My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 93: Raw Gemstones
Chapter 93: Raw GemstonesI woke up the next day in my room in the castle with one thing in mind. I was visiting a jewelry store.
I needed to get gemstones to practice the magic that I wanted to create, and after Gina arrived in my room, I asked her to show me the closest one to the castle.
Melina arrived with Carli not even two minutes later, asking why I wanted to go to the jewelry store, so I told them I needed the gems for something new. However, I didn’t elaborate on the extent of my plans.
After having breakfast, we made our way to the store, which was the closest to the castle. However, this meant that it was also the most expensive one.
It was a large room with white and gold walls, the counters were filled with jewelry of different shapes and sizes, and the chandelier hanging from the ceiling produced light magic, illuminating the store and pronouncing the gemstones glint even more.
The store owner didn’t show much interest when I first walked through the door, but as soon as the princess walked in behind me, he suddenly perked up and bowed, asking for the reason for the princess’s visit.
Melina told the clerk that I was looking for certain gems and that she expected the man to help with anything I needed, making the clerk bow and turn towards me with a smile as he rubbed his hands.
After browsing the entire store, I realized that the prices of the gemstones were jacked up. However, it made sense since all of the gems were part of a piece of jewelry.
I was checking a golden bracelet with ruby stones, a necklace with a large diamond pendant, and silver earrings with encrusted emeralds. These were excellent pieces of jewelry, no doubt. However, I only needed the gemstones.
Turning to the clerk, I asked if it was possible to buy the gemstones directly. I could have bought the pieces of jewelry and taken the stones, but that felt almost too disrespectful to the jewel crafter.
The clerk said that they received their jewelry completed since the craftsman lived in the city of Glorya.
That meant that all of the raw gemstones were being shipped there. However, he still expressed that the gem trader was exclusive to the jewel crafter, so we would have to talk to him.
Not wanting to leave the store without anything after bothering the clerk, I ended up buying the golden bracelet with the rubies. While the clerk expressed that it would be a great gift, I awkwardly smiled, knowing that I would be taking the bracelet apart later.
After leaving the store, the group held each other, and we teleported to the city of Glorya instantly, appearing right outside its gates.
The princess told the guards that we were conducting business quickly and that we would be leaving shortly, so there was no need to announce that she was there. The guards obediently nodded and wished us good fortune.
When we got to the jewelry store in Glorya, we noticed it was much smaller than the one in the capital. It didn’t look as fancy, but it wasn’t shabby in the least, either.
At the back of the counter, a short, burly, and hairy man sat down wearing a strange gadget on his head that hung a magnifying glass over his eye as he worked on a necklace with a small tool.
The man was a dwarf, and as we approached the counter, he looked up at us with a blank expression for a moment and then resumed his work without saying anything.
Browsing through the store, I noticed some nice jewelry pieces but no raw gems.
Noticing that I wasn’t finding anything that called my attention, the dwarf spoke.
"Are you looking for something specific for your wife, my friend?" he asked, his eyes still focused on his work on the counter.
"M-my what?" I asked, blushing a little and turning to look at the princess, who turned her gaze to the side with shyness.
’Ahem,’ I cleared my throat and composed myself.
"I was actually looking for raw gems. Do you happen to sell only the gemstones?" I asked, placing my hand on the counter.
The dwarf looked up at me, took off his magnifying glass, then hung it inquisitively laterally.
"Why would someone want to buy the raw materials and not the full piece? Hey kid, are you trying to be my competition!?" the dwarf asked loudly.
"No, no. I don’t need it for jewelry. I, uuh... Need it for an experiment." I said.
However, the dwarf didn’t buy it, and without asking, he cast "Inspect" on me, making my information appear in front of him. Of course, it was all blacked out, so he couldn’t even see my name.
"What in the hells is this!?" he asked with a perplexed expression.
Pondering what to say to the dwarf, Melina stepped in, saying that the dwarf was allowed to inspect her.
After realizing he was talking to the princess, the dwarf became much more polite towards us, although not as intense as the other residents.
Melina reassured the dwarf that I wasn’t going to use the raw gems to compete with him, but the man said that his honor as dwarf didn’t allow him to simply sell the materials that he used for his craft without a good reason.
At that moment, I remembered something from my past life. Dwarves were a fantasy race that specialized in any type of crafting but were usually related to blacksmithing more than any other type.
Dwarves were proud and stubborn, but they weren’t bad people. If anything, they were just curious and innovative. So, if anyone came around them saying they wanted to create something new, they couldn’t help but feel attracted to it.
With that in mind, I decided to tell the dwarf about my plan with the gemstones, away from the princess, since it was a surprise for her birthday.
Getting closer to the dwarf, I whispered to him that I wanted to use them as catalysts for sound magic so that people could send their voices all over the world.
The dwarf widened his eyes with surprise.
"Is that possible?" he asked.
"I won’t know until I try..." I replied.
The dwarf let out a loud laugh. "Interesting fellow!"
Melina pouted in the back, as she also wanted to know what my plan was, but I told her she would have to wait a bit more.
The dwarf introduced himself as Dhormec and said that he would sell me a few raw gemstones. If I managed to come to him with results, he would sell me more at a cheaper price. Sёar?h the novёlF~ire.net website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
"You got a deal," I said, shaking the dwarf’s hand.
I ended up buying five sapphires and five emeralds, all of them pebble-sized. However, they were still a bit larger than the rubies in the bracelet I got before.
Once we got what I needed, we teleported back to the castle and spent the rest of the day doing menial tasks until nighttime.
When I finally got to my room, I excitedly sat down next to the desk and placed the gems on top, along with the bracelet.
’I’ll start with the stones in the bracelet since they are smaller...’ I thought.
Grabbing the bracelet with one hand, I placed a tray in the bottom and used fire magic to melt away the gold around the gemstones slowly.
As the molten gold liquid fell on the tray, I used gravity magic to levitate the stones before they fell with the substance and set them aside.
The next step was creating the enchantment, but to make the enchantment, I first needed to create the magic.
I had never cast anything that resembled sound magic, so I had to visualize it the best I could, closing my eyes and trying to use my magic power to detect these sound waves around me.
As I started to feel something, I looked at Vespera, who watched me work attentively and focused on eliminating the sound waves around me.
Then, I said something to my companion, but she couldn’t hear anything.
"What?" she asked, raising her eyebrow.
However, all she could see were my lips moving with not a single sound coming out of my mouth.
"So, it worked?" I asked, letting go of the spell and allowing my voice to be heard again.
Vespera looked quite impressed, then curiously asked if that was sound magic, wanting to learn how it worked.
Before continuing with my research, I gave Vespera a class on how sound waves worked, the same way I explained the theory of gravity to her years ago.
With that knowledge, she would be able to use sound magic in no time, too.
Honestly, I couldn’t think of many uses for it other than muting my steps if I ever needed to be quiet and the enchantments for the gemstones. Nevertheless, I was sure that we would probably find another use for it sooner or later.
