CHAPTER 1444: CHAPTER 1443: IT’S A START
The sun was barely at its zenith, so we had a fair amount of time remaining during the day to get any and all work done, though the question became what sort of work we could get done that might be finished before the sun set.
Yes we could work overnight but I wanted to not settle into that habit if we could avoid it, and that would likely be the time where we reunited with Mother and everyone else to enjoy some quality time together.
Even now they were a decent distance away just frolicking through the fields, letting both Alessandra and Lakshmi roam free as they explored the new land and played with the various wildflowers that grew in abundance on the plains.
I could even see a ball being thrown by Mom, which seemed far too alluring for Lakshmi as she chased after it whenever it streaked past her vision; something so simple yet she seemed to enjoy it very much as she just ran around before stopping every so often to be beside her Elven sister.
"The foundation shouldn’t take us too long right? Anput can just take those stones we were given and stick them together with her magic to create a solid base for the house..."
Jahi’s musings drew me away from the frolicking children and back towards the matter at hand, which had me pursing my lips as I debated that point in my mind for a few moments, only to be reminded of something else.
"What did you have her on that pillar for?"
The Demoness stiffened before smiling at me as she answered "She was looking for anything noticeable in the land for us to use... like another natural hill, a divot, maybe a pond or a lake.", which was... a bit understandable but definitely not sufficient.
But I was willing to leave it there for now as I instead stopped Anput from beginning to raise even more of the mound she was summoning for our house since this was where the foundation would need to start.
"We should build from the bottom up, and that means we need to start here and figure out the dimensions of the house now. Are we going for something overly large, compact, or in between? How tall should we make each level and do we need to worry about anything else for the future?"
The mound was already a few feet above the plains, but getting her to hollow out where we were going to begin building wouldn’t take too long either, so we began to walk the start of our property and began to go over more and more of it.
"Honestly we don’t need a large amount of space if we’re going to have these basement levels as well. That’ll end up being... what, four floors total for the entire house? Not including any buildings attached to the house for hobbies or whatever; a greenhouse and a forge come to mind immediately."
"It still needs to be large because it isn’t just us here forever."
That reminder had Jahi smirking while Anput’s tail swished back and forth, both of the futanari giving me a look that was a reminder to me that tonight was another night for them to try and make that happen.
"How big will this end up being again? Not the house but the hill we want to create; like over three hundred feet? More, maybe less? Or do we just cordon off an area around the hill and use that as our private land?"
Jahi’s question had me stumped for a moment while Anput just kept quiet since she didn’t seem to really care, leaving Adelina to step in and give a suggestion as she said "You should do a little bit of both."
Turning towards the Lionkin and gesturing for her to continue, I puzzled over it while listening to her as I imagined what she was saying, looking for flaws or building upon it where I believed we would need to do so.
"Have the main house either somewhere in the middle or have it dominate one side of a giant rectangle of land. Construct walls around the entire property and then have your home be somewhere near the center of the city plan so that you have more protection around you."
The idea of being in the middle of the city sounded horrid, but since we were building on a plains it was hard to not do that since there were no natural landforms to use as defensive areas, and while we could ask Anput to create a mountain for us to build against it just wasn’t reasonable.
Who knows how that would become damaged over time and if it would cause troubles for the city in the future, so why even bother with something like that?
"I don’t know, now I want to raise far more land and build on that to make it more defensible. Getting the Mana Crystals needed to power a barrier would be expensive but worth it, and the walls themselves would need to be thick but they would also be worth it..."
"We could have just made this easier by not taking on the responsibility of a city and instead just accepting some small plot of land near a Dungeon for ourselves."
Jahi just ignored me and instead looked at the beginnings of the mound with a calculative gaze, weighing things in her mind and making me realize there was going to be little actually done today... but that was alright.
After all, if we rushed things through here at the start we wouldn’t really be able to go back and easily change them in the future, least of all whenever we get sent people to manage and take care of.
It was just that the idea of living on this giant plateau looming above the city seemed unnecessarily grand and haughty, though considering we were meant to be the rulers of the city it would only make sense that we did so, no?
