CHAPTER 217: UNMISTAKABLE TENSION [2]

"Can I get three glasses of lemon juice? With six sandwiches? You can pick what kind of sandwich, I don’t mind." Coco said to the man behind the pub’s counter.

The said man nodded his head and turned to the aisle where the kitchen was on the other side.

Coco watched the man silently as he said to the staff inside the kitchen what she ordered, smiling to herself while keeping her gaze at them.

She had barely escaped the table in the guise of ordering something for the two husbands to nibble on while waiting for Zaque and Quizen, and had heard words of protest from Heiren and Alhai.

They told her that she didn’t have to order anything else, but she was adamant on getting away from the table.

She may have put up a front saying that she’s fine with Alhai being open about his animosity, but deep down, she feels completely uncomfortable to be on the receiving end of such an intense anger.

"That nerve of that man to keep glaring at you! Does he want me to grow cactuses on his bed?! I think he’s asking for it by how much he glared at you!"

The fact that a certain garden fairy had been huffing and puffing on her head doesn’t help either.

I wonder if they don’t get tired from constantly being mad.. Just thinking about it makes me tired. Coco thought, letting a sigh through her nose as she slid her bottom on the stool, waiting for her order to be done.

"I don’t know how you can smile like that when he keeps sending you bad looks! I would have made him choke on fruits the moment he looked at me like I did something wrong." Lala huffed out, flying in front of Coco’s face and crossed her arms.

Coco could only force out a laugh, nervously waiting for her order to be done.

"Here’s the juice and the sandwiches, Mrs. Hughes."

Fortunately, the man came back with a wooden tray where the sandwiches and the glasses of lemon juice were placed, getting balanced effortlessly.

"Thank you." Coco brightened up significantly and beamed at him, "I’m so sorry for the trouble, but do you mind going back to the table with me? I don’t think I’ll be able to balance the tray as well as you."

The man shook his head and flashed her a smile, the kind that businesswomen or businessmen use to attract possible customers, and gestured towards her with his free hand.

"Of course, Mrs. Hughes. Please lead me to your table." The man said, rounding the counter in a fast and poised manner, the wooden tray in his hand was completely still and balanced as he did so.

Coco didn’t comment on how the man knew who she was because she could already guess.

People know her name because Coco Hughes was infamous for her temperamental attitude, her misdeeds and garbage of a manner made people’s desire to keep quiet and talk about something else get thrown out of the village.

So, of course, the man trailing behind her is no exception.

"I’m back." Coco announced her arrival as she approached the table, a small forced smile on her face.

She flashed Alhai a smile, stepping towards Heiren to give the man some space so he could put the glasses of lemon juice and sandwiches on the table.

"There are two egg sandwiches, two ham and egg sandwiches, and two ham sandwiches." The man informed everyone around the table, "Mr. En decided to give Mrs. Hughes the remaining ham when he learned that it was her who ordered the sandwich."

Coco blinked and she smiled softly. "My, my.. The chef must have loved the quality of the monster I bought back today."

The man merely nodded his head to agree with her statement and stepped back from the table with the wooden tray clutched between his ribs and his right arm.

Coco discreetly bought out four gold coins from her personal bank and handed it to the man. "Here, give one coin to En and split the three gold coins evenly among the remaining staff."

"Coco?!" Heiren exclaimed, his eyes wide in surprise at the action of his wife.

Coco ignored his outburst and pushed the man away from the table, being careful not to use too much strength. "Go and tell them that I appreciate them so much for taking care of my breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday."

"But they were just doing their job—"

"Anyway, that’s all! Good luck!" Coco quickly gave the man one final gentle push and cut him off, waving her hand dismissively as she rushed back to the table.

Once she reached the table, she could already sense the tense and awkward atmosphere between the second and the third husband, the two of them simultaneously snapping their heads in her direction.

"Jeez! Look at him glaring at you again!" The garden fairy didn’t miss a second to call out Alhai.

Coco forced a laugh and scrambled on her feet to get back to her chair, not giving the mediators a look to not raise any unwanted musings from them.

However, even if she didn’t want to, Alhai wouldn’t let her have the peace she desperately wanted.

"You must have a lot of money saved up to just give away a couple of gold coins without much thought, huh?" The silver haired mediator taunted her with a scrutinizing gaze.

"Well.. I wanted to show them that I appreciate them." Coco said, telling them the truth instead of lying.

"Whatever." Surprisingly, Alhai backed down and reached out for the sandwiches instead, picking up a random sandwich and taking a sniff before taking a bite on it.

Coco visibly relaxed when she saw that, a sigh of relief escaping her lips.

Thankfully, it didn’t take long for Zaque and Quizen to arrive, her eyes catching a glimpse of the two of them in the entryway of the pub.

Her eyes lit up.
