CHAPTER 1475: CHAPTER 1474: TIME TO HUNT (1)
"Well, since there are all of these monsters just milling about, how about we go for a nice, long~ hunt and bring back enough food to last us for a little while, hm~?"
Glancing over at the Demoness, I took in her excited posture and expectant eyes for a moment before letting out a sigh and saying "As long as you promise me you won’t attempt to lure in an asinine amount of monsters without giving me the opportunity to make a decision.", which curbed her excitement a little.
"I... well, I mean, of course I wouldn’t just lure a large herd over to us and kill them all one by one! I’m smarter than that Kat, you know I am! That would just be extremely risky and irresponsible of me!"
The attempt she made to convince me that she wasn’t planning to do just that was extremely poor and she knew it, which was exactly why she coughed, turned away and instead gestured down at the vast horde in an attempt to move my attention from her.
"With how many there are, and how incredible the variety is, should we pick a few kinds that we want to target? If we’re going to hunt we should make sure we’re actually getting the monsters we want and not just what’s available..."
I stared at her for another moment or two just to let her know I wasn’t entirely willing to just move past what she was hoping to do before I approached the edge of the hole, staring down into the gigantic pit and taking in how many different monsters there were.
All of those bovines, avians and reptiles were just milling around keeping to themselves, with the occasional fight breaking out over either territory, food, or merely because of boredom; there was a very wide variety of monster present, and each offered something desirable that the others didn’t have.
The surplus of meat that the bovines had made them extremely valuable targets since they could feed us for a few days each, while the avians were likely going to be a nice source of both food and money since their feathers were probably extremely valuable.
And then the reptiles offered a little bit of meat but also a large amount of very valuable and versatile scales, horns and claws that could either go straight to Anput and or Leone as well as be sold directly to whomever visited our new home.
This diversity also meant that we had a different kind of fight waiting for us whenever we went down there, and I knew that that was what was really making Jahi as interested as she was, so I took that into account and pointed towards the area I wanted to head for.
"Over there, near that tall spire of rock. That’s where we are going to go, and we’ll take out whatever is nearby. It seems to be mainly bovines with a few avians, so that’s nice, and it’s near the edge of the hole so we can scale up and out if we need to."
She deflated a little since it was a more ’sparsely’ populated area, though even then there were easily two dozen or so monsters roaming around, which was quite a lot all things considered; what made me want to go there though was the rock spire, and I was hoping to see just what materials might be here as well.
"Use your spare blade and fight with that; it’ll make everything more enjoyable for you, and it should also prevent them from being contaminated by the Stygian Silver... not that you use that often on its own..."
The Demoness shrugged at that, the masterfully crafted dual metal great sword she had been gifted rarely getting to be used in its intended way since she always aimed for the kill immediately, meaning the poisonous nature of the material was practically useless.
"Also... let’s not draw attention to ourselves, alright? There’s a lot of space between them and the rest of the horde, so keep it contained and let’s try and get in and out, please? If they get riled up I don’t know how easily they’ll let us go-"
At first Jahi seemed nonplussed by what I was saying, so to cut through to her I added something that forced her to agree with me completely since to do otherwise would definitely not be something she could stomach.
"- and if they follow us all the way back to our home, they might get to Alessandra or Lakshmi before we can warn everyone else, or make the area very unsafe for them going forwards."
That curbed a majority of her desire to just ’accidentally’ lure in more monsters to hunt, pushing her thinly veiled excitement away and creating the space for the caution that I wanted her to have.
Getting a nod from her and knowing she wasn’t going to cause any trouble now, I gave her a smile and beckoned for her to follow me as I led us over towards the spot I had pointed out, which was now practically directly below us.
The ’entrances’ to the Dungeon were scattered all around and were the primary pathways for the monsters to emerge onto the plains, and as such they were currently occupied by a large amount of roaming monsters that were just wandering around.
Since they were hot spots I decided to just drop down into the hole, and although it was twenty five or so feet down it I could do so easily, using my dagger to slide down the wall quietly and land softly on the flush grass and vegetation all around on the ground.
Jahi wasn’t as quiet, but with a quick wave of my hands her noise was thinned out as I used some winds to disperse most of it, getting her down with me and having pretty much all of the monsters unaware of our presence.
I say that instead of all because one of them was staring at us, and immediately it tilted its massive head before slamming a hoof onto the ground, unsure of what it should do; it was far enough away from its herd that it realized it was in trouble, yet at the same time it was much larger than us...
Monsters weren’t usually smart, and thankfully this one didn’t seem to be either since it slammed that hoof again before charging forwards, this bull-esque monster lowering its triple horned head in an attempt to skewer us both against the wall we had just slid down.
