CHAPTER 82: CHAPTER 82: AS YOU WISH

Shannon Quinn curled up in Landon Sutton’s embrace, scarcely daring to breathe, just watching those two people take their clothes and walk out the door, listening to the sound of the door being locked.

Watching the two of them leave, Shannon Quinn sighed in relief, thinking that they were trapped inside, she felt annoyed again.

"This is all your doing! Now how are we supposed to get out?"

"I don’t mind, if you want to leave figure it out yourself, I find sleeping here quite comfortable."

Shannon Quinn, apart from being angry, was helpless against him.

She pushed him away, carefully stood up by holding onto a nearby shelf, reached out exploringly, stepping cautiously, trying to find the light switch by the door.

"Bang" She didn’t know what her foot hit, sending a sharp pain through her instep.

In her heart she cursed at Landon Sutton, also hearing his footsteps.

The darkness in front of her, any sound and collision made her uneasy.

It reminded her of being locked in a dark room by Jett Quinn as a child, while he scared her and threw things at her.

She anxiously wanted to find the door to leave, but kept tripping over things, the more anxious she was, the more disoriented she became.

The overlap of scenes made her increasingly panicked.

The storage room was cluttered with stuff, almost every step she took bumped into something.

She couldn’t remember the direction anymore, she didn’t even know if the door was in front, behind, or to her side.

"Click"

Suddenly, the darkness was lit by lights, she turned her head and saw Landon Sutton standing by the door, teasingly saying, "Are we playing hide and seek?"

After speaking, he mischievously turned off the room lights again.

Panic-stricken, Shannon Quinn hurried towards the door, stumbling over a tin box on the floor, she reached out wanting to grab something but only caught the corner of a clothing rack, unable to support her weight, she fell forward to the ground.

Hearing the commotion, Landon Sutton immediately turned the light on again, seeing her lying on the ground, he regretted his prank.

He quickly stepped forward to help her up from the ground, and noticed her left hand was placed on her lower belly, the other hand wiping away a tear with the back of her hand.

Landon Sutton froze momentarily, not expecting to make her cry.

"Did it hurt?" he was somewhat worried if the baby in her belly was in trouble, yet dared not ask directly, fearing if it were true, he’d never forgive himself.

Shannon Quinn seemed angry, did not answer him, supporting herself with the shelf to get up, using her other hand to push Landon Sutton’s hand away.

That kind of fear, those who haven’t experienced it might never understand in this lifetime.

Just now, for a brief instant, she felt like she was back in those dark childhood days.

Despair, helplessness, and fear...

Landon Sutton realized he had gone too far with his joke but hadn’t thought she was so afraid of the dark.

"Why didn’t you say you’re afraid of the dark?"

Shannon Quinn sniffled, raised her arm to wipe her tears, turned to Landon Sutton and said: "If I had told you, would you be even more pleased?"

Landon Sutton raised his hand to rub her head, comforting her, while seriously saying, "I’m sorry."

Shannon Quinn clearly didn’t accept his apology, slapped his hand away, turned her back to him, and said: "Call someone to unlock the door."

Landon Sutton stood behind her, watching her frail back, still picturing her tear-streaked face in his mind, wanting to hug her, but unable to extend a hand.

He took out his phone to call Ronan Rhodes: "Find a staff member with the key to the storage room, come and unlock the door."

The feeling she gave him had always been one of independence and strength, so he thought she was strong enough.

But he forgot, she was ultimately just a young girl, showing strength only because there was no one she could rely on, if there were a guardian, a shelter, she would probably speak up when she’s scared, wouldn’t restrain her emotions like now when she wants to cry.

He still remembered that night, when she was in his arms telling him about the car accident, she never spoke to Landon Sutton about how scared she was that night, yet in front of Vincent Rhodes, she voluntarily shared all of it.

Perhaps she just wanted some comfort and sympathy from him, to relieve some of the grievances bottled up in her heart.

He suddenly realized he didn’t seem to know how to love her.

"With such a small courage, aren’t you afraid living alone?"

Shannon Quinn didn’t answer him, only lifted her dress to look at her calf, discovering a long gash made by the iron box when she fell.

Landon Sutton noticed too, leaned on his cane to walk over, struggling to squat down, lifting her skirt up.

Shannon Quinn, somewhat repulsed, pulled her dress back from his hand, stepped her foot back a bit, yet Landon Sutton reached out to grab her calf, looking at the wound on her leg.

Though it was just a superficial injury, it was bloodstained and seemed about ten centimeters long, looking at such a scratch on her fair leg was jarring.

Especially since it was because of him that she got hurt.

"Wait to go to the lounge, apply some medicine to disinfect."

"I don’t need you to care."

For some reason, those four words felt like a sharp knife piercing Landon Sutton’s heart.

He released her struggling leg, stood up, looked at her, and sighed almost inaudibly, "Do you really hate me this much?"

"Yes!"

Landon Sutton smiled, pretending to be relaxed, said: "Then you’ll soon get your wish."

Upon hearing Landon Sutton’s inexplicable reply, Shannon Quinn turned her head, confused, to look at him, just then the sound of the door lock turning was heard at the door.

Next, the door opened.

Ronan Rhodes stood outside, puzzled, asked Landon Sutton: "Master Nate, how did it happen? You managed to lock yourself in?"

Landon Sutton didn’t answer, just leaned on his cane, walked out of the room first, without looking back at Shannon Quinn, instructed Ronan Rhodes: "Take Miss Quinn to the lounge, find a doctor to treat her wound."

"Did Miss Quinn get injured?"

Landon Sutton didn’t say another word, left straight away.

Shannon Quinn stood at the door, watching his departing back, recalling his last words, felt sullen inside, thinking clearly he was the one who teased her, in the end, it was made out as if she angered him.

"Miss Quinn, let’s go, I’ll take you to the lounge."

"No need."

"But Master Nate ordered it."

"I said no need means no need." Shannon Quinn said this, heading towards the restroom.

Ronan Rhodes stood there scratching his head, murmured: "Whose little volcano erupted again?"

Shannon Quinn walked into the restroom, without noticing June Yardley following her in.

As soon as she walked into the stall, Shannon Quinn had a bout of dry heaving over the toilet.

Standing outside the door, June Yardley seemed to understand...
