, please care more for your health."
Landon Sutton sneered and didn’t argue further, turning his gaze to the window, his attitude clearly unfriendly.
Shannon Quinn knew Landon Sutton’s foul temper well and didn’t take it to heart. She was more concerned that Nathan Lockwood would be unhappy, considering he came from afar to see him only to receive a cold shoulder. Anyone would feel unpleasant.
"Boss, let’s chat outside and let him rest a bit."
Aidan Lockwood initially came for Shannon Quinn and had no intention to curry favor with Landon Sutton. He turned and followed Shannon Quinn out of the ward.
Landon Sutton then secretly glanced at the departing backs, seeing Shannon Quinn and Aidan Lockwood leave and the door closed behind them, he took a deep breath to ease his annoyance.
That Shannon Quinn!
"...Are you staying in the hospital to look after him?" Aidan Lockwood asked Shannon Quinn in the corridor outside the ward.
Shannon Quinn shook her head, explaining, "I have some responsibility for his accident. He came out of the operating room last night, and I came to see him this morning. The person responsible for looking after him had some matters to attend to, so I stayed here to help for a bit until they return and I can leave."
