My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 73: Take Responsibility for the Rest of My Life
CHAPTER 73: CHAPTER 73: TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE
Shannon Quinn used to find Vincent Rhodes’s behavior of having people follow her hard to accept, feeling as if her every move was under his watchful eyes. Yet, he refused to share even the slightest bit about himself with her.
But now it seems, regardless of Vincent’s reasons for having someone follow her, Shannon feels somewhat reassured by it.
Having bought her things and left the supermarket, she kept glancing around nervously on her way back, afraid that Jett Quinn might follow her.
She only breathed a sigh of relief once she stepped inside the apartment building since she remembered Simon Rhodes mentioning that Jett wouldn’t be able to get in here.
Feeling uneasy, she returned to her room, reflecting on how Landon Sutton’s car accident was intentionally caused by Jett. The conflict between them had its roots in her, making her feel even more guilty towards him.
She feared that since Jett didn’t succeed this time, he might carry out a next plan. Many things that seemed absurd and incomprehensible were plausible with Jett.
For dinner, Shannon originally planned to prepare and bring the meal to Landon’s room, but he said it was troublesome and decided to eat at her place directly.
Seeing him come over, and realizing that he posed no danger to her anymore, Shannon agreed.
While eating, Shannon glanced several times at Landon sitting across from her, hesitated for a long time, then finally spoke, "You probably won’t be going out much lately, right?"
"Why?"
"Just asking... Your leg isn’t convenient, if you go out, it’s better to call a couple of people to go with you."
Her sudden concern made Landon naturally puzzled, he put down his chopsticks and asked, "You seemed worried when I came over just now, why suddenly say this?"
Shannon thought for a moment and said, "I just felt that the car accident that night was very strange, I don’t know if it was aimed at you or me, so I just want to remind you to be careful when going out."
So it’s because of this.
Landon smiled, took a bite of food before saying, "Just be careful yourself."
Shannon opened her mouth, hesitated, then lowered her head and ate silently.
Not long after, Landon asked her, "Has Jett come to see you recently?"
"...No."
"Tell the truth."
Shannon paused her action of picking up food, glanced at Landon, feeling guilty under his certain gaze. Within seconds, she hesitantly confessed, "Just now when I went out, I saw him at the supermarket."
"What did he say?"
Shannon seemed to have some concerns, weighing the pros and cons in her heart.
Considering Landon’s influence wasn’t to be underestimated, if he could bring Jett to justice, it could be said to rid society of a menace.
"Actually, the car accident that day wasn’t an accident; it was orchestrated by Jett. He told me personally today, that’s why I told you to be more careful."
After Shannon finished speaking, looking at Landon’s reaction, he didn’t seem too surprised. He picked up the bowl, took two sips of soup before responding, "Well, I understand, what are your thoughts now?"
"Me?"
"He is kind of your brother, do you want him imprisoned?"
"Do you think he counts as a brother?"
Growing up under his shadow, even now being older and married with family, Shannon still couldn’t escape his intrusion. She desperately wished he would vanish from the world forever.
"Understood, I will handle this matter."
"How... do you plan to handle it?"
Seeing the worry in her eyes, Landon chuckled and said, "What do you think I’m going to do? I’m a legitimate businessman, of course, I would handle it through proper channels."
"But... I’m now a woman of the Rhodes Family, he is my brother and also sort of a family member, I’m afraid..."
"Afraid I can’t handle your Rhodes Family?" Landon smiled without much explanation, simply said, "Don’t worry about these things, let’s eat."
"It’s actually me who got you involved, sorry about that."
"Just an apology isn’t enough, if my leg doesn’t recover, you’ll have to take responsibility for me for the rest of your life."
"It will recover... the doctors all said, with good rehabilitation exercises it will recover."
"Glad to know you’re wishing me well."
Shannon hopes for his recovery, and for herself too, otherwise, if he really remains crippled because of this, she would feel indebted to him for a lifetime.
After dinner, Shannon cleaned up the kitchen, sent Landon back, took care of him to have his medication, then went back to her own room to tidy up.
At past seven, she received a call from Erin Bishop. Shortly after, Erin’s car arrived downstairs.
Before leaving, Shannon still sent Landon a text message, saying she was going out, and to call her if there was anything, worried that if he knocked on her door she wasn’t home.
Landon read the text message, a gentle smile on his face. Such a great girl, he truly fears he can’t keep her.
Shannon sat in Erin’s car, she contacted Ronan Rhodes, following Ronan’s car to the airport together.
"I just sent a text saying he arrived early, now probably picking up luggage, we’ll wait for him at the exit."
Erin nodded slightly, linked arms with Shannon, and followed Ronan forward.
Since they had been on the road, Erin hadn’t spoken much, it was clear her emotions were complex.
A youth and first love vanished years ago was about to return, surely there were many emotions she didn’t know where to start explaining.
The excitement and joy of reuniting, intertwined with unease and apprehension, as well as the puzzlement over his disappearance without a word.
"Rona, do you still remember what he looks like?"
Erin looked around, searching for the person she hadn’t let go in her heart for all these years, without glancing at Shannon, she simply nodded and said, "I remember, he looks exactly like Ronan, about the same height, he was already this tall back then."
"Did you contact him?"
Erin shook her head, her gaze dimmed slightly, saying, "The phone can’t get through, so I thought of coming to find him to clear things up face to face."
Shannon pursed her lips, some words she dared not say, afraid of hurting Erin’s feelings.
Actually, she was very worried, Erin had waited for him all these years, but that man might not have done the same. Being able to leave without a word back then shows he wasn’t truly invested in the relationship, right?
Furthermore, not having contacted in all these years, maybe he’d already found someone new...
Watching Erin’s previously somewhat confused gaze suddenly focus, looking at a particular spot without blinking, Ronan standing beside waved his hand towards that direction, happily shouting, "Bro! Here!"
Shannon looked in that direction, seeing a man with a build not much different from Ronan, wearing sunglasses carrying luggage emerging from the passageway, and beside him, stood a petite, long-haired girl holding his arm...
