CHAPTER 69: CHAPTER 69: TALKING ABOUT LOVE?

"Also, be careful. It’s been quite a while since you got your driver’s license, right? Be cautious while driving."

"Mm, I got it."

Aidan Lockwood in front of her seemed like an elder, and asked her, "So when might you return to the studio?"

At the mention of this, Shannon Quinn fell silent for a moment, as if she had made some decision. She looked up at him and said, "I was just planning to discuss this with you."

"What’s up?" Seeing Shannon suddenly become serious, Aidan Lockwood frowned slightly, looking a bit uneasy.

Shannon Quinn pursed her lips, seemingly unsure of how to start: "...I just want to say, I won’t be going back to the studio anymore. If you have work for me, just send it to me, and I’ll work on it from home. If that’s not feasible, I’m planning to resign for the time being, and if you still want to have me back in the future, I’ll return then."

"Why?" Shannon has been with him for so long, other companies even offered high prices to poach her, yet she remained loyal and never hesitated to work under him. Hearing her suddenly talk about resigning, Aidan felt a bit uneasy.

Shannon hesitated, thinking that she and Aidan were sort of like family now. It wouldn’t be long before she couldn’t hide this from him, so she might as well tell him the truth. In the future, he could perhaps give her advice.

"Actually, I’ve always lied to you..."

"Shannon!"

As she spoke halfway, Landon Sutton in the hospital room shouted, interrupting Shannon’s confession. She glanced toward the direction of the hospital room, then said to Aidan, "Maybe you should go back first, and I’ll come find you this afternoon."

Aidan was silent for two seconds, hearing Landon Sutton urging Shannon inside the room, "Alright, talk this afternoon."

"I’m going in now."

Aidan nodded, and as Shannon turned her back on him, he said, "Whatever happens, you can tell me. Even if I can’t help, I can give you advice."

Shannon paused, turning back to look at Aidan, smiled, and nodded, "Okay, thank you, teacher."

"Shannon! Are you deaf?!" As she pushed the door open, she heard Landon Sutton’s impatient voice.

"Are you in a hurry to pee or about to give birth? Even the pregnant women in the delivery room aren’t making as much noise as you."

Landon gave her a glance, looked behind her, and seeing that the man didn’t follow her in, his expression slightly softened. Then he pointed with his chin to the glass on the bedside table and said to her, "Pour me some water, I’m thirsty."

Shannon rolled her eyes, "You’re shouting so fiercely just to drink water? Did you eat sand in the desert to make yourself act like this?"

While talking, she still went over to get the glass and filled it with water.

Landon Sutton propped himself up slowly from the bed, stretched out his hand to take the glass. Although the temperature was just right, he didn’t drink it and set it aside. He asked her, "What were you talking about with that man?"

"None of your business."

"Were you getting all lovey-dovey?"

Shannon smiled and nodded, "Yep."

"Is Vincent Rhodes so easy to bully? Should I consider having a chat with him someday and asking him to give you to me?"

"Crazy!"

Last night when he was in the operating room, and even this morning when he arrived, Shannon thought she should treat him a little better in the future.

It’s said that people act based on instinct in moments of life and death, and the fact that he could push her away at that critical moment was touching for Shannon. She felt that this man wasn’t that annoying after all.

But now it seems, he might be more pleasant when unconscious. Once awake, hardly anything he said was agreeable.

Even if Shannon didn’t initially want to argue with him, she would end up cursing out of anger.

About two hours later, Ronan Rhodes returned.

Initially, Shannon Quinn thought she would try to spend more time with Landon, but now she couldn’t wait to gather her things and leave.

Landon Sutton didn’t stop her, just watched her back as she left, and let out a barely audible sigh.

After Shannon left, Ronan said to Landon, "Master Nate, there’s a new lead. I just went to the police station and found someone in the driver’s call records and bank transfers. Guess who."

Landon gave him a cold glance, clearly not in the mood to guess.

Ronan immediately said, "It’s Jett Quinn. Didn’t you have someone investigate him before? Could it be you have a grudge against him?"

Upon hearing this name, some of Landon’s suspicions seemed to be resolved.

Jett Quinn’s target was probably him, but he didn’t expect Jett to be so reckless, ignoring Shannon’s safety.

Initially, he thought this matter wasn’t that urgent. Now it seems he has to find a way to eliminate this threat sooner.

"Have you investigated him?"

"No, the driver refuses to admit that Jett hired someone to kill, and the Quinn Family has some influence too. It’s clear someone is protecting Jett, so the people in the bureau dare not intervene rashly."

Landon paused and said, "Alright, let’s leave it at that. Since the driver is willing to take the fall, let’s grant him his wish."

"And Jett Quinn? Are you just going to let him go?"

"I have my own plans."

Ronan was still worried as he looked at Landon, then cautiously asked, "How about... dealing with it cleanly?"

"No need." Jett Quinn, regardless of anything, is part of the Quinn Family. He wasn’t sure about his relationship with Shannon but getting rid of him might cause unnecessary trouble and might also drag Shannon into it.

Ronan hesitated to speak but seeing that Landon seemed to have a plan, he said no more.

Initially, Shannon planned to bring lunch for Landon, but seeing his state in the morning wasn’t as grave as imagined, and mostly because he was irritating, she didn’t see why she should bother serving someone without even a "thank you," instead getting disrespected.

Anyway, he’s not short of money, hiring a nutritionist for a tailored meal or packing food from a fancy restaurant would be better than what she cooked. As long as he doesn’t starve, she decided not to bother with him.

Things weren’t resolved with Aidan Lockwood in the morning, so she asked him to meet during noon.

"It’s been quite a while since you treated me to a meal." Aidan draped his jacket over the back of the chair, sitting opposite Shannon.

Shannon smiled and handed over the menu, "Order whatever you like."

Aidan wasn’t polite; he actually knew what Shannon liked to eat. After ordering with the waiter, he asked Shannon, "What was it you wanted to talk about this morning?"

Shannon gave a dry laugh, hesitantly starting to speak, "Actually... I’ve been hiding something from you."

"Oh?"

"A few years ago, you stayed in Eldoria for a long time, right? And when you came back, I moved out from my family. You asked if I was having issues with them, and I said that I moved out because of work. But actually... actually, it’s because I got married."
