New World with Four Husbands
Chapter 319: Skills?
CHAPTER 319: SKILLS?
"Anyway, since the rabbit is already asleep.. It’s time to check out the skills I got from the quests I finished a while ago." Coco announced, laying on top of the monster.
Quizen paused what he was doing, his hand stopping in the middle of spreading the strawberry jam on a piece of bread, and turned to Coco, his eyebrows raising to his hairline as he stared at her.
Skills? The question can be read from his expression alone, making it clear to Coco that he doesn’t have any clue of what she was talking about.
In a sense, yes— he doesn’t have any idea what it was, but it won’t hurt to let him know, right?
Well, at least that’s what Quizen believes.
"Here." Quizen said, continuing to spread the strawberry jam all over the bread before he handed it to Coco, "Make sure that your stomach has something to digest before you do.. Whatever you just said."
Coco turned away from the rabbit’s sleeping face, her focus momentarily disrupted as she accepted the sandwich from Quizen.
"Thanks." She murmured, her voice soft and tinged with gratitude, then she took a small bite out of the sandwich, enjoying the delicious combination of bread and strawberry jam.
The sweetness filling her mouth helped to ease her nerves, preparing her for whatever skills she was about to use.
Quizen observed Coco as she took a few bites out of the sandwich, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips, then after a moment, he diverted his attention back to the task at hand, carefully adding another spoonful of strawberry jam to a new slice of bread.
Quizen’s hands were methodical and precise, his focus now divided between the sleeping rabbit, Coco, and the preparation of the simple snack.
Coco continued munching on the sandwich, her gaze fixed on the space in front of her.
As she ate, she began to focus her mind, her fingers moving in a subtle circular motion and soon, a translucent scroll materialized in front of her, suspended in mid-air.
The scroll was slightly transparent, its surface glowing with a faint, silvery light— slowly, the scroll became more solid and now has its usual color, brown with a few tug on the edges of the parchment as if it was a few decades old.
Coco continued to munch on the sandwich, her demeanor now more focused as she began skimming through the contents of the scroll’s skill menu.
A quill floated out from nothing and landed in Coco’s free hand, and with it, she encircled a specific skill on the scroll.
The scroll’s writing instantly changed, the words rearranging themselves to form the description of the skill she had encircled.
[ Fool’s Gold:
Fool’s Gold is an ability that allows the user to turn any object or substance that they consider "useless" into gold.
This ability can be incredibly powerful, as the user’s perception of an object’s usefulness can be highly subjective.
The user may find a common stone useful, while considering a valuable gem to be useless, resulting in the gem being turned into gold instead.
Additionally, the gold created through this ability is of the highest quality and can be used for various practical purposes. ]
Coco slowly stopped chewing as she stared at the skill’s description, a frown appearing in her face.
Coco’s mind was racing, confused by the skill’s description.
"Fool’s gold?" She muttered, completely forgetting about the sandwich. "But I can only turn useless items into gold?"
She knew that the word ’useless’ was a subjective term, and to her, nothing was truly useless because every object had some value or potential use.
Coco grumbled, shaking her head in frustration with her eyebrows furrowing.
"I can’t think of anything that I will call useless.." She mumbled under her breath as she stared at the scroll. "Maybe stones? Papers? Twigs?"
She found it difficult to conceive of any item that held no value because even the stones at the sidewalk can be useful for her— getting chased by a maniac? Just throw it over and want to distract someone? Just throw it over.
Nothing is useless for her.
"What kind of skill is this?" She wondered aloud, confused and a bit annoyed by the pointless skill.
However, Coco’s face brightened as an idea hit her.
"Then.. Can I turn monster carcasses into gold? Is that allowed?" She asked, her eyes wide with excitement and curiosity.
The thought of turning monster remains that are useless into gold was a good idea and it would also provide her with a means to not feel bad about disposing of them!
Twack!
Coco was caught off guard as another scroll appeared out of nowhere and smacked her on the head.
The sudden impact made her yelp in surprise, her head snapping backwards from the unexpected hit, and causing her to wince in pain, rubbing the top of her head.
The second scroll hovered in the air and Coco hissed at the scroll that had just smacked her, her expression turning into a glare, before it promptly unrolled itself, revealing a message from Lulu.
[ Any living being can’t be turned into gold. ]
Coco read the message with a growing sense of disappointment, her cheeks puffing out as she finished.
The words on the scroll made it clear that Lulu had shot down her idea, that she couldn’t turn the carcasses into gold and that was enough for her to get upset.
Frustration crept in, Coco’s expression was a cross between irritation as she accepted the fact that her incredible idea wouldn’t work.
Coco huffed, her irritation growing, and crossed her arms, the feeling of the unfinished sandwich in her hand calming her down a little.
"It was a good idea, you know?" She protested aloud, her voice full of defiance, "I can earn more money that way."
However, her words were followed by another smack from the scroll, causing her to yelp again in pain.
It seemed the scroll was not amused with her argument.
