CHAPTER 1262: CHAPTER 1189: THE STUDENT SURPASSES THE TEACHER
"Master!"
As Jiang Yuan enters, he hears someone inside shout "Ahh!"
Following the sound, he sees Wei Shikan standing proudly in the middle of the office with his neatly pressed uniform, looking like he’s ready to face anyone or anything.
"Here so early?" Jiang Yuan is a bit surprised. When Wei Shikan was in Lanyue City, he had a reputation for straightening up the workplace. After joining Jiang Yuan’s Accumulated Case Team, while he rarely arrived late or left early, he still tended to do so and often refused to work overtime.
Wei Shikan, with his head held high like a rooster, voiced his opinion in a tone reminiscent of an irritated hen: "Master, you all usually work overnight, so why isn’t there a single person here today? Are they targeting me?"
Wei Shikan glanced sideways at Wang Chuanxing and others.
Wang Chuanxing, whose dark circles had just faded to brown, looked like a discolored giant panda. Gazing at Wei Shikan, he sighed: "Brother Wei, we stayed up late these past few days to solve a case. Didn’t we solve it yesterday? The case has been handed over, and there’s no follow-up needed. So we can take a break and rest this morning, right? After completing such a big case, none of us should be here."
"But you all still came?"
"We came with Captain Jiang."
"Are you plotting with Master against me?"
"Brother Wei..." Wang Chuanxing looked at Wei Shikan with helplessness and said, "No one’s paying attention to you, really."
"You’re getting more and more assertive," Wei Shikan frowned, still a bit skeptical, "I want to learn the secret techniques from Master, you guys aren’t too jealous, are you?"
Wang Chuanxing almost burst into laughter, merely waved his hand: "Go ahead, learn quietly."
Jiang Yuan’s group also wore smiles.
Shen Yaowei kindly said: "Shi Kan, the skills you want to learn, Captain Jiang never hides them. If we haven’t learned them, it’s not because we can’t — it’s mainly because we couldn’t."
"I don’t believe it, where in the world is there a skill that can’t be learned?" Wei Shikan retorted, shrugging his shoulders. "Even missile developers wouldn’t be left without successors. If Sherlock Holmes offered specialized courses and published a couple of journals on basic deduction, it would’ve been figured out long ago."
"Go ahead and learn," Shen Yaowei didn’t argue with Wei Shikan and went back to his desk to make tea, waiting to see Wei Shikan’s antics.
Wei Shikan ignored the others and eagerly looked at Jiang Yuan.
"Just a moment, I need to sign some paperwork." That’s the main reason Jiang Yuan was here. Though the case was solved, there was still a lot of work left, like transferring dossiers and evidence, which required his signature.
Of course, most of the work belonged to Huang Qiangmin and Wang Chuanxing.
Wei Shikan waited beside him understandingly, like finding his dad in the office and first waiting for him to finish reviewing today’s files and sign off before talking.
Meanwhile, Wei Shikan brewed a pot of hand-brewed coffee.
"Alright," Jiang Yuan said, taking a sip of coffee, and turned to ask, "How much do you know about Image Investigation?"
"I don’t know about it," Wei Shikan shook his head.
"Hmm..." Jiang Yuan thought, if he knew, he wouldn’t call "Master" so casually. Then he said: "What level do you want to reach?"
"Like your level?" Wei Shikan tentatively asked, then added, "I’m not interested in fingerprint forensic stuff, just this, focusing on it. If I can surpass the master, that would be great."
"Well... let’s start with an exam paper." Jiang Yuan finished, whispering to Wang Chuanxing.
Having heard, Wang Chuanxing smiled knowingly like a little panda.
Soon, Wang Chuanxing utilized his advanced PPT skills online to find an appropriate exam paper, picked one with a poor rating, printed it out, and handed it to Wei Shikan saying, "Your Linear Algebra."
"Linear what?" Wei Shikan was too surprised to believe he heard correctly.
Suppressing a smile, Wang Chuanxing said: "Linear Algebra."
"What kangaroo?"
"Linear Algebra."
Wei Shikan received the paper with a puzzled face, opened it, and his expression gradually turned humble. He asked Jiang Yuan, "Master, I just want to learn skills, not become a study genius."
"You want to surpass the master, naturally you start from theory," Jiang Yuan reassured him.
"Master!" Wei Shikan, sounding like a beaten Tibetan Macaque from Mount Emei, hurriedly said: "I was just thinking out loud. Actually, if I could achieve your level or eighty percent of it, I’d be content."
"Same, still need to start from the basics." Jiang Yuan wasn’t lying. Regarding Jiang Yuan’s current Image Investigation skills, it’s a blend of the highest Level 6, alongside several Level 3 to Level 5 techniques. For Wei Shikan to aim for eighty percent of Jiang Yuan’s Image Investigation, he needs at least to reach Level 5.
If it were other skills, well... but for Image Investigation, reaching Level 5 means inevitably learning mathematics.
Wei Shikan gritted his teeth: "Even fifty percent will do."
"The same!" Jiang Yuan replied.
"How about thirty percent? Thirty percent should be enough, right?"
Jiang Yuan waved his hand: "No need to bargain, if you want to learn Image Investigation, start from mathematics."
Wei Shikan’s expression hardened yet remained fragile.
Yu Wenshu heard Jiang Yuan arrived, immediately ended his meeting, and hurried over.
Huang Qiangmin was the first to greet him.
"Chief Yu," Huang Qiangmin bowed.
"Huang," Yu Wenshu firmly grasped Huang Qiangmin’s hand: "I’m glad you haven’t left; I just have a case..."
"It’s not necessary to involve Jiang Yuan in ordinary cases. Save the resources for big cases, then approach Jiang Yuan," Huang Qiangmin strongly advised Yu Wenshu.
Yu Wenshu shook his head and said: "Not a small case."
Saying this, Yu Wenshu directly approached Jiang Yuan and said, "A company warehouse was robbed, losing a large batch of copper bars. Also missing were three large barrels of gram-fluorine, a highly toxic chemical also known as rat gram-fluorine. This stuff needs to be found quickly, as it could be used for poisoning, which would be disastrous."
Following closely, Huang Qiangmin heard Yu Wenshu’s words, remaining silent as he quietly pulled out his phone to understand the situation.
The loss of highly toxic chemicals is a troubling matter; a seemingly theft but can quickly turn into an undesirable serious event.
Of course, in most cases, stolen chemicals are sold for profit, but what the buyers do with it is uncertain.
With Huang Qiangmin’s experience, such cases are often required to be solved swiftly, presenting immense pressure for any Criminal Police team. Even for a theft case, solving within one or two or even three days isn’t easy.
Moreover, compared to murder cases, thieves generally possess higher professional skills, making investigations without tracing habitual offenders not easy.
Yu Wenshu took advantage of Jiang Yuan being available, wasting no time and directly looking at him.
Wang Chuanxing had been seconded from the Changyang City Criminal Police Detachment, and Yu Wenshu desperately needed to recoup costs.
