My Superstar Wife Is So Popular
Chapter 484 - 482: Explanation
CHAPTER 484: CHAPTER 482: EXPLANATION
It was already past ten o’clock at night, and calling a driver to pick her up seemed like a hassle; since she had already spent time alone with Fu Jinghen earlier, doing it once more didn’t matter. Wen Qiao didn’t put on any airs, nodded, and followed Fu Jinghen to the car. She didn’t wait for him to open the door for her and instead took the initiative to open the door and sit inside.
Fu Jinghen didn’t fuss over this detail.
As the car drove through the silent streets, the two of them had nothing to say.
Wen Qiao tilted her head and looked out the window at the receding scenery. As she watched, her gaze shifted to the reflection of the man’s profile in the car window.
"When are you going back to Hang City?"
Fu Jinghen’s voice suddenly broke the quiet in the car, and Wen Qiao, a bit taken aback, coldly threw out two words, "Tomorrow."
Fu Jinghen made a noncommittal noise and then fell silent.
The car stopped at the same place it had two hours ago. Wen Qiao yawned and once again thanked Fu Jinghen, "Thank you, President Fu, for driving me home again."
She raised her hand to open the door but had barely touched it when someone grabbed her wrist.
Wen Qiao paused in her movement, turned her head, and with a raised eyebrow, asked in confusion, "President Fu, what are you doing?"
Fu Jinghen didn’t beat around the bush and got straight to the point, "The D family endorsement wasn’t meant for Wen Shu. That day, when Ah Ming came to discuss the endorsement, I had just found out you were hospitalized and was rushing to Hang City. I didn’t pay much attention to what he was saying and told him to deal with it himself."
Wen Qiao was stunned, not expecting Fu Jinghen to suddenly clarify this matter.
After a few seconds, she began to understand a little, "Oh, I see."
She hadn’t misunderstood Fu Jinghen over the D family’s endorsement in the first place. Later, in a fit of anger, she had wondered if Fu Jinghen might suddenly have had a change of heart and fallen for Wen Shu again, but once she calmed down, she found her own idea somewhat ridiculous.
After all, not everyone’s thought processes were as agile as hers.
But it was undeniable that now, hearing Fu Jinghen explain in person and knowing it was his concern for her that had prevented him from paying attention to Qi Ming’s words, Wen Qiao’s mood was indeed rather good.
Fu Jinghen continued, "The reason I broke off the engagement was because I mistakenly thought you still liked Ah Ming. I didn’t want to trap you. I don’t know if my mom mentioned it, but the alliance marriage with the Fu family was because FS was experiencing financial difficulties at the time. My mom helped out the Fu family, but the condition was that I marry you. I knew you didn’t like being bound, so I didn’t want to tie you down with a relationship built on interests—"
"Hold on a second," Wen Qiao interrupted Fu Jinghen’s explanation with her palm up, frowning at him, "Why would you still misunderstand that I like Qi Ming? Can’t you feel the change in my attitude towards you?"
"......"
Fu Jinghen’s eyes grew troubled as he looked at Wen Qiao, seemingly at a loss for words.
"I want the truth."
"That night at the dinner, I heard the words you said, and I also saw you...." Fu Jinghen hesitated, and under Wen Qiao’s prompting eyebrow gesture, he continued, "But later, I found out that you two were acting in a play."
Although Fu Jinghen’s explanation was vague, Wen Qiao nearly understood in an instant where his misunderstanding had come from.
"......"
Wen Qiao was almost amused to anger, not expecting that the reason behind Fu Jinghen wanting to call off their marriage would be so exasperating.
"So President Fu saw everything that day, huh? Then why didn’t you come in to ’catch us in the act’? Why sneak away instead?"
