CHAPTER 70: THOUGHTS ON TRAITS

Liam walked into bedroom of his penthouse suite and collapsed on the bed. He was feeling quite tired—something that shouldn’t be possible due to his current stats. But everything with the bearer bond had managed to drain him a bit mentally.

He gazed at the ceiling with his mind still occupied with thoughts related to the bearer bond and everything surrounding it.

He was still finding the whole thing to be quite surreal. The system had really changed his life in more ways than he could had ever imagine, and in a very short amount of time.

Liam smiled and tried to shift his thoughts from the bearer bond, but it wasn’t easy. There was simply too much to process, too much weight behind it.

The truth was staggering: he now held something that gave him leverage over the EU itself.

Why? Because the countries implicated by the bond were no minor players. After the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed, thirteen successor states emerged. Nine of them — Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Italy, and Poland — now sat firmly within the EU. The remaining four — Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Serbia, and Montenegro — circled its orbit.

And here was the irony. If he ever demanded the $28 billion redemption, EU treaties and ECB oversight would block it outright. Payment was impossible.

But that impossibility was exactly what gave the bond its real power. It wasn’t money — it was leverage. A shadow credential he could wield in elite negotiations. Doors would open not because anyone intended to pay him, but because no one dared risk him asking in public.

There are lot more details behind it but Liam doesn’t really want to go into it. The truth of the matter was that he was worried.

The bearer bond is the first thing that he received that will actually make him worried. And he couldn’t help it.

The other rewards, though they were of very significant value, they were still things that he could easily come to terms with. They were things that anyone with enough money could get their hands on. But this wasn’t the same with the bearer bond.

It now puts him at the same level as the families that controls the world from the background. But these benefits aren’t without their own risks and they are very serious.

But fortunately for him, he won’t have to worry about the risks because the bearer bond is under the custody of the Rothschild.

And if there’s one thing the family pride themselves in and the reason why their clients love them so much, it’s because of their confidentiality.

With the bearer bond under their protection and as long as he doesn’t go around flaunting the attestation, Liam knew that he can go about his normal activities without worries.

Ahhh... What a day..., Liam sighed heavily.

He was actually happy that he had finally solve the great mystery behind the platinum key and the safe deposit box. Now, he can focus his attention on other things; like acquiring traits.

About accruing traits, Liam actually has no idea what trait he should acquire first. But there was one trait he actually want; the ability to fly. But he wasn’t too eager to acquiring it.

The reason for this was because the only way for him to fly would be to grow wings. And that’s something Liam doesn’t want.

Growing wings... It might sound cool for someone else but not to Liam. He can’t imagine himself having it extending out of his back or wherever.

Just thinking about it was already making him frown slightly in pain.

Though because of how advanced the nanites are, they can construct and deconstruct the wings on his command, but Liam was still against it.

It doesn’t look cool at all. If I’m going to start acquiring traits, I should start with those that will cause little to no physical changes to my body.

And Liam already has some options in mind. Two actually—Eagle’s vision and starfish regeneration ability.

Those two traits he would love to a acquire first.

Now he will need to look for a way to get cells from both animals.

He immediately picked up his phone and went on the internet to search for how he can acquire the cells.

Since both the eagle’s eyesight trait and the starfish’s regeneration trait are coded into their genomes, and the relevant genes can be found throughout their bodies, and not in one single organ, even a swab is enough to get Liam what he wants. He doesn’t need the whole eagle or starfish.

Liam took his time going through the internet and he was surprised to find out that it will be a difficult to get what he wants.

Why am I stressing myself unnecessarily when there’s an easier and faster way for me to get them?, he smiled and dialed Daniel’s number.

The call went through and rang for a two seconds, before it was picked.

"Hello, Mr Scott," Daniel’s voice came from the other end.

"Daniel, I need some biological samples for private research. Specifically, cells from an eagle and a starfish. Just small tissue or blood samples are enough — nothing extravagant. Please arrange it discreetly, through legitimate channels. Handle it like a scientific acquisition, with the usual confidentiality," Liam said.

There was a brief silence from the other end after Liam’s words. It was already obvious that Daniel was quite taken aback by the request but he quickly recovered his composure.

"I will get them ready within a week. Is there anything else you need?"

"No. That would be all," Liam replied.

"I will contact you when they are ready and have them delivered to Bellemere Mansion."

"Ok, then," Liam said and ended the call.

He dropped his phone on the bed and let out a sigh. All he can do was wait on Daniel for the samples, the headquarter building and the company’s production site.

With nothing else to do at the moment, he let his thoughts wonder that was when he remembered something important; he still haven’t assigned the attribute points he received from the weekly sign-in.

Without further delay, he summoned his status screen.
