CHAPTER 63: CHAPTER 63: UNABLE TO WITHSTAND JACK YATES’S WRATH

"Who do you want to marry you, huh?"

Renee was thrown onto the bed by Jack Yates. Just as she was about to sit up, Jack tore off his tie and pressed her down with a fierce expression.

Renee pushed against his shoulder with her hand: "Jack, don’t be like this. Listen to me, let me explain."

"Explain?" Jack sneered, "Want to lie to me again, is that it?"

Renee pursed her lips, wanting to say she hadn’t lied to him, but she couldn’t bring herself to say it. She had indeed been deceiving him all along.

Seeing her silence, Jack became even more angry, his large hand forcefully pinching her waist, smirking with one corner of his mouth, his eyes reddening.

"Renee, did you really think I didn’t know you’ve been lying to me all this time, huh?"

At this moment, Renee felt immense exhaustion, tired from the depths of her heart.

She no longer wanted to coax him nor act cute and playful to amuse him.

For the past six months, she had been trying to understand Jack’s thoughts. Every time she spoke to him, she had to carefully consider whether her words might upset him.

Too exhausting, this kind of life is too exhausting.

She fully understood the saying, ’being with the king is like being with a tiger.’

"Jack." Renee looked at him gently and said in a calm tone, "What we have isn’t a normal relationship; you forced me to be with you, so please, can you not mind anymore?"

This statement completely infuriated Jack.

Jack grabbed her neck and bit her lip with reddened eyes.

That night, Renee barely slept, like a little white flower in a storm, enduring Jack’s overwhelming rage.

At five in the morning, Renee hazily fell asleep, or perhaps fainted, and woke up at noon, unsurprisingly ill, her throat feeling as if it was cut by a knife, making it painful even to swallow.

She not only felt dizzy and had a sore throat, but also developed a mild fever.

She couldn’t withstand Jack’s fury.

Fortunately, it was vacation time, otherwise she couldn’t have attended classes normally.

During the three-day New Year’s break, she nursed her illness in the apartment.

Jack stayed with her, took care of her for three days.

After the break, returning to school, Renee learned from others that Zachary Lynch received a study-abroad offer in Merlionne, to leave after New Year.

Renee’s heart sank; she didn’t need to ask to know this must’ve been orchestrated by Jack, yet she could only pretend not to know.

After this incident, Renee became even more afraid to interact with males and avoided speaking to other guys unless absolutely necessary.

The following dozen days were relatively peaceful; Jack didn’t act viciously like a mad dog again.

After exams ended, Renee moved back into Thatcher Manor.

Stayed for three days when Jack asked if she wanted to go back to Vintara.

Renee was unsure whether Jack wanted her to go back or didn’t.

She replied with a question: "Do you want me to go back?"

Jack looked at her like a deep abyss, suddenly smiling: "What, scared of me?"

Renee lowered her eyes guiltily: "No, I just don’t want you to be upset."

After she spoke, she raised her eyes to meet his gaze.

Jack said nothing, his gaze deep as he looked at her, wanting to see emotions beyond ’fear’ from her eyes, like love.

Sadly, he saw nothing; all she felt for him was fear, devoid of love.

At this moment, Jack felt full of frustration.

He had lived for twenty-eight years, almost twenty-nine, and though not having the wind and rain at his command, he could have whatever he wanted, never having failed.

A youthful hero’s dream, most people can’t achieve in their lifetime.

But he wanted to be a hero and did it, accomplishing it effortlessly.

Famous young, fulfilled ambition.

By twenty-eight, he’d reached the pinnacle of a man’s life, gaining fame and fortune.

Yet this year, Jack met his setback, falling in love with a girl he shouldn’t have.

Now he felt the sense of failure, the powerlessness of wanting but not obtaining.

He reached out and gently touched Renee’s face: "Don’t overthink. You should go home, I won’t be angry. Let me know the day you’re going, I’ll have someone get your ticket."

