Demien stared at the number. Seventy-eight. His overall had jumped three points in two productive packs.

「Would you like to continue?」
The question hung in the air. Demien looked at his remaining balance: 34 TP, 20 SP, 16 MP.
Not enough TP or MP for another pack. Only the SP remained viable.
Black Pack costs 10 SP, he thought, and his eyes moved to that option on the menu. I’ve got twenty. I could do two.
The Milan match flashed through his mind—Theo Hernandez bombing down the left wing, Rafael Leão cutting inside, Olivier Giroud holding up play. AC Milan. Serie A giants. He needed every advantage he could get.
If I pull something good from the gacha, it’ll help Saturday, he reasoned, and the logic felt sound even though he knew it was just the gambling itch talking. One Black Pack. See what happens.
"UG," he said, decision made. "Let’s go again."
「BLACK PACK SELECTED」
「Cost: 10 SP」
「10 SP CONSUMED」
「REMAINING BALANCE: 34 TP | 10 SP | 16 MP」
The lever appeared—black metal with gold trim, somehow more solid than the previous versions—and when Demien grabbed it, the weight felt real despite being pure interface.
He pulled.
The black pack materialized—premium packaging, edges sharp, surface matte black with gold accents—and it tore open with dramatic flair.
Eight cards flew out in sequence, spinning faster than the previous packs, each one settling into position with precise spacing.
First card flipped.
CURVE +9
EPIC
Purple light exploded from the card—epic rarity, massive boost—and Demien’s right foot suddenly understood bend and whip in ways that felt borrowed from world-class playmakers, the ability to shape passes and shots around defenders now elevated to elite level.
Second card.
STRENGTH +9
EPIC
Purple again, and his entire frame tightened—muscles denser, core more stable, the ability to hold off defenders while dribbling or shield the ball now significantly enhanced.
Third card.
SHOT POWER +4
UNCOMMON
Orange glow, smaller boost but still meaningful, his strikes suddenly carrying more velocity without sacrificing accuracy.
Fourth card.
CROSSING +7
EPIC
Purple burst, stacking with his earlier +3, and suddenly wide positions felt natural in ways they hadn’t before, the ability to deliver dangerous balls from any angle now approaching specialist level.
Fifth card.
TRAIT SHARD [AGENT NEGOTIATION PERK]
White glow, but this one felt different—the shard tried to integrate, hit resistance, and bounced back.
「DUPLICATE DETECTED」
「Agent Negotiation Perk already unlocked」
「Converting duplicate to currency: +1 TP」
Sixth card before he could process the duplicate.
TRAIT SHARD [SPONSOR DEAL SLOT]
Collect 4 to craft: Sponsor Deal Slot
White glow, 1/4 appearing next to the trait name. New shard, useful for future negotiations.
Seventh card.
NEAR-POST DASH
RARE TECHNIQUE
Blue light, and Demien felt new muscle memory integrate—attacking space at the near post during crosses, timing runs to meet deliveries before defenders could react, a striker’s instinct that would help him get on the end of chances.
Eighth card, final card.
LONG SHOTS +6
EPIC
Purple explosion, and his right foot suddenly carried thunder—the ability to strike from distance with power and placement that would make goalkeepers respect him from thirty yards out.
「RESULTS APPLIED」
The cards dissolved, the boosts integrating simultaneously, and Demien felt everything settle into his body at once—strength and curve and power and technique all finding their places in his muscle memory and nervous system.
Then reality crashed in.
"Wait," he said, and anger flared hot in his chest. "What do you mean duplicate? I spent ten SP—TEN SP—and because one card was a duplicate, you turned it into one TP? That’s cheating!"
The system stayed silent, no response, no justification, just cold RNG doing what it did.
「Current Balance: 35 TP | 10 SP | 16 MP」
One training point. That’s what ten special points and a duplicate rare technique had gotten him.
Demien wanted to scream. Wanted to put his fist through the wall. Instead, he took three deep breaths, forced himself to calm down, reminded himself that seven out of eight cards had been excellent, that complaining wouldn’t change the system’s rules.
The system can’t answer, he thought, and the frustration settled into acceptance. Can’t help me. Can’t fix it. Just have to play the odds.
But then adrenaline kicked in, that gambler’s high that comes from winning despite setbacks, and suddenly ten SP left felt like one more chance at glory.
"You know what?" he said, and a smile crossed his face despite the frustration. "Let’s go again. I can feel it. My luck is on fire. Time to use the last SP."
The words came out confident, but underneath he knew the truth—this was chasing losses, doubling down after a setback, the exact behavior that turned winners into degenerates.
But he pulled anyway.
"UG," Demien said clearly. "Black Pack. One more time."
「BLACK PACK SELECTED」
「Cost: 10 SP」
「10 SP CONSUMED」
「REMAINING BALANCE: 35 TP | 0 SP | 16 MP」
The black lever appeared again. He grabbed it. Pulled hard.
The pack materialized, tore open with that same dramatic flair, eight cards flying out and settling into their arc.
First card flipped.
TRY AGAIN
Grey text. His stomach dropped.
Second card.
TRY AGAIN
Grey again. Dread built.
Third card.
TRY AGAIN
Grey. Cold sweat on his palms.
Fourth card.
TRY AGAIN
Grey. Ten SP for nothing. The worst possible outcome.
Demien’s jaw clenched so hard his teeth ached. Four cards. Four whiffs. Ten special points—earned through major achievements, rare as gold—converted into absolutely fucking nothing, and rage built in his chest hot enough to burn because this was everything he hated about gacha systems, the way they could take your most valuable currency and spit out garbage without mercy or explanation.
I’m done, he thought, and he was about to dismiss the interface entirely, ready to close the system and go to bed angry, when the remaining four cards suddenly flared to life.
They hadn’t disappeared like the whiffs usually did.
They were still there, face-down, waiting.
Two of them started glowing.
Not purple. Not blue. Not orange.
Gold.
Two cards shining gold, bright enough to cast shadows across his apartment wall, the light pulsing with a rhythm that matched his heartbeat.
Demien’s breath caught in his throat.
This is it.
He knew it in his bones, in the way his hands started shaking, in the way every nerve in his body suddenly fired at once.
He’d struck gold.
