My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 95: Asys, The God of Magic
Chapter 95: Asys, The God of MagicAfter Asys, the God of Magic, brought me into the ethereal plain to talk to him, he expressed his interest in some of the magic that I had created.
Mostly the "gravity" and "sound" magic, although he did praise my other spells.
"You see, I’m a big fan of magic," Asys said.
"You don’t say," I replied, instantly apologizing after realizing that sarcasm wasn’t the best when talking to a god.
However, Asys smiled at my comment and explained that he had been closely watching me after "gravity magic" became a thing.
Now that I had refined "sound magic," his curiosity peaked enough to bring me here so that I could explain to him how it worked.
As I explained to him how sound waves worked and traveled around our environment, Asys was casting magic simultaneously. Not even a minute after I finished explaining, he had gathered all the sound waves around us, completely muting our conversation.
I could see him laughing as he held all of the sound waves with magic in the palm of his hand. Of course, I couldn’t hear his laugh since we were both muted.
After dispersing the sound waves back into the environment, Asys nodded with a satisfied expression and waved his hand, materializing a giant bookcase behind him.
Carefully reading the tags on each book’s spines, he reached for one labeled with the word "Sage" and gave it to me.
"W-what’s this for?" I asked.
"For reading, of course," Asys replied.
I scoffed with a slight smile, thinking that Asys’s sarcasm was actually pretty funny. Even though it was my first time seeing him, I would have expected the god of magic to look like a wise old man with strict rules about spellcasting.
However, aside from his ethereal and godly hair and eye colors, he looked like he would have been a college student in my past life, maybe even a model or a movie actor.
Looking back at the book, I opened it to skim its contents and noticed that it was written in a strange language that looked like runes.
"I uuh... I can’t read this..." I said, looking at the book with a confused expression while turning it to the side to see if the symbols made more sense.
"At the back, there is a translation page. Use that to your advantage. Once you read the book, you will get my title of ’Sage,’" he explained.
Checking the book’s last pages, I noticed that each rune represented a letter or syllable in the English alphabet.
"How convenient..." I said out loud, making Asys snicker slightly as he covered his mouth with one hand.
"You are sixteen years old now. This book will allow you to have more control over your MP. You should be able to control your awakenings much better, too." Asys elaborated, catching my attention.
Now that he had mentioned it, I inquired more about "awakening" and how it worked.
His explanation was concise and straightforward. Certain people whom Phelena had blessed were able to tap into a godly power that they referred to as "awakening."
It was a power that made the individual one step closer to becoming a god, although it never trespassed that final threshold. In other words, it was like borrowing a special skill from Phelena.
I was only able to tap into that power against Armaros thanks to Yoru’s moon buff and all of the MP that Vespera and Melina transferred to me during the fight. In reality, I wouldn’t have been able to reach that point without their help.
At that time, since our "night magic" had received a buff, my awakening also used that same type of energy.
"The sword that you materialized in your hand at that time. It’s called the ’Moonblade.’" he said before elaborating more.
Once a person had awakened, they were able to "borrow" a godly weapon from Phelena’s Armory.
Obviously, I had no idea what he was talking about, so he went into more detail.
Phelena’s Armory was a non-existent plain, meaning that no mortal could get there by any means.
In this armory, dozens of godly weapons were stored safely. However, a person who had awakened could grab one and use it as long as they maintained their awakened form.
Since I was using night magic to buff myself at the time, the weapon that I borrowed was the "Moonblade." Nonetheless, he explained that if I had awakened with another type of magic, then the godly weapon would have been different.
"I see. So, each type of magic has a different godly weapon that can only be used when awakened. Correct?" I asked.
Confirming my suspicions, Asys nodded with a slight smile.
"You have shown me some interesting spells and enchantments, so It’s only fair that I reward you accordingly," he said, making me glance at the book in my hands.
"Hmm, the book is fine, although..." he stopped himself.
"If you are feeling curious, you should check the Droman Empire’s library. There should be a book there that interests you." he elaborated.
"Is that part of my reward?" I asked, thinking that the book with the label "Sage" was my prize.
Asys nodded.
"I’m glad I met you, little brother. I’ll look forward to what other types of magic you come up with," he said.
With a snap of his fingers, the entire environment around me began shifting as if I was traveling at high speeds, bringing me back to my bed with the book still in my hands.
’Damn, I couldn’t even say goodbye to him...’ I thought, somewhat disappointed at my lack of social skills. Although my god-sibling didn’t seem the most talkative individual either, he was still quite funny.
The next morning, as soon as we got breakfast, I went back to my room to decode the book that Asys had given me.
Melina followed me and inquired about the strange book, so I told her the truth about it and recounted my meeting with Asys.
She already knew that I had talked to Sirica and Hephaestus in the past, so I didn’t see a reason to hide it from her. What I didn’t tell her was that the main reason for our meeting was the "sound magic" that I created.
Since that was still supposed to be a surprise for her birthday, I made up a reason, saying that Asys simply wanted to meet me.
Not overthinking about it, Melina offered her help in decoding the symbols, and I accepted.
Not even two minutes later, she was glancing at the sheet where I was writing down each symbol with its meaning next to them in the English alphabet.
’Wait! If it’s in English, then she won’t be able to read it!’ I thought.
However, she read the letters perfectly as if she had known how to read them from the very beginning.
"Somehow, I can understand these weird doodles that you are making..." she said, referring to my writing, which were simple letters from the Romanic alphabet.
"I-is that right?" I said, laughing awkwardly.
’D-does she really not think there is anything weird going on here?’ I thought.
However, one thing was clear to me after seeing her read in English: the fact that Melina was definitely from my past world.
Obviously, she didn’t have all of her memories, or she would have known what she was reading, but the knowledge was there in her brain.
Aside from that, the possibility of her being my past wife was extremely high. I had a talk about this with Vespera, and I was convinced of my suspicions. But now, I was almost certain that Princess Melina was MY Melina.
I kept admiring her beauty, lost in thought, when she glanced at me with expectant eyes.
"What? Do I have something on my face!?" she said, rubbing her hands against her cheeks.
From the way she moved and spoke, how she portrayed herself, and how she looked at me.
’Yes. Melina IS my wife.’ I thought before replying to her question, shaking my head.
"Ahem," I cleared my throat. "I just thought you looked cute," I said, turning my head to the side.
However, the princess seemed even more embarrassed than me. Sёar?h the N??eFire.ηet website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
"W-what are you saying!? J-just keep translating!" she exclaimed with a face as red as a tomato.
After a good chuckle, we both took our task seriously and kept working on the translation for Asys’s book the entire day.
Three days later, we had managed to rewrite the entire thing in English. During that time, the princess wondered how she could read and write in a language she had never seen before.
I wanted to tell her the truth about everything. About our past life and relationship, but it really didn’t seem like a good moment to do it, and I began having doubts if I should even tell her about it.
Our lives ended pretty miserably last time, so reminding her of that wouldn’t be the most considerate on my part.
Besides, what if she thought I was making it up to get close to her? Or an excuse to make her like me?
What if she didn’t feel the same way she did in our past lives?
With so many doubts in my head, I decided to withhold the information from her until the moment was right.
