My SSS-Rank Dungeon: Reborn In A Reverse World
Chapter 54: Trust And Happiness
CHAPTER 54: TRUST AND HAPPINESS
Old Leon was coincidentally working on a project which could manipulate the body’s antibodies to fight better against the virus. But the problem he didn’t quite understand was that the virus was actually the corruption which happened to a person’s whole being.
And that included one’s soul. That was the reason he was failing to get any major results. But it did give him enough insights to make a potion which boosted one’s immunity slightly.
That potion became the reason he was able to commit suicide properly rather than turning into an Abyssal Creature.
Leon just used everything that Old Leon had discovered and combined it with his own understanding of the game, and he made this presentation.
It took a lot of his brain cells back then when he wrote it and also made the potion.
"It’s my years of work, you know. Of course, it’ll be that detailed," Leon said as a matter of fact.
"You don’t understand its significance, do you?" Amber shook her head and said. "Most of the information here is something even others have found, but the remaining part is something that can revolutionize our whole medical industry. Humans can have a better chance at resisting the corruption."
’Of course, I know that. I’m literally risking speeding up the plot for this.’ Leon sighed and said, "I can understand, and that’s why I’ve kept it a secret until now. As much as it can be helpful, it can also cause... harm, especially to me, the one who made it."
He threw his head back and chuckled, "I don’t want tomorrow’s news to be ’Student committed suicide by firing ten bullets into his back’ or ’Student took his life by jumping off the tenth floor.’"
"First of all, none of that would kill you. Second of all, stop being dramatic. I’m being serious here," Amber pointed at her laptop and asked, "And why did you give me the formula?"
"Isn’t it because I trust you?" Leon said, looking directly into her eyes. "You are providing me with all kinds of support even though you don’t really have to and aren’t even asking about my secret. The least I can do is put my trust in you."
Amber was stumped for words. She could always argue when people were indirectly attacking her or being mean or anything really. But she couldn’t face such genuine emotions head-on.
"Well, that’s something obvious. Of course, you would trust the amazing me," Amber played it cool even though she couldn’t look into his eyes, which definitely amused Leon.
"It’s also because I don’t trust others, so if even by accident the word of the potion got out, then there is a high chance I’ll be attacked, so I’m leaving that formula with you."
Amber hummed and said, "You can forget all about it. As long as I’m alive, nothing will happen to you."
"But what if you’re not?" Leon asked in return.
Amber paused but soon resumed typing something on the laptop, "Even then you don’t need to worry about anything."
’With Jade as your backing, even those dead gods will think twice before offending you,’ she added mentally.
Seeing her so sure of it, Leon didn’t ask anything more. He just let her check all the things in silence.
Just then, Evelyn came out wearing an apron over her simple green dress and smiled at Amber, ’I’m sorry for not greeting you earlier. Welcome to our humble home. I’m Leon’s mother, Evelyn Walker.’
Amber stared at her for a moment before her lips curled up slightly, ’Such manners. Such an elegant way of talking and behaviour, and even the way everything is arranged here. No doubt she belongs to one of those nasty noble families. Then, what is she doing here?’
"It’s nothing, Miss Evelyn. I’m Amber, by the way, the head of the Combat Department and also his teacher." Amber introduced herself properly, which would surprise anyone who knew her.
Amber and elegance could never be said in one sentence. They were worlds apart. But considering that this woman was someone even Jade respected, Amber found that enough of a reason to give her respect.
She was also Leon’s mother, so that was just an extra layer of cream on the cake.
’Head?’ Evelyn was surprised and turned towards Leon. ’How did you... actually never mind. I’ll just serve the food so we can talk over lunch.’
"Wait! It’s fine. I just came here to drop him. I still have..."
"Don’t bother," Leon said as he stood up and began stretching. "When my sweet dear mum makes something, she won’t let you go unless you eat it. So why even resist? Besides, her food is heavenly."
Amber pursed her lips but eventually nodded. She really couldn’t bring herself to deny those cute, attractive emerald eyes of his.
She threw the laptop along with the USB into her storage device that no one could see and followed them to the dining room. While Evelyn went to bring the food, the two of them went to wash their hands.
"Your mother is really something else," Amber commented.
"Heh, she’s amazing," Leon smiled at her words as if he was the one getting the compliments.
He then remembered something and said, "Still, I didn’t think you had learned sign language."
"It becomes necessary once you are venturing deep into the Primordial Expanse. Even the sound of breathing can bring disaster, let alone that of conversing," Amber responded.
Leon continued to smile and didn’t say anything else. Truthfully, he was very happy with Amber. Since the time he became aware of his surroundings and people, he had noticed something in their eyes.
Whenever they learned of Evelyn’s condition, they would have various reactions that Leon had grown familiar with. Scorn, pity, sympathy—everything that made her different.
While he knew she was different from others, he didn’t like when the world treated her like an alien. He never cared about people bullying him, but what truly hurt him was how they labelled his mother as useless and alien.
He got into several fights because of that single reason.
He didn’t want the world to treat his mother so differently. But he had already grown used to it and began to consider his mother as special.
And special people always got isolated by the world.
But when Amber met with Evelyn, Leon had been paying close attention to her and realised there was nothing in her eyes aside from respect. Perhaps some curiosity, but that was it.
For her, Evelyn was really just her student’s mother and a person. That was it.
Just that simple gesture of hers made Leon so happy that he didn’t even try to bargain for anything in exchange for the formula. His mother and Silver were truly his pillars of strength and also his weaknesses.
As long as one made them happy, they could be on the good people list of Leon.
"By the way, I’m not trying to be rude or anything even though I usually come across as such. But I’ve detected something unusual with your mother."
Leon frowned but didn’t respond.
"Don’t get me wrong. I am just surprised to see that someone with a damaged soul can live so well. She’s truly an amazing woman. And as you’ve said, she’s strong."
