My SSS-Rank Dungeon: Reborn In A Reverse World
Chapter 55: Jealous Son
CHAPTER 55: JEALOUS SON
The two of them cleaned their hands with the towels but didn’t immediately leave. Leon pondered for a while before asking,
"What do you mean by damaged?"
"You don’t know?" Amber raised an eyebrow. "I thought you might have already visited the top doctors and healers."
"We did, but the most we found out was that the problem with her voice lay in her soul," Leon sighed. "Other than that, nothing. That’s why I’m asking what you mean by damaged."
"Well, I can’t tell anything without properly checking, but one thing is for sure," she said. "Her soul is damaged. Whether it was by accident or intentional, I don’t know, but it’s a miracle she’s alive and doing this well."
"Her soul is that damaged?" Leon frowned even more.
"You understand Corruption very well, so you should also understand what even a slight damage on the soul can do to a woman."
Leon stayed silent. He knew it, but he didn’t want to admit it.
"I’ll check her later just in case, but I don’t think you need to worry about anything," Amber said, seeing his gloomy expression. "I’m guessing the damage was done long ago. If she could live well for such a long time, then there is really nothing to worry about."
Leon nodded as he also understood that. Still, he asked, "Is there any way we can heal her soul?"
He didn’t want to take any risks.
"There are, but they are incredibly rare. I’ll keep an eye on it just in case," Amber said, patting his back. "But as I said, if nothing happened all this time, nothing will happen in the future. Her soul has already adapted to her special nature."
"That’s good." Leon sighed in relief.
"Do you know what caused that damage though? If we can find the source, treating it will be much easier," Amber asked.
"No."
"Do you want to find out in any other ways?" Amber asked, as she had her own ways to check Evelyn’s past.
"You misunderstood. My mother never hides anything from me. It was me who didn’t ask anything from her. Why bother with the past when it will only hurt her even more?" Leon shook his head and said.
"You don’t want revenge?"
"You mean, I should hurt my mother by reminding her of her past just to take revenge on others for hurting her?" Leon shook his head. "She doesn’t want anything to do with her past, and I’ll respect it."
"I can sense anger in you."
"Why wouldn’t I be angry at people who hurt my mother?" Leon snorted. "But I’m not hypocritical enough to take revenge on my mother’s behalf by discarding her own feelings. At that point, it’s just me finding excuses to fulfill my own goals."
Amber stared at him in astonishment. She didn’t think this dramatic kid would hide such a mature mind. She couldn’t help but smile at that thought.
"You’re more clever than you let the world know," Amber chuckled and said. "You’re on the right path. Needlessly pursuing revenge and discarding everything for it never ends well."
"Speaking from experience?" Leon teased.
"Shut up! No personal attacks!" Amber sighed, really hating his perceptive nature. "But it is true that I’m happy you have such a view of this world. You understand what I couldn’t at your age."
"You’re speaking as if you belong to the senior citizens." Leon rolled his eyes at her.
"Can’t you let me be serious for once?"
"It doesn’t suit you," Leon said honestly. He really didn’t like seeing that dispirited look on her face.
She was like the symbol of strength for the current him, so he didn’t really want to see her in that state. Even if it was incredibly selfish of him.
"Whatever. I’m curious though, now that you have the potential to grow stronger than ever, if the opportunity is presented and the past catches up, will you take revenge?" Amber asked.
"If anyone from her past dares to disturb her peaceful present, then I don’t mind becoming a hypocrite and taking the revenge," Leon said coldly.
"That’s just being self-defensive, not hypocritical."
Leon hummed and said, "Anyways, if it helps her, I’ll see if I can get anything from her."
"I can find out about it without letting her know," Amber offered, but she could already guess the answer.
"Don’t bother. Just like my mother never hides anything from me, I also don’t like hiding things from her," Leon said as he walked out.
’Well, except for my fights, I guess. But she also never asked, so we’re kind of even now. Still, I have to ask her what exactly happened back then for her to suffer such serious damage to her soul.’
He had been avoiding this topic for his whole life for various reasons. First, obviously, being that he didn’t want to hurt his mother by reminding her of her terrible past. She was already living a good life now.
’Perhaps I’m thinking it all wrong.’ Leon stopped and thought. ’She dedicated all her life to raising me and Silver. She didn’t do anything else. This lady really needs a life of her own.’
He shook his head and went towards the dining room.
The second reason he never asked about her past was because he was a man and an average one at that. He didn’t really have the strength to fight against her past, so it was pointless to hurt her just to satisfy his curiosity.
As he entered the room, he found the little bunny setting up chairs and also helping his mother bring the food to the table. As always, his mother had cooked so much that they wouldn’t be able to finish it all.
’I will never get why she gets so happy feeding people, but who cares. She’s happy. That’s all that matters.’
"Yo, Mum, you never made me such delicious dishes," Leon complained as he sat on the chair. "Why do you always do this with guests but not your family members?"
’I always made Silver’s favourites,’ Mother Evelyn pointed it out before she placed the desserts on the table.
Leon was speechless as he couldn’t even argue against that. But did that mean he wouldn’t? Who set that rule?
"Exactly! Then what’s the problem with me?" Leon sulked and reached over to pick up the desserts, but a light hit from Evelyn made him retract his hand.
’Wait for Miss Amber,’ Evelyn said before sitting down beside him. ’Make me proud like she always did, and I’ll make you your favourite food.’
"You mean I never made you proud?" Leon clutched the right side of his chest as if he was extremely hurt at her comment.
Evelyn helped him place his hand on his left chest and told him, ’You will fail even in acting. I’m really wondering if you’re really my son or not.’
"We’ve been over this already. I was born in a village, so how can I be replaced? I’m your blood, so you better accept it quickly."
’Who said children don’t get replaced in villages?’ Evelyn had a thoughtful look on her face as she said, ’I heard Uncle Lin’s son turned out to be a genius and made the whole village proud.’
"Stop talking nonsense, old lady. I’m better than him in all aspects."
’Are you jealous?’
"My mom is praising someone else, you think I wouldn’t be jealous?"
This was the scene that Amber saw when she entered the dining room.
