CHAPTER 412: CHAPTER 412 PURSUED

Ye Fan lay low and didn’t reveal himself until the pursuers got close. Then he leaped out from behind the tree, twisted the neck of one person about to pass by, and spun around. Using the corpse as a shield, he picked up the gun from the fallen man and fired at the others, killing five or six people instantly.

"Tat-tat-tat!" The crisp roar of bullets firing broke the silence of the forest.

"Ahhh!" Accompanied by several screams, those hit either died or fell heavily injured to the ground.

It was at this moment that Ye Fan’s figure was exposed for the first time since entering the Primitive Forest.

After emptying his gun, Ye Fan’s figure flashed, once again taking cover behind a tree. He had no choice but to hide. Taking advantage of the enemy’s momentary surprise, he could eliminate a few, but now that other enemies had their guns trained on him, he had to continue to evade. Otherwise, getting hit by a bullet wouldn’t be a good thing.

"Damn it, shoot that bastard dead." The captain of the group was furious. Regaining his composure, the team members around him each displayed calmness and killing intent, pouring bullets densely at Ye Fan’s location.

The large tree was riddled with holes, leaves scattered everywhere, full of lethal intent.

Ye Fan couldn’t stay behind a single tree and had to find opportunities to change his hiding location.

With a swift leap, he moved as the bullets shadowed him closely.

With a "boom!", a grenade exploded beneath the tree Ye Fan had just vacated.

Luckily, Ye Fan had dodged just in time; otherwise, even if he survived, he would have been peeled like an onion.

Actually, Ye Fan’s grasp of the battlefield situation was precise. Whether bullets or grenades, he had an accurate judgment, allowing him to anticipate enemy actions and dodge accordingly.

He didn’t intend to kill many enemies. His purpose was clear: to attract the enemy’s attention, to let them know he was ahead of them. This way, it would dispel many of their doubts. Not being able to find him would certainly ruin things.

Ye Fan didn’t linger; instead, he seized a suitable opportunity to disappear from the pursuers’ line of sight. The enemies behind, though, were in a frenzy. How could they not be enraged with several of their companions dead?

"Catch up to him, don’t let him out of sight," the group leader ordered while connecting with other nearby squads to join in the hunt for Ye Fan.

Half an hour later, two squads chasing Ye Fan regrouped, but Ye Fan seemed to have disappeared into thin air, leaving the pursuers furious.

"Second Captain, that guy is gone." A squad leader reported to the approaching Climbing Tiger. "It’s truly odd—he was just ahead of us, and suddenly he vanished. It’s too strange."

"It seems the prey is also a master familiar with the Primitive Forest. Our pursuit must be extra cautious; we can’t be careless," Climbing Tiger said solemnly, then with a glint in his eyes, asked, "The prey consists of two individuals; have you seen the woman?"

"We haven’t seen the female prey, only the male prey appearing within our sight," the captain replied.

"It seems Ye Fan knows that if he exposes himself alongside Chu Mengyao, they’ll be doomed, unable to escape our pursuit. That’s why he left Chu Mengyao somewhere and then engaged with us," Climbing Tiger analyzed rationally. "They must be hiding nearby. We must be extra careful during the search and not let them slip away right under our noses."

"Our people will spread out and advance together. It’s impossible for them to escape our sight," the captain said.

"Search, keep searching. Dig three feet if needed, but find them quickly," Climbing Tiger commanded without question. "Remember, once the prey appears, stick to them without letting them escape again."

"Yes," the captain led his squad to continue the search.

Climbing Tiger also connected with other squads, emphasizing the difficult nature of the target.

However, Ye Fan, having found an opportunity, slipped through the pursuers’ gaps, got behind the enemy, and reunited with Mengyao. Facing the overwhelming enemy numbers, he had to strategize. As long as he made the enemy believe he was in front, showing himself occasionally, the enemy would keep advancing forward, while he trailed behind, seizing chances to cause minor troubles.

He didn’t plan to inflict significant damage on the enemy—just enough to make them pay some price was sufficient.

If he killed too many enemies, it wouldn’t be good, only provoking them into a frenzy, possibly causing unforeseen mishaps. So, his current goal was safety, slowly seeking an opening for attack.

Ye Fan’s speed in the forest was like that of a tiger or leopard, unmatched by the members of the Lone Wolf Mercenary Corps.

Thus, he could easily evade the enemy’s line of sight with no difficulty.

Ye Fan and Mengyao relocated their hiding spot, and in a small valley, Mengyao softly asked, "Are we going to drag this out forever? When will it end? We might starve to death soon."

Ye Fan glanced at Mengyao, his heart full of pity. Sensing her weariness, he gently reassured her, "Keep holding on. Du Xueqi and the others will find us. By then, it’ll be fine. Tonight, we’ll find some food, as the enemy hasn’t prepared any provisions, as if fearing I’d steal them. But by night, the enemy will surely hunt some wild animals. At that time, we’ll take over an enemy camp, and we’ll have warmth and food."

"Okay." Mengyao nodded obediently, then asked curiously, "Can Du Xueqi and the others really find us?"

"I have a custom tracker injected in my body. As long as they have some time, they’ll find us. By then, we needn’t be afraid," Ye Fan assured.

He’s now waiting for the right moment. When the time is ripe, he’ll unleash a massive counterattack. But for now, keeping Mengyao safe is the priority.

For the moment, he couldn’t afford a major confrontation with the enemy, as that would be too dangerous.