Renee looked at him for a long while, ensuring he wasn’t testing her, then replied softly: "The day after tomorrow, is that okay?"

Jack curved his lips in a smile: "Alright."

The day Renee left, Jack drove her to the airport, personally saw her onto the plane, and repeatedly reminded her to take good care of herself before he left.

When Jack turned to leave, Renee hugged his firm waist, her face pressed against his back: "I’ll return after New Year, make sure to pick me up at the airport then."

Jack patted her hand: "Okay. Let me know any day you want to come back."

Renee said: "Perhaps the second day of the New Year, or the third."

After all, going out on New Year’s Day doesn’t seem appropriate.

Renee flew first class; Jack never let her suffer materially. On material terms alone, Jack spoiled her greatly.

He not only booked first class but also gave her a card with over two million in it, plus more than twenty thousand cash, with over ten thousand placed in the suitcase, five thousand-plus in her wallet, fearing she might run out of money upon returning.

Getting the money, Renee teased: "You gave me so much money, what if I get robbed?"

Jack said seriously: "If you really encounter a robber, give them all the money, don’t keep a cent, preserving life is priority."

Jack held her in his arms, kissed her face: "This little money means nothing to me, but if anything happens to you, Renee, I wouldn’t be able to move on for a lifetime."

Renee patted his back: "Just joking with you, don’t worry, I’ll take good care of myself."

Renee’s plane landed in Vintara past four in the afternoon, Matthew Shaw personally drove to pick her up, arranged her into the luxurious hotel suite she and Jack stayed in before.

Renee knew all this was arranged by Jack, he’d said upon returning Matthew would be at the airport to pick her up.

She stayed one night at the hotel, and the next day Matthew drove Renee back to the country.

With Jack ensuring her smooth path, Renee had no hardships on her way home.

However, upon arriving home, it wasn’t comfortable.

First, her suitcase worth over three thousand caught her stepmother Whitney Lowell’s eye.

Whitney chuckled: "Renee, as a child, you don’t need such a large suitcase, let this one be for Auntie."

Renee didn’t agree, politely replied: "Auntie, I need to pack books and clothes, lots of stuff, so I need a large suitcase."

Seeing her disagree, Whitney immediately gave her a cold shoulder.

Renee ignored her; later that night, Whitney rummaged through her suitcase while she slept, finding over twenty thousand she’d hidden inside.

At two in the morning, Whitney woke the entire family, tossed the cash on the coffee table, coldly asked: "Renee, how could a student have so much money?"

Grandma Winnie Lowell also asked: "Yes, Renee, where does this money come from?"

Grandfather didn’t ask but looked at Renee, clearly wanting to know too.

Renee calmly replied: "Scholarship money and savings from part-time work."

Whitney picked up the stack of bills, handed it to Winnie Lowell, acting magnanimously: "Mom, take this money, manage it. For Renee, a child carrying so much is too dangerous."

Having said that, Whitney smiled and spoke to Renee: "Renee, Auntie has your grandmother manage the money for your good. Although you earned it, you’re still too young, just a teenager, carrying so much isn’t safe, what if someone cheats you?"

Renee forced down her anger, coldly smiled: "Auntie thinks I’m a fool?"

Whitney’s face hardened, taking on a lecturing elder’s tone: "Can you say you won’t spend recklessly with so much money? Even if you resist, what if a classmate borrows money from you?"

Upon hearing this, Winnie, who hadn’t intended to take it, immediately took the money, spoke to Renee: "Renee, your aunt is right. Carrying this much makes grandma uneasy. Grandma will keep it for you and give it when you need it."

Renee didn’t argue, after all, twenty thousand wasn’t much; Jack’s card had over two million, the change alone outdid this.

She nodded: "Alright." Then added, "May I sleep now?"

After the lights were off, she didn’t sleep, but sat up and sent Jack a message.

Durian-flavored Ice Cream: [Jack, I want to return to Northcity, return to you.]
