James Caldwell stood frozen, watching the approaching Limb Demon, yet his mind was replaying Old Andrew’s constant chatter, telling tales about his family, bragging about his wife, planning excitedly about the gifts he would buy for his daughter once they’d made money from this journey, but now...
He had died right in front of him,
Even in his final moments, he was thinking about getting them out safely!
A good and vibrant man was killed by the Demons.
Died in this Wilderness!
James had a furious fire in his eyes, clenched his fists, and roared:
"I’ll kill it!"
"Calm down!" Charles Shaw held back James, ready to rush into the fray. Holding back tears, he gritted his teeth and said: "We still aren’t sure if it’s a common Limb Demon, or the Wings of Flesh Demon Thieves. If it’s the latter, we can only run. Otherwise, we’ll all end up dead here. Who then will look after Old Andrew’s wife and child?"
Anger was escalating in Charles’ voice, and he ended almost yelling.
It wasn’t that he was afraid of avenging his friend. Rather, it was because Limb Demons are not natural-born creatures of the Wilderness. They are transformed from humans.
The first appearance of Limb Demons was a decade ago when a gang of extremely malicious convicts escaped into the Wilderness.
As most of them were not Beastmasters and those who were had long lost their Pet Beasts and transcendent abilities, there was no difference between them and Ordinary People.
Once they were out of human society, their survival skills could be put to the test at any time as they could fall prey to the Demons in the Wilderness. If they returned, however, the penalties awaiting them were severe, possibly leading to execution on the spot.
At this moment, their leader told them he’d been enlightened by an Ancient God and led them all to perform a grisly ceremony -- they transformed into a new type of Demon, the Limb Demons!
Although they lost their Beast Master Space as a result, they gained a special Flesh System Ability -- Grafting!
Limb Demons have the ability to graft parts of other creatures onto themselves, infuse and use the inherent blood and flesh power, thus gaining power and a long lifespan.
It provided a faster route to gain power than being a Beastmaster, enabling them not only to survive in the Wilderness but also to become transcendent creatures. This brought them great excitement.
However, the gift of fate, had its price marked.
They soon discovered that the flesh pieces attached to their bodies would decay at multiple or even tens of times the normal rate. If they did not replenish fresh flesh in time, they would be twisted by conflicting flesh power.
The twist would spread to their bones and consciousness, ultimately turning them into a useless mud, knowing only to devour.
On the other hand, if they could continuously supply fresh flesh, even graft other creatures and even transcendent monsters’ bodies onto their own, they would gain unparalleled combat power.
However, fighting with transcendent creatures involves the risk of death, and their criminal nature combined with their will to live didn’t dare to take the risk. They directly pushed their vile nature to the extreme.
They turned their attention to the weak but spiritually powerful human species, treating their former fellows as food, and becoming their means of longevity.
Therefore, they often prey on Merchant Associations and small adventure groups in the Wilderness, even breaking into villages and towns, slaughtering at a massive scale, snatching human body parts, and proudly calling themselves "Wings of Flesh Demon Thieves".
Meaning they’re using the flesh and blood of all creatures to gather, gain their wings of freedom, and ascend to the Heavenly Dome!
Ascending from blood and flesh!
The reason there are Limb Demons in the Wilderness is that the leader of the Demon Thieves distribute the Transformation Ceremony of Limb Demons for free.
It was not because he was any selfless good man, but because he wanted to attract and absorb more fresh blood, and create some targets to attract the Alliance’s firepower.
The weak would be killed, while the surviving strong would be eligible to join them.
They succeeded!
Due to human greed, for power, or for prolonging life, choosing to transform into a Limb Demon, a large number of horrific incidents happened annually.
Utilizing this opportunity, the "Wings of Flesh" expanded in these years and became a dominating evil force.
The very leader has grafted a lot of powerful transcendent monster bodies onto himself, and his power is infinitely close to Morning Star Level.
If they cross paths with them, they only have one way out: death.
Charles glanced over at the Limb Demon in front of them and didn’t see a black-red blood and flesh wing pattern tattoo on it.
"It doesn’t have a tattoo, it’s probably not a member of the Wings of Flesh, and based on its aura, it’s a wild Elite High-level Limb Demon!"
Charles breathed out in relief. His eyes were ablaze with a vengeful flame, as was the rest of the group.
They have killed Elite High-level before!
So, everyone got off the truck one by one and invoked their Beast Controlling Array, summoning their Pet Beasts.
The Gale Dog, Rock Giant Frog, Vine Rabbit and James’s Lightning Horse appeared.
The bald-headed young man, James Harris, in the group issued an order:
"Gale Dog, use the Wind Blade!"
The Gale Dog, which looked exactly like a German Shepherd with a strong airflow around it, generated a few half-meter-long wind blades that swept forward. However, the Crab Claw Demon didn’t evade it but swung over its giant claw blocking in front of it.
Ding, ding, ding!
The wind blades collided with the hard crab claw, leaving only a few shallow white traces before they shattered and dissipated into the air.
"Idiot, this claw comes from a steel Armor-crab, with hardness that can resist hot weapons head-on. Your mere wind blades are not even enough to make me itch!"
The Crab Claw Demon sneered, not noticing that a large number of vines had stealthily approached from the ground.
