Chapter 71: Release the Kraken! (Part 2)As the battle with the Kraken heated up, the three armored boats were getting too battered to hold on for longer, and the monster’s attacks were getting quicker and more vicious.

["Vespera, I think the blood orb is going to be in its core..."] I said with telepathy to my companion. However, she had her hands full while deflecting the tentacles that tried to destroy one of the boats.

Simultaneously, the sky became darker as clouds covered the sunlight unnaturally fast.

"No..." I muttered, knowing that I had just read from the Kraken’s information that it was stronger in rainy seasons.

"We need to end it quickly!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, hoping that someone on the boat could hear me.

Just as the rain began, I saw the princess flying my way, avoiding dozens of snatches from the Kraken’s tendrils.

"Melina, wait! Who is in the boat!?" I asked, knowing that she was our boat’s main line of defense.

"Harvey is there. I’m here to help you. We need to destroy that blood orb thingy, right? Vespera explained it to me... kinda." said Melina with determination as we both hovered in the air.

I nodded. "I think it’s probably in the center. In that giant blob of... something..."

"But we can’t get close to it, right?" she asked.

"Nope, it’s almost like the tentacles’ priority is to protect its core...wait!" I yelled, the bulb on top of my head lighting up with an idea.

We needed an attack that could pierce through the monster’s tentacles and reach its core. However, the tentacles were already so tough to break that we only ever managed to sever one or two of them with our most powerful attacks.

’A shooting star could definitely do the job,’ I thought. But we were in the middle of the day. A star would take at least six more hours to become visible.

’There is also ’day magic,’ but I don’t know how destructive it can truly be...’ I kept pondering.

"Day magic" was the other variation that was written in Kyoko’s book. However, I hadn’t managed to practice a lot of it since it was highly destructive, and training during the day would only scare people around the area.

The one time I tried it out, it was back when the whole group was training in the forest.

One of Kyoko’s explanations of "day magic" was that she mainly used clouds and sunlight. In fact, the exact line was:

"The UV rays from the sun can be turned into something like a laser beam, and clouds are easy to mold to your heart’s content. You just gotta think hard enough." Sёarch* The N?vel(F)ire.nёt website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Days after defeating the black dragon serpent, the princess asked me to teach her "night magic," so we had to go deep into the forest until we reached an isolated spot.

However, when she reached for the star and shot it up into the sky, she ended up using a lot of her MP and realized that the spell took quite a lot of power from her.

"Well, it’s a dangerous spell anyways. So, I’ll just keep it in mind for a super emergency..." she said at that time.

Nevertheless, it wasn’t nighttime during our fight with the Kraken, so the star spell was not an option.

’The only option I can think of at the top of my head is...’ I pondered quickly as the fight only intensified with the rain falling on us.

"Melina... Do you remember that one spell I told you about? The day magic we never practiced..." I said.

"You mean, the big one?" she asked.

Before I could answer, a few tendrils flew our way, making us quickly propel to the side to avoid them.

As we both maneuvered around the monster’s attacks, I told Melina my plan.

If we both flew up high enough that it couldn’t reach us, we could cast the spell without interruption.

The spell we wanted to cast was one that Kyoko named: "Sol Invictus," which I recognized from hearing that name in a history class back in my old life, although I couldn’t remember exactly what it meant.

The spell, recorded in the book as the most destructive out of all, said that a giant glass lens needed to be created while the mage gathered the sunlight energy into one spot.

Once the lens was aimed and ready, the caster would release the sunlight energy that would reflect on the lens and shoot a massive laser beam to the bottom.

Kyoko said in her book that she had destroyed an entire city with that single spell, so we never even tried to attempt it, thinking we could destroy End Town if we lost control.

The other problem we had at the moment was the weather. With the heavy rain that the Kraken had conjured, no sunlight was spotted on the battlefield.

"I’ll move the clouds and make the lens!" yelled Melina. Even when I hadn’t told her about my plan, she always knew exactly what I was thinking.

I needed Melina to use "day magic" to move the clouds and let the sunlight through. While she created the lens with earth magic, I would gather all the sunlight energy I could and shoot it straight at the Kraken.

"Let’s do it!" I said without elaborating since I knew perfectly well that she understood my plan.

The princess and I flew upwards quickly until we were out of reach from the Kraken’s tendrils, which were surprisingly extremely high up in the air.

Melina pointed her palm towards the sky, and a moment after, the dark clouds began moving to the side slowly.

[Vespera, tell everyone to get back from the monster... NOW!] I exclaimed to my companion with telepathy.

Not a few seconds later, the boats began turning around toward the pier. However, the Kraken wouldn’t make it easy for them to escape.

Thankfully, my companions and the knights were still down there, protecting everyone with all their might.

As the clouds cleared, the sun rays entered the sky, and Melina switched from moving the clouds to creating a massive glass lens that hovered in the air.

The lens was circular, and she seemed to use iron to coat the frame. It even had pretty flowers engraved on it.

’That must be her construction skills playing a part in how she makes the lens...’ I thought.

If it had been up to me to make the lens, it would have been a simple glass lens without the extra details, but that was something I liked about the princess anyways.

As she kept casting her spell, I gathered all the sunlight energy I could grasp.

The sky wasn’t fully clear, so I had to use the small opening that Melina created to concentrate the energy.

Right then, I felt an eerie sensation similar to what I felt when looking at the Kraken, but this time felt much stronger and more intimidating.

Melina felt it too, and we both quickly turned to look at where the feeling was coming from.

Far in the distance, next to the beach area, was a hill that overlooked the battlefield, and right at the top of that hill, we could see a person standing.

It was too far for us to see anything clearly, as all we could see was the black energy surrounding the figure in the distance.

We kept casting our spells. The lens was almost done, and I had gathered enough energy to shoot it down.

However, just as the lens was completed, I saw a shadowy projectile flying at the speed of a bullet toward the princess, who was focused on keeping the lens hovering in the air.

It was a matter of less than a second. I saw the projectile, my hand still holding onto the solar energy.

Just like it happened with the black dragon serpent, as soon as I saw that Melina was in danger, my body moved independently with a mixture of fire, air, and lightning magic.

Placing myself in front of the princess with my back against the projectile, I felt it hit my back, and a wave of excruciating pain rushed through my entire body.

’GODDAMIT!’ I thought as I clenched my teeth.

I didn’t lose focus from the attack. Instead, it only made me gather more energy into my solar attack, still gripping onto it with all my strength.

    "Ichiro!" yelled the princess.

Letting out a battle cry, I turned around and released the solar energy into the pivot point of the lens, generating a dazzling light that produced a massive yellow beam to shoot down straight at the Kraken’s core.

The beam was wide enough to cover the entire core of the Kraken and a little more.

The area of water where it landed burned so hot that it evaporated and prevented more water from reaching its core, leaving the monster inside a wall of burning solar energy.

The monster flailed its tentacles, but they were all severed by the radiant beam as its core slowly vaporized.

’Heh... Not bad...’ I thought as I slowly started to lose consciousness.

I could have been fine if I had just used the spell, but the mysterious projectile that hit me in the back prevented me from returning to the others.

Right at that moment, the princess hugged me and took me to a hill, which was the closest place we could land on.
