My Possessive CEO: Trembling in His Arms
Chapter 65: Renee, Don’t Be Afraid. I’m Here.
CHAPTER 65: CHAPTER 65: RENEE, DON’T BE AFRAID. I’M HERE.
Renee Winslow drifted in and out of sleep, dimly hearing the doorbell ring.
She weakly opened her eyes, her voice hoarse and fragile as she asked, "Who is it?"
Her voice was so soft that the people outside the door didn’t hear her at all.
Matthew Shaw didn’t dare to let the hotel staff open the door on his own authority. After all, the woman inside was Jack Yates’s, and no matter how much courage he had, he wouldn’t dare to go in without permission. Seeing any bare arms or legs, or any other part, might cost him his own arms and legs.
So he took out his phone and called Jack Yates, respectfully addressing him as Third Brother and saying with a smile, "Third Brother, the door is closed, and there’s no response when I press the doorbell."
Jack Yates: "Have the hotel staff open the door, and have a female staff member accompany the doctor in." He asked, "Is it a female doctor?"
Matthew Shaw answered swiftly, "Yes, yes, yes. Following Third Brother’s instructions, I specifically invited the most authoritative internal medicine doctor from Vintara’s top-tier hospital, Miranda Monroe, Dr. Monroe."
Jack Yates: "Okay, let Dr. Monroe go in to treat her, but don’t go in yourself."
Matthew Shaw’s mouth twitched, holding back laughter, "Of course not. Even without Third Brother’s instructions, I would avoid going in."
Renee Winslow heard the door open and turned to look ahead, her eyes cloudy.
Seeing someone enter, she sat up in a panic, asking anxiously, "Who are you, and what are you doing here?"
Dr. Monroe smiled and said, "Don’t be afraid, young lady. I’m a doctor from the Vintara People’s Hospital, my surname is Monroe."
As she spoke, Dr. Monroe handed her a business card.
Renee Winslow glanced at the card, seeing that the photo on it was indeed of the middle-aged woman in a white coat standing before her, but she still couldn’t believe it.
Not only did she not believe it, but she was also very scared.
In her extreme fright, Renee Winslow became fully awake.
She thought of some terrible scenarios, wondering if this was an untrustworthy hotel?
Seeing her as a single girl staying at the hotel, they might have entered her room while she was asleep, under the guise of treating her, but in reality, wanted to drug her and harvest her organs.
The more she thought about it, the more scared she became, trembling as she hurriedly grabbed her phone.
"Don’t come any closer!" She said, her hand shaking as she unlocked the screen, dialing a number from her contacts without a second thought.
Dr. Monroe, seeing her terrified expression, realized she had misunderstood and took a few steps back, watching her with a gentle smile. "Don’t be afraid, young lady. I’m really from the People’s Hospi—"
Standing outside the door, Matthew Shaw didn’t look inside the room, but hearing Miranda’s words, he vaguely guessed the situation and urgently explained, "Renee, don’t be afraid. I am Matthew Shaw. Jack Yates found out you were ill and called me to invite a doctor to treat you."
Right after Matthew Shaw finished speaking, the call Renee made was answered, and Jack Yates’s deep voice came through the phone, "Renee."
Tears streamed down Renee Winslow’s face as she choked out, "Jack, I’m sick."
Hearing her weak, broken voice, Jack Yates’s heart tightened, and he softly comforted her, suppressing his own emotions, "Don’t cry, Renee. Don’t cry. I’ll be boarding the plane in ten minutes, and I’ll be by your side in two hours."
Renee Winslow was fully awake now, even her crying subsided, as she asked with a nasal tone, "Are you coming to Vintara?"
Jack Yates: "You’re sick, I can’t rest easy."
Renee Winslow was surprised, "How did you know I was sick?"
Jack Yates: "Let Dr. Monroe treat you first. After that, take some medicine and get some sleep. I’ll be there when you wake up."
After hanging up, Renee Winslow gave an embarrassed smile to Dr. Monroe, "I’m sorry, I misunderstood you."
Dr. Monroe smiled and said, "It’s good you have this kind of alertness. If you had just believed us when we came in, then I’d be worried."
Renee Winslow didn’t say anything, just gave a shy smile.
Dr. Monroe, carrying a medical kit, walked over to the bed and touched Renee’s forehead with her hand. "You’ve got quite a fever."
The waitress walked up, bent over, and gently asked, "Would you like some water? I’ll get you a cup of hot water."
Renee Winslow’s throat was indeed dry, and she swallowed hard, "Thank you."
"You’re welcome." The waitress turned to fetch some water.
Dr. Monroe took out a stethoscope, lifted Renee’s pajamas, and listened to her heart, lungs, and abdomen, then took out a thermometer for her to tuck under her arm to measure her temperature.
While Renee was taking her temperature, Dr. Monroe asked her about some symptoms, and then she put down her pen and said to her, "Based on your symptoms, there’s an 80% chance it’s influenza A. You need to go to the hospital for a routine blood test."
Renee Winslow didn’t want to go to the hospital. Firstly, she didn’t have the strength for it, finding even walking difficult. Secondly, she was afraid to go alone.
She glanced at Dr. Monroe and then looked toward the door, saying to Matthew Shaw, "Shaw, I won’t go to the hospital for now. I’ll wait for Jack to come, and then I’ll go."
Matthew Shaw still didn’t show his face, replying from the doorway, "You’ll have to tell him that yourself."
"Okay."
Renee Winslow called Jack Yates again, just as he was about to board the plane.
Once the call connected, she immediately said, "The doctor says I might have influenza A and wants me to go to the hospital for a blood test. Can I wait until you get here before I go?"
Jack Yates originally wanted to refuse, but hearing her delicate and pitiful tone, he softened and indulgently agreed.
"Okay," he said. "Have the doctor give you some antipyretic medicine to bring the fever down first."
Renee Winslow obediently agreed, "Okay, I’ll wait for you to get here."
Jack Yates gently reassured her, "Renee, don’t be afraid. I’m here for you."
