098: Decision?

In the last chapter, I called Redford "Count" instead of "Lord." His title would be changed to "Lord" because it better fits the scene I've created.

Chapter 98

“Gaaaahhh!!!” I have to say I was a little surprised to see Zara so upset. Because she is usually calm, collected, and most importantly, calculative, this sudden outburst came as a complete surprise to me.

I would also be enraged if someone insulted me in front of everyone, publicly took what was mine in front of all the servants, and confined a noble woman to a small house like this one, which was still too large for only one woman and a few servants. But, you know, still small.

In any case, the king was openly stealing everything from her, and even though it was unclear whether Zara's husband was still alive or not, it appeared that the monarch did not care about such a trivial matter.

The king, of course, would never have looked in this direction. A small knight probably wouldn't be important enough for the king to pay extra attention to unless there were other things going on.

It was only because of the magical vegetables that the king was now paying attention to this area. Of course, I could be wrong. They might just be after Carlson because he was Zara's dad, and what better way to get back at him than by screwing his daughter?

And not the naughty kind of screwing.

Now we come to the junction where choices must be made. Whatever Zara did right now would determine her fate. She could try to divert the king's attention from her by using me as a negotiating chip, or she could...

“I have decided,” Zara screamed for a long time before stopping abruptly and saying.

Make the smart choice.

“Yes, Lady Zara.” I stood at attention. It wasn't my job to question, so I just relayed that I would be right there with her no matter what she chose. In words only, of course.

“We will kill Lord Redford.” She simply said. Although it might have been impulsive, I felt completely at ease after she said it. It was clear that she wasn't going to kill Redford without thinking about it. No, she had a plan. I had no clue what that plan was, but I had a hunch I would soon find out.

“Lord Redford has an illness.” Her voice was low and calm, almost as if she were speaking quietly. But it was enough for me to hear.

“What sort of illness, Lady Zara?”

“I do not know its name. It is kept very secret, so getting information about it is very hard. I will require the assistance of my father and the organization's channels to resolve the matter; however, as soon as I do..." She didn’t complete her sentence. There was no need to. She may have been too blunt when she was angry, but now that she was calm, she wasn't saying anything special.

“You will stand along with me, yes?” She looked at me and asked. Her eyes were cold and...sexy.

But I managed to contain myself. It wasn’t the time to think about it. There would be plenty of time to do that later. Right now, I need to determine the nature of Redford's illness. Whether it was a primitive disease that was easily treatable or an incurable disease that could not be cured with modern techniques or advanced healing methods.

Natural causes of death were very important after all. We had to take all necessary precautions to avoid being implicated. Even the ones with the Redford would have to say that we were "Not guilty."

But too many factors were against us. First and foremost, the lord was in our territory. Second, and perhaps most crucial, was Zara's support.

The reason was simple. The king who held a grudge against us. Well, against Zara, but the same thing now that she had accepted me.

The king could unilaterally declare us accountable, regardless of whether we were involved or not.

It wasn't the same, but in one of my past reincarnations, a king once exterminated a whole family after his closest confidant claimed that they were heretics. In reality, the family was framed. Only one boy made it out alive, and he went out to discover the truth.

When it was eventually discovered that the family was indeed innocent, the king's reaction was...

“So? Are you requesting that I, the monarch of this land, issue an apology, confessing that I was at fault?

Such simple words. In this era, the king was, in fact, the god's representative. He was the sole proprietor of the land under his jurisdiction, and he was never in error.

But, in the end, the king was only one man. He needed people to manage his lands. Hence came the lords. In addition to their military capabilities, the lords wielded some degree of authority, which, when combined, could pose a threat to the king.

In this way, even a king couldn't go crazy if there were strong opposition. That was why Zara's support was important.

Whether or not she could depend on someone.

How likely it was that a powerful person would stand up to the king for her.

“Go home for today, Jack.” Taking a deep breath, Zara sat on the bed and said.

Despite my curiosity regarding the anal vibrator's absence of vibration, I refrained from speaking and instead bowed in agreement before departing. There were lots of chances to live freely.

Right now, I have to pay attention to what the edge of the matter was. There were too many possibilities, so it was best to exercise caution and conduct in-depth research until I was certain of what was actually happening.

And as expected…

[Night Demon]

“The queen has ordered a swift operation. So, in the next few days, we shall move out.”

Why in the world was something not as easy as it looked?
