CHAPTER 649: CHAPTER 648: THEY STILL PLAY THEIR OWN GAMES BEHIND THE SCENES

Ever since he saw his modified car, he couldn’t wait to worship Fu Jinghen almost as if he were his own father.

After buying that car, Cheng Jue had always wanted to get it customized, but Mr. Cheng and Mrs. Cheng did not approve of his car hobby, considering it too dangerous. They strictly monitored his monthly expenses, so he never found the opportunity. Later, when Fu Jinghen confiscated it, he was forced to part with his beloved car.

Now, not only had Fu Jinghen returned his car, but he had also modified it to his favorite style, and Cheng Jue was beyond thrilled.

Still, he didn’t lose his head in pride and obediently let go of Fu Jinghen’s hand, boasting to Qin Xiang and Lin Ruochun with a radiant face about just how awesome and badass his modified car was.

After showing off, he asked, "What were you guys talking about just now?"

Wen Qiao silently thanked Cheng Jue for showing up in time to divert everyone’s attention, not expecting him to come back around and bring up a topic that had already been laid to rest.

She was about to brush it off with a laugh, but Lin Ruochun, quicker with her words, said, "We were talking about someone who anonymously sent roses to our set, unnamed but specifically for Wen Qiao."

Wen Qiao: "..."

Would buying a pet snake now to scare her still be effective?

Cheng Jue: "..."

Why was this old news being dug up again?

Did they already know that he was the one who sent the flowers?

Should he make a quick exit or be brave enough to face it?

He tried his best to hide his uneasiness, "You guys are too gossipy. Why don’t you help your brother and sister-in-law get together properly instead of talking about things that can hurt their feelings?"

Lin Ruochun retorted, "What do you know? We’re helping them deal with potential hidden dangers. It’s not the thieves who steal that we fear, but the ones who covet. Open suitors are fine; it’s the ones hiding in the dark that are the most troubling."

"You’re the one who’s—"

A thief.

Cheng Jue instinctively wanted to argue back, his mind reacting the fastest. He promptly ’put on the brakes’ and frowned, "I think you’re just bored. Find some dramas to work on, and mind other people’s business less."

"Who among us can be as idle as you?" Qin Xiang lazily commented. "You have the nerve to lecture her?"

"..."

It seemed they still didn’t know he was the one who sent the flowers.

Cheng Jue slowly shuffled his feet toward the door, "Well, you guys keep guessing. Tell me once you figure it out. I’m going to go out and greet some guests."

"Get lost."

Lin Ruochun and Qin Xiang’s attention had shifted back to Wen Qiao and Fu Jinghen, not noticing anything amiss with Cheng Jue for the moment.

If this had happened a few days earlier, Wen Qiao would have defiantly said it was none of Fu Jinghen’s business, as there was nothing between them.

But having stuck together like glue these past few days, they were just short of someone coming to pierce that ’reconciliation’ paper window. Wen Qiao’s reasoning wasn’t as firm, nor was her spirit as strong.

Using the excuse of drinking too much lemon water, after Cheng Jue left, she made her escape.

Fu Jinghen watched her fleeing figure with amusement; she sure ran fast.

He picked up Wen Qiao’s glass of lemon water and took a sip.

Not sure if he had found just the right angle or not, but when Fu Jinghen’s lips touched the glass, they landed precisely on the spot marked with Wen Qiao’s lipstick.

Lin Ruochun unintentionally noticed this detail and quickly averted her gaze.

Too much to watch, really.
