CHAPTER 145: CHAPTER 129: CANDLE IN THE TOMB PART 2, BOSS XU INSPECTS THE ROOMS
After finally getting through this busy period, the three of them, who hadn’t seen each other for over a month, returned to the Capital.
As soon as they entered the company office, Chu Tian, too lazy to even unpack his luggage, tossed it aside and collapsed onto the sofa, utterly spent.
"I can’t take it anymore. I’m dead tired. What was I thinking, getting into this?"
He muttered to himself. In this life, he’d never wanted to be a celebrity precisely to avoid this kind of exhaustion and the constant exposure to cameras. But, to his utter surprise, despite all his efforts to avoid it, he hadn’t managed to escape. Now he was even starting to question what he was doing. Why did he have to stay here? He had money now, and his own company was already up and running. With money and leisure, couldn’t he just find a place to settle down, do whatever he wanted, and enjoy a quiet life, just coasting along? What was it that he couldn’t let go of? Was it Xu Qingqiu? Or was it that flicker of passion for music deep in his heart?
Just as he was about to decide whether to completely abandon this circle, Xu Qingqiu, who was next to him, spoke up. She didn’t know what Chu Tian was thinking at that moment; she just found his current state somewhat amusing.
"Worn out, huh? Want me to give you a few days off to rest properly?"
Chu Tian, who had been muttering to himself, heard Xu Qingqiu’s words. Seeing her equally exhausted face, even with his thick skin, he couldn’t bring himself to talk about taking time off. Although he desperately wanted to nod, seeing a young woman like her, even more exhausted than he was, still gritting her teeth and pushing through, how could he have the nerve to ask for a break?
"No need, no need. I was just saying. Look at you, taking it so seriously."
"Really? That’s good. I have a few more events coming up. Maybe you could stick it out with me for a few more days?"
"ER..."
How did I manage to trap myself like this? Chu Tian wondered. How am I supposed to answer that? Agree or not? If I don’t agree, I really can’t rest easy with just Yiyi and Xu Qingqiu going out by themselves. And once things get busy, how will those two manage? But if I agree, does that mean there’s no escape from this life of toil?
Having no other choice, he nodded painfully but still said with a hint of resignation, "I mean, you’re a pretty big star now. Shouldn’t your assistant team be expanded a bit? Just this handful of people really isn’t enough."
Seeing his look of utter dejection, Xu Qingqiu, as if her little prank had succeeded, finally couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
"Hey, what are you laughing at? Is it that funny?"
"Alright, alright, I won’t tease you anymore. You can really rest for a while now. I was just kidding earlier. Besides, Sister Hua has already found me a few new assistants, so you can take it easy."
"Really? Can I resign then?"
"Resign?"
Xu Qingqiu’s smiling face instantly changed. Her eyes turned cold as she stared at him, saying word by word, "Don’t even think about it!"
She stared fixedly at Chu Tian, unable to comprehend why he would utter those two words. Was she not good to him? Or had her feelings not been obvious enough lately? Did he dislike her that much? Was he so eager to leave her? Was she really that terrible?
The more she thought, the more tears welled up in her eyes, though they didn’t fall. Xu Qingqiu bit her lip, still looking at him defiantly, struggling to keep the tears from spilling.
Chu Tian was dumbfounded. He’d just blurted it out. Did she have to react like this? Were his words really that devastating?
Seeing that she was genuinely about to cry, he could only sigh and quickly amend his words, "What I meant was, can I resign from the *position* of assistant? I’m not saying I want to leave."
"Then what do you want to do?" Xu Qingqiu managed to say, her voice still thick with a sob.
Chu Tian gave a wry smile. He thought for a long time but still didn’t know what he really wanted to do. He had already decided long ago that he didn’t want to be a star in this life. As long as he wasn’t a celebrity, anything else would do. But now that Xu Qingqiu asked, he suddenly felt lost, as if he had no direction in life at all.
Yes, what did he want to do?
Besides music, did he have any other hobbies? Playing games? He didn’t seem that interested. Doing something else? But what would be good?
He had no idea. Across two lifetimes, it seemed that apart from music, the only other profession he’d ever been involved with was acting. As for other things, he’d only encountered them in daily life or on shows; he didn’t truly understand them.
He couldn’t just drift aimlessly through this life just because he had money, could he?
Seeing his silence, Xu Qingqiu realized he probably wasn’t saying this to spite her; he genuinely disliked being an assistant. A sense of relief washed over her, and she began to help Chu Tian think of alternatives. She glanced at the busy employees outside and suddenly suggested, "Why don’t you work in operations? Help me connect with the fans, manage the accounts, that sort of thing."
Chu Tian followed her gaze to the bustling staff outside and quickly shook his head. He knew his own capabilities; with his personality, he really couldn’t handle that kind of work.
"No, I can’t do that."
"Then be my music director. You’re good at that, aren’t you?"
Chu Tian was tempted but still felt some hesitation. He didn’t seem to like this option much either.
"Then tell me what you want to do. Anyway, don’t even think about resigning. You can pick any position you want in this studio."
