CHAPTER 212: READY

"Mrs. Hughes asked me to fetch you and the other husbands."

Zaque blinked, his eyes wide in surprise and disbelief as he stared at the hazel eyed woman before him, looking awkward and bashful.

He was busy preparing the dough that he will bake tomorrow morning and have it put aside when a knock echoed throughout the room, making him pause from cleaning the dining table.

Heiren and Alhai were busy doing whatever they were doing inside their room so Zaque was the only one on the first floor.

He wasn’t expecting anyone to visit the house, but Coco would occasionally drop by to give him something so with that thought in mind, he rushed towards the front door with an excited smile on his face.

He expected Coco to be standing on the other side, but his smile fell when he saw an unfamiliar woman.

"Who are you?" Zaque asked, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion as he took in her appearance, his eyes shifting from her head to her toe until his gaze stopped in her uniquely large chest.

He frowned, his eyes glancing down on his chest.

She would not mind if mine is not as big as this woman’s, right..? Zaque thought, shuffling awkwardly on his spot as he looked away from his chest.

Zaque cleared his throat and focused his attention on the unnamed woman.

"My name is Ruby." The woman introduced herself with a nervous smile as she turned her gaze away from the mediator, feeling intimidated at the way he squinted his eyes at her.

"How did you know my wife?" Zaque asked again with a smile, the tone he used was neutral, but the smile on his face was cold.

"Mrs. Hughes is a regular at the inn, she has been staying there for the past few weeks so I tend to accommodate her needs whenever I’m on duty." Ruby was quick to introduce herself further, not wanting to create a misunderstanding between Coco and her husbands.

Zaque stared at her, not speaking for a moment and kept a smile on his face.

"I see." He hummed out and tightened his grip on the doorknob as he did his best to seem friendly with her, "Did she ask for us to go there herself? What time? Do we have to go right now?"

"Well.. She.. Uh, she didn’t give a specific time so I don’t really know, but she’s waiting at the pub with Quizen." Ruby stammered out, fidgeting with the sleeve of her robe.

"I understand." Zaque said and cocked his head to the side, "We will be there. I’ll just have to call for the other two. You can go ahead and tell my wife that we will head over as soon as we’re done preparing ourselves."

Ruby nodded her head eagerly and stepped back. "Please don’t keep her waiting for too long.."

Zaque hummed to himself as he watched the woman turn in her heels and run away from him, her form slowly getting smaller as she got farther away from him until she disappeared from his sight altogether.

"Coco wants us to go to the pub.. I’ll take this chance to talk to her about letting me go with her to the main city." Zaque mumbled under his breath as he closed the door, making a beeline to the staircase and ascending immediately to go the nearest room.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

"Heiren!" Zaque called out and knocked on the second husband’s bedroom door, "Coco wants us down to the pub! Get yourself ready!"

"What?!" Came a muffled response came from the other side of the door, followed by the sound of something heavy falling on the floor with a loud thump, then right after that sound, a hiss can be heard.

"Whatever you’re doing, pause it and get yourself presentable! We will leave at ten!" Zaque warned as he knocked on the door twice before he moved to the other side of the hall— his knuckles connecting on the wood almost immediately.

"Alhai!" Zaque slammed his fists against the door, "Whether you like it or not, get dressed and make yourself presentable! Our wife wants us to go to the pub!"

"I don’t want to go!" Alhai’s response was immediate and was followed by a loud bang against the door.

Zaque flinched and his eyes widened, his gaze dropping to the floor where he could see a shadow seeping through the gap and he could tell that Alhai threw something at the door after yelling that he don’t want to go.

"I’ll come back after ten minutes!" Zaque ignored what Alhai said, raising his voice slightly as he walked away from Alhai’s door.

Alhai made it pretty clear that he doesn’t want to believe all the words Coco had said to them, but Heiren and Zaque made it also clear that unless Coco divorced them, they will have to act decently around her.

However, ’decent’ and ’around Coco’ in one sentence made Alhai scoff.

Zaque rubbed the back of his neck as he released a sigh, opening the door to his bedroom and stepping inside, his eyes landing on his worn out closet.

He had recently received a couple of new clothes from Coco, but didn’t have any occasion in mind that would make him use those expensive looking clothes so with Coco asking him to go to the pub, makes him think that it would be a date.

A date with Coco Coison is not something he will easily slip by his grasp!

The mediator finished getting dressed in under ten minutes, his usually careless appearance transformed into something different entirely.

His clothes were well-fitted and neat, the fabric hugging his frame in a way that emphasized his toned body.

He looked pleased with his appearance, the transformation from his usual disheveled look to this neat and somehow well-groomed appearance leaving him looking like a completely different person.

"I’m ready." Zaque breathed out, giving himself one final look in the mirror before exiting his room.
